It's Official

"Empty Me" is the #1 most added song at Christian AC Radio for the week (well, tied for first with a group called 33 Miles)! Radio stations are excited about the song and from what I have heard recently from radio guys it seems to be testing well (i.e., if a song "tests" well, then a radio station will continue to play beyond the 6-8 week test period).

Anyway, being tied for first and having double digit AC adds is a huge step in the right direction!

This is all incredibly exciting!

I am so excited and happy for you. I bought it off of itunes and have added it to my ringtones, so whenever someone calls me..everyone around me hears your song. Lucky for me I have a program that lets me put it on my phone....Again..This is the most amazing news and I am so excited for you. It really is an amazing song.

Go, Chris! It's your birthday! : )

And I am now taking donations for the CD's I just purchased this weekend for the youth group. LOL!

Seriously, I'm very excited I get to share your music with the kids, cause I think it's just what they need to be hearing. And autographed at that! Perfect!

Again, kudos!! I hate to say we told you so (but we told you so!)

Awesome news! Congrats, Chris!

I have been trying to see if the song has played on WMUZ in Detroit, but their music programs are usually on during times when I can't listen, so I get most of my music listening from satellite radio. I asked my mom, who listens to WMUZ 8-10 hours a day, if she had heard it. She said the name sounded familiar. I played it for her on my ipod and she said she's heard it at least a couple times already. Also, she thinks it's a beautiful song. :)

If you want to follow the iTunes/Amazon stats, read mjsbigblog.com. They post weekly download and radio airplay statistics gathered from various sources.
Again,radioandrecords.com also posts weekly stats.
Use yes.com to find out if a particular radio station is playing the song.

Here are a couple of interesting articles:

I made my reservations at the Residence Inn a couple of weeks ago and they said theFro Patro Picnic rates were sold out.

Anonymous said...

SOLD OUT?????!!!!!
We JUST got our tax refund and I was JUST ready to look into the cost of everything and start figuring out how much this was gonna cost us and making reservations etc!
Waaa! Waaa! Waaa!
I'm really upset. I'd better go listen to Empty Me a few more times to calm down.

HstryQT said...

Guys don't freak out about the Residence Inn Picnic Rates - I'll let Risa know. Im pretty sure there's something we can do if I recall our contract correctly. So sit tight.

risalea said...

I am almost certain that there are still rooms available in the block. I have a call in to our hotel contact person right now. I know that two weeks ago all the booked rooms were available, so if they told you they were gone at that point, that was incorrect.

We are thinking it's something with the 1-800 number, as Carmen just checked it and it took her to Courtyard. (but it is what they sent us...we doublechecked it.) Our blocked rooms are at the Marriott Residence Inn. Courtyard is close by, but we don't have a block there. Again, I'll post as soon as I get a reply from our contact.

I do want to remind everyone, though, that our block is a limited number. Once they are gone, we have no guarantee of getting more. It is a holiday weekend. That is why we are encouraging everyone to make your plans early.

But thanks for letting us know so we can get this straight. I'll post more with I have clarification! Risa

Carrie said...

As of now, I can't go, so I hope that if I CAN, the rooms are available around June before the sale is over. I need to come up with 12grand so my dog can go to a neurologist. That or put her down, and I don't want to kill my dog so... We're all just going to not eat for awhile. I don't know if I should set up a fundraiser or what. I hate to be personal but right now, our family has about $1000 to our name. We had $2000, but had to pay for the dog recently. It's really hard and it kills me because I want to go to the picnic SO bad. But right now it just isn't in the cards for me. Blah. I'm applying to a ton of more jobs but even then I can't just go flying out to Nashville. I need to help pay for my dog and food and all of this stuff.

I'm not giving up yet, just more focused on my dog and my family right now.

Thanks Lori and Risa for the news on the hotel. I've been away from home since the moment I posted and haven't been able to check around about the matter. I'll await your clarification.

Carrie,
I'm SO sorry you are having to go thru these trials w/your dog and getting proper care for him. I've been there before myself and it was an agonizing time. Wish I could alleviate the burdens for you in some way. My heart and prayers go out to you, sweetie.

Anonymous said...

Tonight's show didn't set well w/me at all. It is clearly David Archuleta's contest to win. I said the same thing as Badpacifist, he took a song I DETEST and made me love it. This kid is GREAT but I don't feel any connection to him like other idol favorites of mine down through the years. I'm trying to decide if I am interested enough in the other 19 and the order they are voted off, to continue to watch to the end.

This is such a bummer for me compared to the last 3 seasons. I guess all good things must come to an end sometime.

Carrie said...

It's okay, I know stuff happens for a reason. We bought little doggie diapers for my dog and she's wearing them because she keeps having accidents. I guess in a way I like to share the crap I go through so that if anyone else ever has a hard time, they know that we've all been there at one point. But I prayed for my dog not to die and that we wouldn't have to put her down when she was in the hospital -- and she's home now! Not 100% but someday I'll win the lotto or something.

TOMORROW IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!

I'm going to a hockey game. Buffalo Sabres, represent! And it's against Nashville Predators. Ironic haha. But we're gonna KICK THEIR BUTTS, sorry to say! :p

I am going to a great concert this Friday at Murray Hill Theatre. Murray Hill is where a big majority of Christian Bands perform here in Jacksonville. It is a really cool place. It is an old movie theater that has been turned into a club. What is nice is that there is no smoking or drinking. So for me it has a great atmosphere. Anyway, the bands that will be playing are

Story Side B
Braeside
Fairgreen
Boys Of Summer

I absolutely love Story Side B. All of these bands have myspace sites so check them out. The bands are rock/indie/ pop

I have a question about the autographed CD's that you can preorder through the link at the official site. Is this the only place where autographed copies will be available? I'm not very computer savvy and I don't like ordering things online unless it's from a site that my hubby has checked the security. I'd actually prefer to buy it in a brick and mortar store (Family Christian Store, perhaps,) when it's released, but, those copies will not be signed, will they?

Hey all,
Just read the announcement that Idol has permission to use the Lennon/McCarney songbook now.
Too bad that didn't happen for last season. I'm SO disenchanted with the current bunch. Would have LOVED to hear Chris doing Beatles in competition. His Hey Jude on tour was amazing!!!

I hope they save this theme for somewhere in the top 12 after some of the less talented have been weeded out. We'll see.

Cathy Storms said...

Rosalee~Thank you so much for the link. It was so cute when Chris was talking to his mom. I wish I could of heard what she was saying. Great interview....

risalea said...

Yea! Caught the webcam highlights from WBFJ and it just proves one thing: Moms are EVERYWHERE! LOL I got tickled when you called her "Mammy"...that's what my daughter calls me on occasion.

And, just got some information on the downloads. Though it is available from Amazon, as far as the numbers go for Chris, it's best to get it from iTunes. So send out those myspace bulletins, email your friends, get on the horn, and let's push Chris's download numbers up, up, up! Risa

p.s. some more info on radio requests: it is ok to request or ask about a song AFTER you have heard it played on a station. It's just not kosher to request it before you've heard it. So keep your ears open to your local station for "Empty Me" and then let them know you want to hear it again!

Hey All!

I had a very positive experience the other day with my local Christian radio station. The morning DJ is a super big American Idol fan. I emailed her and told her how much I enjoyed her show and that I liked American Idol too. I explained to her that I had never watched the show until last year when my sister told me that there was this guy on there who looked like my oldest son. I explained to her that my son looked like Chris Sligh. That my son and I had had the opportunity to meet Chris and that Chris was such a great guy. I then mentioned to her that Chris had a new song out and knowing how mcuh she loved American Idol that she might want to listen to it. I
gave her Chris’s myspace web address. Then I included a photo of my son with Chris.
I was very careful not to request that she play Chris’s new song since he told us not to. I just suggested that she listen to it.
Well, she emailed me back and said Wow! she couldn’t believe how much my son looked like Chris. Then she said that she had checked out Chris’s new song and loved it.
I emailed her back and told her that I was glad that she liked Chris’s song and explained that my son doesn’t look like Chris anymore since he cut all his off. I told her that my son did this because he is leaving in a week to go work as a missionary.
You can imagine my shock when on my way to work I hear Chris’s song playing and after it is over she tells all the listeners about how she has gotten this email from me and how much my son looks like Chris and how my son is now leaving to be a missionary. I just about had a wreck on the road!! Then she went on to say how much she liked Chris's new song.
The best part about all of this is now the radio station has played Chris’s song several times and folks are actually calling in to request it. Now if they could only get Chris to come to the radio station for an interview!

Be sure and ask for the FRO PATRO PICNIC rate and make sure you are asking for the RESIDENCE INN/NASHVILLE/BRENTWOOD. It's $100/night plus tax. That rate is available to us from July 3-7.

She couldn't really tell me what the problem was before. She did give me a different toll-free number which we will add to the info sites:
1-800-331-3131. This is a worldwide reservation number for Residence Inn, so again, make sure you specify the location, dates, and the group name.

Hope there are no more snafus! Once again, remember, we have a limited block, it's a holiday weekend, so reserve as early as possible.

Well I feel better. Don't know who I could"share" my opinion with that would make any impact. I'm not voting for anyone as I'm not thrilled with any of the contestants. I'm a Survivor fan so I didn't even watch at all last night.

Hey guys,
If you haven't voted at "20 The Countdown Magazine", please do so.
This may be the end of the week that "Empty Me" is featured in "This Week's Jon's Future Favorites".

http://www.20thecountdownmagazine.com/

Also, please vote on "Empty Me" over at Yes.com. Once it is added to a new radio station, it's position on that station's charts seems to improve dramatically over first few days. You must log in to vote. Just search on "Chris Sligh" and then click on his name. A list of stations that have recently played his song will be displayed. Vote "Yes" and then hit "Enter". I think that your vote will be applied to the most recent station (bottom) on the list.

Check out the Movie "Once". It has touched many people. It is available on DVD now. The story is about a brokenhearted "busker" street musician in Dublin who meets a girl and makes a CD. It won best song at the Oscars and Best Foreign Film at the spirit awards for independent film making.
You can search you tube for the names Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová. When Colin Farrell introduced them he was a little verklempt and even cynical Jon Stewart was a little emotional after they won. He even brought Marketa back out after the commercial break because her thank you's was cut off by the music. Can't remember seeing that before.

Rosalee,

Thanks for posting about yes.com, I've been wondering how I'm supposed to do it. I've been starting by going to Chris' page and clicking yes, then clicking on the most recent play by my local station, and clicking yes, also adding with the yes comment, "Chris Sligh" in order to make sure it gets applied to the right song. Yes.com's "help" wasn't very helpful about how exactly you were supposed to do it.

rosalee said...

Emilyboo -
Yes.com does not seem to be a very user-friendly site. I emailed them several times and got some answers, but not all, so I'm still guessing as to how the votes are applied. If you click on your own name (after you've left a vote), on the right it will show you your votes. I hope they are all being counted....

risalea said...

Well, I guess hitting enter on the yes site makes the difference. I kept hitting yes and nothing happened and then when I hit enter, I had voted yes a bunch of times! Oh well, you know where I stand! LOL Thanks, Rosalee...off to vote a few more times on the other site.

risalea said...

I actually saw that acceptance speech...quite humble and inspiring. I will check out that movie.

How's everyone doing today? I'm so busy lately. Just checking in to see what's up. :)

Cathy Storms said...

Risa~I did the same thing. So everyone will know how much I love "Empty Me"...

Carrie said...

I have NO idea what I'm doing on yes.com or if it even makes a difference but I accidently spammed it with YESes. Haha.

Is this basically a list of what time a station has played his song?

rosalee said...

Carrie -

Yes. If you search by artist name it gives you back a list of stations that played that artist's songs and the time the song was played. If you search by station call letters, it displays a list of songs played by time for that station.

The most recent song played is at the bottom of the list. I think that your vote is applied to that last item on the list and only counts once for that item, no matter how many times you vote on it. If another item appears below it later, I think that you can vote on it, as long as it's the last (most recent) item on the list. I'm just guessing, but that's how it appears to work. Again, if you click on your own name after you have voted, you will see all of the stations/songs you have voted on on the right side of the screen.

Voting itself is a two step process. After logging on, first hit the "Yes" button. Then hit the Enter key to record the vote.

Carrie said...

Chris Sligh - Empty Me
Chart Position: 34

So this is good, yes? :) I don't really know what that means if it's on certain stations, just yes.com or what. I don't see him on the Top 100 of itunes for Christian/Gospel YET, but under Amazon for that category he's #80 which is pretty good so far.

Wow I'm a little slow. NOW I get the site better. When you click a certain one it tells you what position the song is on THAT station. So for KDUV it's #19, WHXL is #37. The best is WRXT at # 15. :)

rosalee,

I'm so glad you mentioned that the vote gets applied to the last item on the list, and thanks for mentioning clicking on your own name! (At first I was trying to click on my name on the left hand side of the screen and nothing happened, but finally I figured out you have to click on your name in the chat area. Oops.) I realized that every time I tried voting for Chris on my local station, I ended up voting for someone else, since he has never been the last one on the list when I've checked in. I had thought if I highlighted empty me before putting in my yes vote, it would be applied properly. Not so. OK, I think I get it now. Unfortunately, I never seem to be around when WMUZ plays it, so I guess they're not getting my votes.

I checked WDCX on yes.com and I guess they aren't playing "Empty Me" at all. So I'm going through the Buffalo stations to see if anyone is, but haven't found anything yet.

I did a lot of YESing last night because I couldn't sleep. I guess, what I got out of reading the site, is that the more stations we vote yes on when the song plays, the more likely it is to go higher up on that radios chart. So if you see one that is in the 100s or lower on the chart, the idea is to get as many people as possible to catch that before the next one shows up and vote it a yes.

rosalee said...

Yes - the chart position refers to a specific station. The longer Empty Me has been playing on a station, and the more frequently it gets played by that station, the faster it's chart position seems to rise. It seems like when the song is first introduced it's chart position is in the 165-285 range. After a few days of exposure, it often rises to the 15th-45th position.
It is unclear as to how much impact the yes.com votes have on each radio station's charts.

so did anyone go to LA today to see Chris on Idol Extra? I would've been there in a heart beat, but I don't have a car :( that's why I decided to spread the word to the blog: I was hoping someone would be able to go and represent!

rosalee said...

Cathy Storms (seestorms) is going. Niques Nana may be going, too.

Take a look at this morning's Mediabase Charts on MJ's. "Empty Me" has risen from position 105 to 44!

Woo hoo - that's a huge jump!!

I tell ya what, I'm so glad there's lots of Chris Sligh news goin' on right now because I would be going CRAZY without it. Teddy will be here any day now and I am one anxious pregnant lady. Can these days go by any faster? Because that'd be nice. I want my little man here! :)

For anyone interested as far as "20 the Countdown Magazine" goes, you may want to look at their FAQ to find out how they determine the Top 20 songs each week:

We got to see Chris!!Niques Nana and I made the 2 hour trip to Burbank and got to see Chris. It was amazing. He was awesome. Carrie, I wish I would of known, you could of gone with us...
We got there really early so we were the 1st ones in the venue. Very small, held about 60 people so it was like a private concert.
Chris was AWESOME!!!He sang "In A Moment".We got our Chris hug which made our day. We got to hang out all day with Ashley (the crying girl from last season) and her mom so that was cool.
Anyway I'm so glad we made the trip even if we didn't get home till midnight and I had to get up at 4am to come to work tody. Worth all of it. Again, Chris, you rocked the house!!!!

I almost forgot...Don't ever let Chris tell you that he can't dance. The boy can move!!! He came out between tapings and danced on the stage with Haley and Gina. The boy can dance!!!
It was really cool.....

Carianne, I wish you would have said something earlier about needing transportaton to go see Chris at AI Extra. We would have made arrangements to pick you up.

It was an awesome show. All the time spent waiting and then sitting through the show was well worth the big "bear hug" Cathy and I got from Chris.

What is really awesome, is that Chris is the only idol that came out into the audience and hugged his fans (me and Cathy).

And yes, the boy can dance!

Cathy & Niques Nana -

I left you guys a message on the fansite front page to leave your stories in the forums, too.
Who else was there, and what did they do?

According to my info, the show is scheduled to air on Apr 24th, but this is only tentative and subject to change.

Cathy Storms said...

Will do Rosalee...

Cathy and Nique's Nana, what a thrill!! glad you had a good time.

Lori, hang in there, and thanks for all your amazing work on the picnic planning. Flights are looking too steep for me at the moment, and I didn't realize it's a 10-hour drive, but I'm not ruling anything out.

Carrie said...

Haha well I couldn't REALLY have gone because I'm in NY, but knowing so many past idols were there I wish I had been able to go. It would have been cool. I'm glad you all had fun, though!

Cathy Storms said...

Sorry, I meant Carrianne..Thats what happens when you only get 4 hours sleep....

Rosalee, performances by Melinda Doolittle. She sang her new single, My Funny Valentine (I think that's the title. She perfomed it twice. Bo Bice (season 4) he perfomed his song twice, Lakisha Jones (she was nervous), Haley Scarnato, Gina Glocksen, LaToya London (season 3), Sanjaya Malakar and Blake Lewis. Blake was the last perfomer and he perfomed his song three times!

By the time Blake came on we were so tired and just wanted to go home. It was killing us when he wasn't satisfied with his performance and insisted on repeating it not once but twice.

BTW - we did tell you that we got to meet the "crying girl" from last seasons idol? Her name is Ashley, she is 14 and yes she did cry. Cathy gave her a big hug.

DJ in AL said...

GirlyGirl you gotta find a way to come to the picnic-it won't be the same without you!

Figure it out girl!

Thanks, DJ, that's so nice of you!

So Nique and Cathy, does this air on April 24? can you tell me what Sanjaya sang, and was Ashley there in general or to do her schtick with Sanjaya? The mileage that young lady is getting out of this is amazing.

Nique's Nana said...

GirlyGirl - sorry, I don't remember what Sanjaya sang, maybe Cathy does.

Crying girl was there in general. Not sure if the camera captured her "crying" when Sanjaya came out.

When we were waiting in line, some of the idols were driving in and out and Ashley would burst out crying. It was too funny to see. I always thought it was put on, but she's for real.

Nique's Nana said...

GirlyGirl, oops, I forgot to mention info on the American Idol Extra show. I'm not sure about the April 24 date. You can go to their website, http://www.foxreality.com/show.php?id=3530, and check for it.

Nique, thanks for responding, and thanks for the link!
