Tour Update 1

Well, 2 Wild Wing Shows down.

And it's going great!  Wild Wings was a perfect choice to start off my official touring.  It's a low-pressure venue (you show up whenever you want), they LOVE the cover songs we have in the set, the audience is there to just have fun, and it gives the band time to settle into being tighter in front of an audience that is eating and drinking, etc. as much as they are listening.  It's kind of like having a dress rehearsal with an audience that actually kind of cares!

We actually have played 2 really good shows, too!  The band is really, really tight already and, outside of not being able to hear really well, we're listening to each other, playing off each other and just playing great.

Here's how the set list works:

The band goes up and does "Summer of '69" which morphs into "Arise".  From there we go to "Love Is Raining Down" into "Pleased".  Then "Cry Tonight" & "In a Moment" followed by the Killer's "All These Things That I've Done" (which is great as everyone sings the bridge - "I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier!").  I then introduce Jason Walker as my special guest.  He does 3 songs with bass & drums and then one song alone with the piano.  Then the band comes back up and we do Bryan Adams' "When You Love Someone" which segues into my Compassion International presentation (for $32 a month you can literally change a child's life - more on that in later posts).  Then we go to break.

We take a 15-20 minute break then head back up.  In most shows, I do a 2-song acoustic set and tell some stories (it hasn't worked at Wild Wings yet...but in church shows, we'll do the acoustic set).  Then the band comes back up and we do "Eleanor Rigby" straight into "Loaded Gun" (we do the full band version).  We then go into "City of Blinding Lights" (by U2) and that goes into "Potential".  We finish up that set with "Empty Me" which morphs into "40" (by U2), which ends that set on a very very meditative note.

We leave the stage and hopefully people cheer.  Loud.  Once they do, we head back out and we perform a surprise song (which I won't give away here).  And we end the night with "Let You Know".

So, I can't wait to see all of you at a show!  Now you know what to expect.  Listen to the songs, learn then, learn every word and then sing along with me (and quickly realize how many words I get wrong!)

To Chris Sligh,
From GDA,

"Listen to the songs, learn then, learn every word and then sing along with me (and quickly realize how many words I get wrong!)" and hope Simon isn't in the audience.

"outside of not being able to hear really well"?

I hope "it's going great" means logisticly things are running relatively smoothly as well as your enjoying yourself.

So if I never get to go to a show I will cry because this sounds like SO MUCH fun. I'm so glad it's going great so far!!

Hey, folks! Hello, from sunny CA! We had a good flight out (albeit LONG-LR to Chicago to San Diego!) We're headed to Azusa to my niece's graduation this afternoon, then going to LA/Hollywood on Sunday just to say we did and no doubt, eat at the Cheesecake Factory. We may do Disneyland on Monday....we're all big kids at heart. LOL Between our schedule and Cathy's, we haven't gotten together yet, but we definitely will before we leave on Tues. afternoon. Chris, the concert sounds fabulous, and I can't wait to hear Carmen's report since she and her husband are catching you at Wild Wing. Take care and have fun!!! Risa

I heard that you met my stepson, Ken at the first Wild Wings show. He said you were excellent! He gave me the story on the whole downtown scene that night.

Kudos to you, Chris for your support of Compassion International. I began sponsoring a little girl through CI about 6 years ago and it has been a wonderful experience. One gets back SO much more than you give. Her letters just MAKE my day (my whole month!) I followed you with GREAT support when you were on AI and just went on line to see if you were appearing where I might catch up with you. I can't seem to find your schedule. But I HAD to write when I saw your support of Compassion International. Congratulations and I wish you much success with your career. Ellie in South Florida

Hey all!
Wow is all I can say about the show last night. Chris was fantastic. This makes concert 13 for me and I would say by far it was the best. I loved the way Chris & Jason's voices compliment each other. It was amazing. The band was very tight last night and the crowd seemed to be enjoying the songs. When Chris sang In A Moment quite a few couples got up and danced. Loaded Gun also got a few people off their feet. Folks were singing along to the songs that they knew and all and all it was just a lot of fun.

My family had a great time and it was so good to catch up with Jane & her husband.

I am not going to let the cat out of the bag on what the surprise song is. Ya'll just go to the concert if you can. You won't be disappointed.

Chris-- major kudos dude. You are just getting better & better. I really love the way that Jason is part of the show. Ya'll are very good together. Thanks for a super evening!

See you in Zellwood!

Wow! Sounds like such a great show!
I'll have to try and see if there's one I can drive to!!!!

Chris, do you think you'll add any other cities to the tour? If you think you might, please consider some thing in NC!!! there's a great place in Cary (near Raleigh)at the Regency Park. It's an outside venue on a lake called the Koka Booth Ampitheathre...they have all kinds of great stuff there all the time....check it out:
http://www.boothamphitheatre.com/index.html

sure wish you would come there or somewhere else near here sometime, we LOVE you here in NC!!!!! Really, its a very beautiful & peaceful setting and the sound is great! my fiance plays here sometimes with a couple different brass bands he is in and I have gone there to hear orchestra concerts and also this past summer to hear Chicago. It's a 'kick back' kinda place...very comfortable and awesome...just like you!!!

Anyway I'm still gonna try to make it to the picnic even if I can't get to a concert yet!!

Chris, Good to see you partnering with Compassion. How many children do you sponsor? Where do they live? Which Compassion projects have you visited? Please share. How many children have been sponsored at your venues? Are you giving away CDs with sponsor sign-ups...
