Coupla Things

A couple of things...

1) I found out from my radio guy that calling and requesting the song is actually a bad idea. Stations actually do not appreciate it. They have their ways of deciding if a song will be played...so thank you for those who have been calling, but it is unneeded. Just so you know, it looks like (fingers crossed) "Empty Me" is the #1 added song this week (we'll know Monday) and from what I understand it may be enough to actually put us on the charts first week out of the box, which is UNHEARD of for a new artist. Everyone thinks this single is a big one.

2) I got the master today. All 13 songs sequenced exactly as you will hear it in a little over 2 months. It sounds incredible. 13 songs for your listening pleasure. I am pumped, people. Brown and crew knocked this album out of the park. People are comparing it to some of my favorite records of all time and one key person who's been in the industry for 15 years said it may be the best debut album he's heard in his career. Wow. I'm humbled and blown away. Obviously I love the record, but it's always worrisome to finally let other people hear the album. Thankfully, it seems my instincts on this one were not wrong!

I can't wait for you guys to hear this album. Let's make history!

I know I said last time that when people flood radio stations with a request for a song, they get pissed and then won't play it. I don't really request songs on the radio and just know that if they're good, they'll be played. And yours will!

I can't wait for this CD!

Chris,
You started my day with great fun (KLOVE interview) and now you've ended it with great news!

All my best to you for a great future in the music industry. No one deserves it more.

I'm pulling for the #1 add status and DYING to get my hands on the CD.

*Woo hoo!!* What fantastic news! I'm so excited for you, I can't form a coherent thought. So I won't try :)

Chris,
I know that you are going to achieve all those dreams and then some. Get ready to put those sunglasses on!!!

I have already pre-order enough of your CD's for all my students. (I am sure glad that I don't have as many students as Risa has kids in her youth group at church!!) My students and I listened to part of your interview on KSBJ Friday morning. Of course they wanted to know if we could go on a field trip if you do an interview in Jacksonville. They are very excited about your new CD. May seems like forever to them. I can't wait either!

Sounds great, Chris! Congratulations!

Hey, I believe in doing my part! (just don't tell Gaylon! LOL)

That is interesting about the advice to not request a song. I'd have to say that's a new one on me, but I'm sure you're getting good advice.

When it's great, it's great. Hey, we'll take part of the credit for being your focus group while you were in the creative process. : )

Now aren't you glad we've got this fantastic picnic party planned for July to celebrate?!

Happy weekend, all! Risa

Yay!!

I only emailed my radio station once a few weeks ago asking them to play Empty Me when it became available. I'll be sure not to do so again. I haven't heard you there yet (WMUZ in Detroit,) but I may have just missed it, as I listen more often to Spirit on Sirius (haven't heard it there yet either, but I'm sure it won't be long!)

I think it's weird that radio stations, who make their money by attracting listeners, would choose to thumbs their noses if those same valued listeners request a specific song! Nuts to them!

I only listen in my car, which makes calling and requesting a song not a smart thing to do.

Of course, WLFJ welcomes song requests, but they weren't on the KLOVE list. I hope to here "Empty Me" on WLFJ real soon!! I know they will play a song by our former local!!!

This is awesome news. May seems like forever away though...I can't wait to get your new CD. I am so excited for you. As Carmen said, "you better get your sunglasses out".

OK - I've amended my fansite news items. No more radio requesting.

I hope that all of these positive murmurings behind the scenes turn into a very public explosion of good press very shortly.

I forgot to say, have fun in the big D today! I hope you get a chance to take in some of the sites as you travel around to the various stations and start on your tour. Love Dallas, but watch out for crazy drivers...if Sarah is with you, make sure she gets to Sam Moon on Harry Hines Blvd. I haven't been there in several years, but they used to have great deals on fashion jewelry (translation: not the real thing) and accessories, such as purses, etc. OK, back to the real world of Sat. chores! I heard snippets of 20 Countdown Magazine w/Jon Rivers this morning. Empty Me was played as Jon's Future Favorites. For last week (2-18) at the coundown magazine website was SCC's "Cinderella" and there is a place to vote whether you love it, think it's OK or hate it. I'm assuming on Monday (2-25)Empty Me will be in same spot.
So...I'll keep a watch and let you all know when it's up and we can flood the voting system with LOVE IT votes!

it seems strange to me that the radio people said not to request it. Granted I don't listen to Christian radio stations all that much (I find myself doing so more these days LOL), but I've requested songs at other stations and they've played them for me.. Maybe it depends on the station.

AHEM AHEM CHRIS

Talk about a service industry that doesn't want to hear from their audience. I guess they still use outside services like Lee Abrams use to, maybe still does, offer to create playlist that it deems what is commerically viable to the largest possible group of people like the folks at AI selecting their contestants.

Great monoliths of centrally owned radio stations that are only responsive to the size of their listening audience and it's ability to attract advertisers with large budgets.

It appears if someone(s) doesn't think it will do well nationally, you can kiss off any hope of success in a regional markets.

Carrie~Thanks for the heads up about itunes..Bought it, listening now!!
It's a good day..

Chris~Why didn't you tell us?

Everyone...go buy it now....

Bought it! Thanks for the tip, Carrie!

I was alerted before by a comment on the fansite by a poster named Rosie. Thanks, Rosie!

Anyway a news item is up on the fansite about it.

I think in his defense, he's been pretty busy. But I'm glad I decided to randomly search iTunes earlier. I bought it right away!

I put in a review, too! I think if all of you have the time, you should review the song. It'll help people decide on if they should purchase it or not. :)

I actually sent a note to WGTS in Washington, D.C. about "Empty Me" and I actually received a nice reply indicating from the Program Director saying that he had received the song, listened to it, and thought it was pretty good. He didn't commit to adding it to the playlist, but on the other hand it didn't seem as if the e-mail had a negative impact - he did seem to appreciate the note. I bet a single e-mail, to the station you normally listen to, wouldn't be too bad a thing, as long as the station didn't get bombarded by too many e-mails so that it started to look like 'spam'.

Anyway, my best to "Empty Me". I hope it gets the play it deserves.

By the way, if you want to follow who is playing the song, there is a website called 'www.yes.com' which allows you to see what is being played on many of the stations around the nation. I'm looking forward to the 'chris sligh' channel popping up there soon.

rosalee said...

BTW, the single is also available on Amazon.com.

risalea said...

Thsnks for letting us know that, Rosalee...just downloaded from Amazon and posted a comment! AH, as Lori said, no longer at the mercy of myspace! : )

Next...figuring out how to put it on my BB!

Risa

p.s. Chris....hope you are DVRing the Memphis/Tennessee game...it looks to be a good one!

Chris, Loved the KLove interview. I couldn't wait to get home and get "Empty Me" from Amazon. You are incredibly talented and I admire you for sharing your God given talent with the rest of us. Thank you. Many blessings, Rebecca

Anyway, hope you are basking in the rays of your future, and dude get some cool shades!

Sending you nothing but love from DJ in AL!

Hey Carrie, thanks for the heads up on Empty Me available on iTunes. I just bought it. I thought I had check last week for it and didn't see it.

Would have thought our boy Chris would have mentioned it. Or did he and we missed it?

Carrie, I think many of us can understand how you feel about your pet. I know the last weeks have been difficult.

Rosalee put up a link on the fansite about a TVGuide show that Chris will be on tonight. You can flip back and forth between the Oscars.

Carrie,

That's what we are here for, ask away, particularly when you need prayers.

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time, but I promise things are bound to get better.

Hang in there kiddo!

Chris, you have so much to be proud of!
I've heard similar admonishments against song requests, but I wonder if there's a difference between urban areas and small towns, and between mainstream and Christian stations? I would think the annoyance factor would be an issue for urban/mainstream and possibly urban/christian, but perhaps the culture is different in small towns?
I got a kick out of your interview on Sanjaya's Where Are They Now show on TV Guide Channel last night. Loved the shots of you in your studio.

Unknown said...

Carrie, I'm sorry about your dog. I will be thinking of you. People and their pets have such a unique relationship. You give a pet a loving environment, and the pet gives you unconditional love.

Anonymous said...

Girlygirl,
I saw Sanjaya's show too. Have to agree on the laugh-o-meter. When the hair designer wanted to straighten Chris' hair! I'm SO glad he didn't let him do that!
It's nice to know they still have SOME say over themselves on that show. They may do a LOT of things, but they may NOT straighten his hair!

And Carrie, I *do* hope your dog can regain health and there is no tumor. Keep us posted. I am praying. Stay strong.

Unknown said...

Hi, Slim. Yeah, I chuckled too at Chris's steadfastness with the stylist, but Chris might want to try it sometime just for his own grins (look what it did for Sanjaya, lol, but I guess there ain't no Patro' without the Fro, eh Chris??) I thought Sanjaya did a good job with this show---I was proud of him.
