Rehearsals II

So rehearsals have been doing great. As we speak, I'm sitting in one of my friend's room with another of our friends watching Saving Private Ryan. Giovanni Ribisi's character just got killed. Such a great movie. There's a moral dilemma over whether to kill the German who killed Ribisi's character. Hmmm. Good stuff.

So, rehearsals are great. We're starting to get all the music down, now we're all just working on memorizing lyrics. I was lucky to have gotten to do several songs that I knew pretty well, so the lyrics have come pretty easy. So, I've been able to take time to work on stuff.

I recently purchased Pro Tools to record demos on tour. I've used Logic in the past, so it was a tough choice to move over to Pro Tools, but it was a necessity...it's the industry standard and everyone I work with uses it, so my demos needed to be on that platform. But I know very little about Pro Tools, so I've had to learn all the tricks to get stuff going. One of my friends has been a Pro Tools user for a while, so he's been helping me learn some stuff, but I bought a Pro Tools book and have watched the instructional DVD a couple of times. Basically, though, I've progressed enough to do the basics of recording.

So, today, we ran through the whole set, and it's a mighty fine set, by the way. In between the several songs that I get to be a part of, I set up Pro Tools in a little room and worked on several song ideas that I've had swimming around my head. It's great to be able to lay down ideas. I'm writing songs for several other contestants now, so that's kind of cool. I'll be juggling the tour with writing for me and writing for several other people. Who knows what songs will get used on poeple's albums, but I'm kind of honored to be able to write for other people.

Plus, I just got the biggest offer of my life a couple of days ago. Again, I can't go into details but it would includedoing somthing that will be a HUGE honor and it will be a great chance to raise my profile a little bit in the entertainment business. I don't know yet if I would take it because it would mean that I would have to put off my recording career for a little bit. So, it'll be a pretty tough choice. We'll see what happens. More on that later.

Anyway, the opening number is coming together quite well. It's crazy and stupid, but it get's the show started in a great, great way, and once again it is something never ever done on the AI tour, from what the tour producer says. So, that's pretty cool. It's one of the only group numbers that involves the whole group of 10. There are quite a few "group numbers" that involve a few of the contestants but this is one of the only ones that involves all 10.

The guy's number is being worked on all day tomorrow. We've got to work on what exactly we're doing, but as I said before, it's something that has never been done on the tour, so a couple of firsts this time out.

Finally, me and the two friends I'm hanging out with tonight are working on a new number that will possibly be added to the show. If it works out, it could be pure genius. In a very, very funny way. I think it could be really, really cool.

Anyway, more about the tour, etc. in a little bit.

Thanks for hanging out and sticking around, through all the stuff the last couple of days.

Peace and love.

You were up late, and I'm up way too early for a summer morning. (having to chauffeur my 16 yr. old to his summer job, thanks to his engine blowing up in his truck...a story for another day! LOL)

I love that you'll be writing not only for you, but for others. That's a gift that will give you longevity in the music business. A performer that I admire so much is Dolly Parton. I'm a country fan as well, so love to hear her sing, but her song writing talent is phenomenal. Wouldn't that be great to hear one of your songs covered as much as her "And I'll Always Love You" (and collect those royalties!)

The show sounds like so much fun. You'll have to let us know if the number you're working on makes it in,and give us a hint so we can be watching for it when we go.

Have a great day of rehearsals. Risa R.

Hey Chris is there any filming going on in while you rehearse that might be used as teasers once the tour gets started? Will you guys be on a bus or flying most of the tour?

ProTools totally intimidates me. I want to get into radio and my college switched over to ProTools the year before I graduated...I only had a chance to tinker around with it and I had no clue what I was doing, haha. Good job to you, though, for getting the basics down so quickly!

Also, I love popping over to your blog to get all these tour tidbits. It's making me really excited...which is a little unfortunate since I won't be seeing you guys until September!

Good luck with rehearsals!

Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us. It is great to hear how your budding music career is unfolding and about your AI friendships. I understand why you aren't naming names now, but based on your past blogs, I can imagine who you are talking about.

You and your fellow Idols are in my prayers

Can't wait for that special number your doing with your friends. I hope those friends are Phil or CAKE!!!

Please, please don't get into a Cake duet, would you? People love to see those two together alone and that is the appeal.

Thanks for all the insight on the tour Chris. We really appreciate it.

You say that quite a few contestants will be dueting? Thats pretty cool. I hope Blake and Jordin duet, they sound fantastic together.

Sounds like the tour is coming together. Congrats on whatever offer you got. I know you will make the best choice for you.
You really should of come over to the fox studios last night for the taping of Nissan Live Sets with Kelly Clarkson & her whole band. (strings & all) It was awesome. My daughter & were in the front row & could almost touch them. I finally got Kelly's autograph. She is so cute. The bass player actually came off the stage after the recording just to give me his autograph & a big hug. Okay, I am star struck.

You know just how to kill a girl who has to wait 'til September for the tour to *finally* get to Atlanta, dontcha? hehe... I'm glad that you're having such a good experience and I'm excited that you're having enough down-time to be able to write some songs.

Many prayers and mad love to you and your wife!

Hello Chris, the information you've shared so far (or rather in limited disclosure) is really making me want to watch you guys perform so bad, but the sad thing is, I live in Singapore which makes it impossible to ever come up north to attend one of the tour dates. Seems like you've got a fan from down in Asia, isn't that cool?

Hopefully someday, if not one day, you and your band might come down here to perform and I'll be the first to get tickets. Big fan of yours (and Phil's), Natalie.

Hello Chris. I stumbled across your blog and have enjoyed reading past posts. Thank you so much for giving us peons a glimse into your celebu-world.:o) I wish you all the best things for your future - from one natural curly-head to another. I'll be in Tacoma on July 27th. Can't wait to see all of you! From a PTAMommy in Bothell, WA (guess you know who I was rooting for!)

When I first tried my hand at Pro Tools in college, in a studio, it was pretty intimidating. But once you get the hang of it, it's self explanitory. I think you will be a master of it. You seem like you're well versed with a computer, which comes with the Pro Tools territory.

Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the tour, and your own album! I'm pretty excited about the show, do each of you get to perform the same amount of individual numbers?

Congrats on the offer, can't wait to see/hear what it is. You deserve nothing but the best! You work hard and it will pay off eventually.

All the best,
Michelle

Aha!! now we're getting somewhere (your 11:27 response). Your hints are getting better, Mr. Sligh. I'm thrilled that you're doing a duet with Gina.
Another great blog entry, Chris. I will enjoy pondering what your big offer might be. Congratulations on the offer, and your wisdom will guide you to the best decision.

It's fantastic to hear that your creative energy is driving you to so many opportunities--GO Chris!

Have fun in rehearsals, and keep your eyes peeled for Bill Vendall--I just miss the little jerk, and I'm convinced he's around somewhere.

Oh look: my word to verify starts out cyaked--must be all that Cake talk.

Oh Sligh... You are such a tease. You must know exactly just what "chaos" you have created for the Cake fans by that one teaser eh? But I am not telling you to stop. :) No pressure, of course.

Anyway, glad to hear that you have been offered something. Hope that you can come to a good conclusion after thinking it through that will benefit your career!

And I see there are other Singapore fans here too. :) Is there any chance that the Idol Tour would come here, like it did in S3?

Ok seriously I just screamed, im so excited. 2 duets that i wanted more then anything, Cake, YAY. You and Gina was another that i wanted, the 2 people that got voted off way to early. Only 22 days till yall are in Nashville. I cant wait to see what yall have going on, in the begining of the show, you have us all stumped.

Chris i know your a man of God, so im asking for prayers, i have to make a desicion to either stay on my chemo pills or to get a bone marrow transplant, it could be life or death, but i just need prayers that i can make the decision God wants me to.

Anonymous said...

Can you reveal any more of the duets?

OMG! Duet with Gina? I might fricken die!! And cake duet also? Seriously Im not going to be able to wait until July!! GAAH im so excited! Please tell me you also have a duet with Phil?

Anonymous said...

Thanks for this preview! You and Gina have two of my favorite voices of all, so a duet between you is going to be a highlight.

And Cake section? So much fun! Drumming/beatboxing, maybe? Can't wait to see.

Congrats on getting a cool offer!

It seems like your personalities will really shine throughout the performances, with your references to things being "funny" "crazy and stupid." Sounds like it'll be a great time! I'm excited! (Can you tell?)

Ha, random but - my cat just sneezed. It's always funny when a small animals sneezes. Hope your puppies are doing ok without you back at home, by the way!

Wait..maybe I want to be surprised. I know you and Gina are going to rock the house.
It's so cool that you are writing music for some of the others. What an honor. Yesterday at the Kelly taping she mentioned how much pressure is on you guys. I can only imagine.

Anonymous said...

That's pretty cool that Chris and Blake are doing a "Cake" thing, but whats with the word "section" that makes it sound like more than one song or something. That doesn't seem like its very fair to the rest of you.

I cant wait to see you guys on tour! First three dates!! :)

Anonymous said...

*trying to read Chris' mind about the offer*

Okay.....gotcha...with your sense of humor, you'd be a natural, a very entertaining Host commentator on a show.....are you sure you can't do both--the album and the job? I mean, it's not like you are just a plain ole human with a wife and a life...what are you talking about...lol.....j/k

I really, really want some more music, but if you decide to detour for a while, well then, I know you have to do your thing and we Fans will just have to wait.....but please, Chris....don't make us wait too long...we love your voice!

Have fun with your friends and write your heart out.

what exactly do you mean by section? I really hope Blake gets a lot of time (which he should being the runner up) so they're whole set isn't together right? And the boys group number has already been spoiled by one of the members of the top 10 who did well and likes robin thicke as a full band so any more details on that?

Hahaa, Celebrity Fit Club...no, that's not what I've been offered, but I'd probably do it if it was offered to me...from what I understand, the celebrity is able to work out the show while working ther career, so that would be cool. But apparently I'm not really a celebrity. Lol.

Sorry, a needed edit...but we know it's out there all over, anyway.

I second Rose's comment. There are so many things never done before, so it is pointless just saying we are doing something different. I wish more people got it...just have fun, people. If you take it too seriously, then you're missing the point of these blogs. The tour is going to be fun for me and my friends. I want for my fans to have fun with it, too. RIght now, I personally don't feel comfortable sharing certain things...so, we'll have fun doing it like this till then.

From what I've read you and Chris Rich are the songwriters on the show. Have you written for Chris and vise versa? Do you enjoy writing songs or performing more? And one last question, does Chris Rich cry as much or more than what was shown on the show? Are you a sensitive soul like him?

Laura, Blake told us the boys are going to play instruments; Melinda and Sanjaya told us who they are going to duet with during interview.

And Chris, what's the point of editing your teasers since they are out there anyways? Is this some kind of game I don't get or you are not allowed by TPTB to give away teasers? I am not pissed at all. I just feel it is more or less, pointless.

Peace and Love!

OK, after perusing the guesses on your career offer, I'm thinking....an "E" entertainment reporter or maybe along the same line for the TV Guide channel? You bantered easily with those guys when you were on the red carpet, etc. so I can see you doing that.

Deb, I'm sorry you feel I've been ignoring you. No longer. Hello.

As far as the offer...well, I can tell you what it is NOT. It is nothing with E channel, or anything to do with hosting on a tv show; neither is it Price is Right (I thought Rosie was the new Barker?). However, both of those are actually really good guesses. I'll put it this way...it's something that most people would never think I would do. In fact, I'm still not sure that it is something I want to do, but I'm weighing the pros and cons. It involves music, though, I'll tell you that. Now, guess away.

And have fun with it...let's just have fun being stupid and funny...throw out your wildest guesses on the opening number and my job offer. This is a place for friends to hang out, so have fun with it.

I'll say this, though: I won't deny that someone got the guy's number right.

Peace and love,

Your job offer: I'm sticking with Head Donkey Wrangler. It would be so awesome and cool.

Oh, my gosh, they're bringing back American Bandstand and you're going to be taking on the Dick Clark spot!!! No, wait, that's like hosting and you said it wasn't that.

Maybe we are all thinking along the wrong train of thought. Maybe you've gotten an offer from a record company to write material for other artists? Someone wants you to manage their music career? You've got a chance to get into the production end for a music outfit? I don't know squat about the music industry, so I'm just making wild guesses here.
HMMMMMM...... Risa R.

p.s. I love that you said this is a place for friends to hang out. It does feel like we know one another when we see the same people post over and over, and it feels like we know you, even though it's only a cyber connection. And I think that's why it's so aggravating to see the trolls' posts. It feels like someone's broken into a friendly family gathering.

Anonymous said...

hmmmmm my guess is this: it has something to do with working for American Idol? Not hosting the show, but doing something for it musically behind the scenes somehow. My second guess would be singing on some cruiseship. But while that could be fun, I sure as hell do not see that as "an honor".

If you're w/ your "friends" why are you BLOGGING?

You're replacing Lucky as the spokesman for Lucky Charms!

I've never posted anywhere, ever before, but I've been reading your blog since your audition on American Idol. I've spent many an hour reading and, I embarassed to admit, on blog-less days re-reading the various entries. I can emphasize with one of the other entries that talked about the Chris Sligh 12-step program during your vacation.

So here's may thoughts on the biggest opportunity-
perhaps a Broadway show or maybe a rock opera? In my mind I could visualize your song, Gone, being sung on stage.

"As far as the offer...well, I can tell you what it is NOT.

This is a place for friends to hang out, so have fun with it."

Ohhhh.....ohhhhh....I know, I know, Chris...

Is it a Broadway or off-Broadway play?

And before some wise guy says it, NOOOOO, I'm not thinking of the play about Hair! LOL We love Chris' hair.....

Hi, Risa and yeah, I agree with your p.s. in your last post.

Anonymous said...

How can ANY of you call him rude after the crap you're all spewing out here? Hypocrites.

Anonymous said...

Nice to see ya gain those cojones back :)

My guess (and someone else mentioned it) is that you've been offered a role in a musical theatre show. It COULD be on Broadway, or off.

At the top of my head, I'd guess the role of Shrek in the upcoming Broadway adaptation, which fits you (they were looking for someone with strong "rock" vocals), but for some reason I doubt they'd cast someone with no experience in that role. But I can't think of any upcoming shows you'd be good in.

As far as replacements in Broadway shows...You're not right for any of the characters in Rent or Chicago. Spamalot doesn't suit you. Brian on Avenue Q? Edna on Hairspray? (ha!) Spring Awakening has a fat guy...

Oh, I have it now! You're going to be one the Claymates in the upcoming Idol:The Musical (That's not a joke, dude. They're REALLY doing that)

Peace.

ChrisSligh said...

I wish I didn't need to make it painfully obvious but so many of you are leaving comments that I feel I have a need to explain.

Raise your hand, if when you hang out at your friend's house or room, you guys spend every second enraptured with each other? I don't see a lot of hands. We spend all day every day together. Many times, if we choose to hang out, it's literally a hang out time of just relaxing, checking email, watching tv, etc. This time was no different. One of my friends was on a computer, checking email. My other friend played Gameboy while watching Saving Private Ryan. I blogged while watching SPR. We would crack jokes in between writing a sentence, or beating a world, or reading an email. Just like normal friends would do.

Just because my friends are famous in no way makes them abnormal. We just hang out. Sometimes we get into discussions, sometimes we get deep about life, sometimes we just hang and check our email. I've always kind of thought that real friends didn't have to be jabbering every minute to know that everything was okay.

And I'm sorry if anyone thought the response was rude, but sometimes what you call rude is called for. The "rudeness" was a thinly veiled reminder that it is possible to do more than one thing at once. Most people realize that. That person didn't. I was actually being kind by helping them understand.

Now, on to the important stuff. lol

You got it right! I'm going to be my friend's tour manager. I'll wash his underwear (oh, wait, he doesn't wear underwear), I'll book his flights and hotels, I'll....actually, no, that's not what I'm doing. Good idea, though. I'll talk with him and see if I can work it out. I mean, if nothing else works out. And hell freezes over. I'm not really the tour manager type. You have to be responsible to be a tour manager.

As far as Spamalot...if I was to take a role on Broadway, that would be one of the plays that would make the short list of ones I'd love to be in. But alas, that isn't the offer. Sorry. But that was an inspired guess.

Anyway, this has been fun...keep it up.

Peace and love,
Chris

ChrisSligh said...

Wow Ganil,

I'm impressed with your knowledge of Broadway. I have no idea what most of those roles are (I've never been a huge Broadway guy), but your knowledge impresses me.

I read most of the comments, with 104 got through about ¾.
I still think that people shouldn’t be asking you about Chris Rich & Blake. I think it is inconsiderate & rude. This site is suppose to center on you and your activities.

The image of the opener that developed which has no possible connection to reality is:
You all progressively cartwheel onto stage then mime a comedy sketch about building a human pyramid. There is great dissent because several of the ten have serious doubts about you being the person top but you all actually do so.
The top person changes every night and everyone at some point is the top person including you.

I haven’t the faintest notion what you present weight is but you looked good on Larry King but since then you still described yourself as being chubby.

I hope that the offer is extraordinary as I think pushing back the album will probably dissipate a significant amount of the interest generated by AI.

Replacing Simon & Paula: A self contained Ying & Yang?
Replacing only Simon: A self conflicted Ying & Yang?

If you replace Rosie O’Donnell on The View, only fit the space she left (well some of it), don’t try to be her, you’ll wind up being a lot less loveable.
You will probably more entertain than the remainder including Joy Behar who once did standup, she wasn’t funny then either,

Mike: explain tags or suggest a site.

Chris & Mike: have either of you ever seen Orson Welle’s movie “F for Fake”?
I think it may be of interest.

On Brian Eno & Phil Manzanara:
Two Roxy Music performances on the German TV show “Musikladen” in 1973.
Since you only know Brian Eno for his U2 productions you might find it interesting to see him as performer interesting, although if you blink you could miss him parodying Bryan Ferry towards the end of “Editions of You“.
Phil Manzanara one of the great guitarist.
The clothing is glitter era with makeup (Thank you Marc Bolan & David Bowie) and Eno is incredibly thin even for him with shoulder length hair.
On the first two Roxy Music albums and his first two solo albums he is simply listed as Eno

Roxy Music (basically the Bryan Ferry Band)
Bryan Ferry: all lead vocals, keyboards
Eno: Synth, Tambourine, and backing vocal
Phil Manzanara: lead guitar
Andy MacKay: saxophone, oboe, keyboards and backing vocals
Paul Thompson: drums

Thanks for responding to my comment (I was the one who suggested the tour manager). Thanks also for reitering the fact that Blake does not wear underwear as that really can never be stated enough. Since you can't tell us the offer (i'm guessing) and you can't tell us the tour details- how about doing the same thing with tour suggestions as your doing with your offers. If we guess a song people are singing you can shoot it down if it's wrong- since you can't say if it's right. Oh and I'm changing my guess to Broadway also but seriously the tour stuff is more interesting. But I guess I shouldn't admit that.

I think people expect that if you are hanging out with friends that you and they are engaged in a shared activity. Since your explaination makes it now sound as though the friends are occupying the same room, like a lounge, but are basically engaged in separate activities, which no longer sounds like you are being inconsiderate.

Thanks, Chris ;) I have friends in the industry (actors, producers, composers...) And I'm also a fan of theater in general.

Too bad I was wrong, though.

btw, I don't care for Spamalot. Holy Grail is a classic, so why mess with that? Spamalot's funny, but a complete bastardization of the classic film.

I thought of another good role for you, lol. Barfee in "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee". That's a very comedian driven show (Mo Rocca's currently in it).

Ok, ciao for now.

" I've always kind of thought that real friends didn't have to be jabbering every minute to know that everything was okay."

Wow Chris, you just described me and my friends 100% accurately!
Just yesterday my three closest friends and I put in a movie and hung out: One sent text messages, one checked email on their laptop, one beat a couple of levels on their gameboy ... We had a great time!

I truly believe that really good friends can enjoy eachothers company without spending every second talking and joking. In fact, it's one of the best things about friends: you can do whatever you want and you know they'll still like you at the end of the day. You can enjoy being together without having to do things together.

Well, I don't know if that made any sense, but the point is I understand what you're saying Chris!

ChrisSligh said...

Hey guys,

I appreciate all the concern as of late. Look, I've gone back and read my comments and I don't feel I've done anything wrong, in any way in my comments. For those of you who feel that way, I am honestly sorry, but over the last few weeks, I have realized that I'm not going to make everyone happy. Period. So, I'm going to do what I feel is right. Period. If you don't like it, please don't read the blog or the comments. There are a core group of readers that I have come to care about. Until you've gotten into that core group, I don't really care what you think.

Secondly, the friends who everyone seems to think I was with were not the friends I was with. I was with some friends. I'm not using names on purpose. Don't feel like every time I say friends you need to assume who it was, because guesses are you are wrong. I hang out with male and female friends nearly every night. We have a very tight-knit bunch. So, your guess is wrong this time and'll probably be wrong every time.

Look, it's my blog. If idiots want to take it and quote it and dissect it and cry and moan about it, then that's their perogative. I don't have to be hurt by their crap. I'm over it. So please do not email me about forums talking about me. I no longer give a flying crap.

Anyway, now that that's out of the way, we can go back to the fun stuff.

Seriously the last couple of days have been a lot of fun. There have been some hilarious suggestions. My favorite is that I'm a VP candidate...sorry, but I think you have to be 35, so unfortunately that's not it.

GDA, if the offer ends up coming to fruition, believe me, it will be worth putting off the record deal for a while...I mean, as I said, I'm still not completely sold on this idea, but it's looking better and better to me. It will just have to be right, and I'll have to have a great feeling about it.

Anyway, peeps, keep guessing and keep having fun. Don't mind the trolls...I'll try to fend them off so you don't have to see them.

Peace and love,
Chris

Hm, no Broadway, but it involves music. Oh- something no one has suggested is MTV! Will you be the newest MTV VJ and host TRL? I hope not cuz then we couldn't hear you sing as much :). I'm kind of torn because, I'll be excited for any unique and great opportunity you have, but at the same time I selfishly want you and HPF to tour soon so that I can see you in a non-Idol venue and get to meet you (finally). One article said HPF is starting "heavy touring" in September - that HAS to involve you, right??

Oh, and fans in the "core group" should know who they are; there are those that are truly fans and those that are here with other prerogatives, (to use your word). :)

That comment about forums wasn't directed at you...I receive links daily to this forum and that forum of people wanting me to see that people are trashing me. That's what I was talking about. I haven't followed a link to a forum in over a month...when I see a link, I mostly delete the comment immediately.

And to those who are newbies - when I say I don't care what you think, I do NOT mean I don't want you to comment...what I mean is that I don't care if you judge me, etc. There are people who have been a part of this blog for a few months now and I take what some people say seriously, like I would a friend...but you can't come up into a blog you've never been before and give advice on how to live...that was my whole freaking point.

Peace and love,
Chris

Chris,

Gotya, and thanks. I have been following you since the beginning so I do tend to get a little "mother bearish" towards the trolls, hope you get that.

I have sensed a new attitude from you regarding this subject so I feel much better. I've told you before and I will tell you again, your successes are the best revenge.

So, onward and upward. I hope your new gig is wonderful, little bummed about having to wait to see you in concert, but good things come to those who wait.

Dude, time for another rehearsal update. This is getting old.

Hey GDA - I already used the human pyramid idea back in the "Rehearsals have started" blog.
However, since there are 10 of them, maybe this is the opening:

The Idols align
In bowling pin formation
Let the games begin....

I wonder who in the audience gets to roll the first ball?

Or, perhaps an Idol ballet opener, complete with tutus and tights?

Now, on to the OFFER:

As I was discussing with HstryQT yesterday on the fan site, Chris would make a fantastic weatherman on a news station!:

"Tomorrow morning will be really, really cool and the sunrise will be awesome. Clouds will be imposing in the afternoon. And the weekend will be so freakin' hot! I said it would rain yesterday, but it didn't, so I apologize...."

I guess I'm beginning to sound like that other site. Let me try again:

You're going to be CeCe and BeBe Winans' roadie.

You're writing music for a children's show, or maybe you're the new Capt. Kangaroo..

You're starring in a series of commercials for Pizza Hut

You're writing commercial jingles for Pizza Hut

A new musical sitcom (Partridge Family-like or Monkees-like) is being developed and you are starring in it or creating the music for it.

You are going on tour with Taylor Hicks. Mute Math? Weird Al Yankovic?

A made for TV movie - "A Tribute to Flo & Eddie and the Turtles" is underway and you are being cast as Mark Volman (Flo):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kjnIR7KFSgg

OK - I give up. For now......

Good and thanks, DJ.

And anonymous, last time I checked this wasn't anonymous' blog. I'll post when I've got something. Thanks.

Peace and love,
Chris

Rosalee,

That was funny...it's okay to mock me on my own site...I do use those words a lot...but in my defense...wait, I probably shouldn't do that either.

Anyway, good making fun.

Peace and love,
Chris

Well I'm definitely not in the core group because everyone knows I'm totally a Blake fan. But I'll keep hanging around til I'm banned. This blog is too hilarious to ignore even while I'm at work. Hey, I can work and read a blog! That means I can multi-task! I ROCK!!! Although I don't really go online while my friends are over. But maybe I shouldn't admit that.

To sum up: blogging, trolls, donkeys. Bring it.

ChrisSligh said...

Georgia Girl,

Just so you know, you can be a Blake fan and still be part of the core group...there are several people on here who are other people's fans more than mine. It's not a competition for me. You're a Blake fan. I'm a Blake fan. We're even.

Those that are in the core group know it. You've been around for a little while, so don't be bashful.

Didn't you come up with the donkey fighting idea. Pure genius!

Chris

Hehe... don't worry about it. We n00bs understand what you meant and are 100% glad that you feel this way. 311 summed it up best, but let's quote Blake instead (safer lyrics indeed!): "Punk the naysayers 'cuz they don't mean a thing- this is what style we bring!"

n00b or not, I'm commenting. I've been lurking forever, tho! :D

Now it's time to take the kids swimming for "one hundred and ninety-nine two" hours. I guess that the littlest one wants to stay for a long time.

Have an amazing day!

Dude -

So I miss a day and look at all this stuff - some pretty funny bits - I actually envision everyone coming out on the stage in little go carts whizzing around-like a shriner's convention. Cut to Sligh doing a bongo solo, chanting some unknown language with a indian headdress - and some old lady dancing around then passing out on stage. Sligh furiously beats the bongo's, not noticing the poor lady has expired on stage. The crowd becomes hushed, and someone asks for a doctor in the house - Sligh still feaverishly beating the bongo's. The doctor arrives and tell's everyone the lady is dead, and then Sligh comes over and does a raindance over her, and miraculously she is healed - and with the crowd going crazy - Sligh takes the entire audience out for milk and cookies.
OK - so this is actually just a remixed Andy Kaufman bit - but I'm pretty sure it would be a new and entertaining way to start an AI concert. If this option isn't available - I strongly second the suggestion of group donkey fighting.

As for your potential new gig - Personal Assistant to Richard Simmons.

Peace -

Tom in ATL

(Now doing pushups - chanting: 1-2-3-4, Proud to be, in Chris's core, 1-2-3-4, Proud to be, in Chris's core....)

Chris - As part of the core group, I thank you for acknowledging me. Finally! And I hope you'll acknowledge me again on Aug.24th! (just before the show, in the parking lot)
I'm guessing that at the Long Island and New Jersey (Meadowlands)shows you will be busy rubbing elbows with many celebrities at the after-show parties (due to the arenas' close proximity to Manhattan).

I'm still guessing on the OFFER:

Becoming a dolphin trainer at SeaWorld? (You're experienced now)

Does it involve wearing a POPTART suit?

Enough for now.

My Guess is that you got a movie offer... i heard that Phil(my lovee) got 2 movie offers.. so you got one too lol... ok you will be singing in the movie, so thats where the music comes into play.. o yea i am good lol

Love ya Chris!!

The saying:
“Do try to please everyone, no one will like it”

A quote I came across:
“There is a gigantic difference between earning a great deal of money and being rich.” - Marlene Dietrich, Marlene Dietrich’s ABC

To Bmorebamma

Either I missed something or I am missing something. If you targeted a comment to me you going to need to post it again.

To Rosalee

I didn’t remember the human pyramid ideal coming up before. Do you find the setup novel?

When everyone was saying how Chris looked like Jack Osbourne, I immediately thought of Mark Volman but didn’t think enough people would have known who I was talking about.

One of the Flo & Eddie albums derives it title from the following Alexander Woollcott quote:
“It seems everything I like is either illegal, immoral or fattening”

The Turtles original were a surf and rod group named the Crossfires. They sounded much like the Beach Boys. Mark Volman then played saxophone. If they made the TV Movie Chris would have to learn to play saxophone for that era of the band.

I tend to think that Chris would probably have some misgivings about the script when the last line up of the Turtles bodily became Frank Zappa’s Mothers of Invention.

The name “The Phlorescent Leech & Eddie” was given to them by Frank Zappa because the still signed to White Whale records and Zappa/Mothers were signed to Reprise.

Turtle history - http://www.theturtles.com/turtles.html

Recent Mark Volman info - http://www.nashvillescene.com/Stories/Arts/Music/2005/12/15/The_Phlorescent_Teach/index.shtml

Incidental Zappa’s band, when first signed to Verve/MGM records in 1965, were called “the Mothers” but it dawn on someone what that actually meant and add “of Invention” for airplay and marketing purposes.

No, I didn’t read it as a joke as you have targeted posts directly to me on a couple of occasions. After going back and reading/re-reading the earlier posts I was left wondering if the reference was to a post under an earlier “topic”.
File under misfire.

Incidentally, the 11:03 PM post isn’t your usual stream of consciousness and all the spellings are spot on.

Usually, I don’t read the comments until I have written and submitted my first post but with 104 entries I thought that I better read at least some to find if what I intended to write may have already been covered.

To Chris & Rosalee

The weather report didn’t mention how incredible tomorrow was going to be.

GDA -

I just KNEW when I mentioned Mark Volman that you'd supply the background!

I think that many of the people reading this (especially our CORE GROUP), certainly know the Turtles, if not the name Mark Volman. This site attracts people of all ages. In fact many of us are, uh, "mature" (meaning we're old enough to be Chris's mom).

GDA, Are you a member of the fansite? I also submitted a photo of Mark Volman for the Sligh lookalike contest, but was disqualified because I didn't "own" the photo. Oh, well.
However, the Turtles website acknowledges the resemblance:

http://www.theturtles.com/documents/29.html

That last article, "The Phlorescent Teach" was a good one. Chris, I hope you read it - especially the part about music contract clauses...

Too bad Chris wasn't around for the Happy Together Ford commercial that the IDOLS did. I bet they had counted on him being there and the song was no accident.

As for the human pyramid, yeah, it's a variation on a theme. Just like Tom in Atl's bongo routine (I also had him playing bongos - as part of the guy group act). Another variation on a theme.

Oh, and Chris, I would never "mock" you. I parody/satirize/spoof you. I know you know that. The Sligh-mericks (limericks) on the fansite are in the same vein.
