Today (Thursday edition)

Well, today I woke up very, very early to get on a plane in L.A. to come back home. My friend Don and I had worked out him picking me up in Charlotte. Why, you might ask. Well, a couple of reasons, my children. 1) The flight from Charlotte to Greenville is in a propellor plane. 2) Chris Sligh doesn't like flying. 3) Chris Sligh certainly doesn't like flying in prop planes. 4) Unless he is dusting crops. 5) I had a 2 hour layover in Charlotte, and didn't want to wait around for 2 hours. 6) I wanted to eat Pizzeria Uno and the only one around is in Charlotte. 7) Chris Sligh doesn't like flying in prop planes.

So, Don picked me up at Charlotte airport.

We decided to go look at recording and keyboard stuff at Sam Ash in Charlotte. While there, I purchased Pro Tools and Reason, as well as a cheap microphone. This will be my demo making stuff while I am on the road with the American Idol tour.

Speaking of the American Idol tour...I don't know much yet, and what I do know I can't tell you yet. But I can't wait for you guys to find out...seriously, I think it'll be the coolest tour yet. And here's one clue to pique your interest: I will be playing guitar almost every time or every time I'm on stage during the show.

Anyway, while at Sam Ash, a bunch of people wanted their picture with me. One of the guys that worked there asked us if we were going to see Daughtry, since he was playing in Charlotte tonight. I didn't even know the band was there tonight, but I was interested. Then the dude said the show had sold out in 16 minutes, and there weren't any tickets. Now, this is where I am going to show that I am a bad person: but I decided I wanted to see how big a celebrity I was by going and seeing if I could get me and Don in for free to a sold out show.

Short answer: Yes. I am. Free tickets, baby!!

And I got to talk with Chris for about 10 minutes before the show.

Chris was pretty sick (he had to cancel a show in Tallahassee, FL recently) so I didn't bother him too long...I know how it is to meet new people when you feel like crap. Anyway, we came back for the show. And here is my short review....

Chris was definitely sick. He didn't have any of his trademark high notes. He also had pitch problems throughout, obviously because he was sick. But the band rocked the hiz-house! Wow. That band is really great. And the bass player is incredible, as is the drummer. I mean the guitar players were great, too, don't get me wrong, but the rhythm section was tight, yo.

Anyway, I can't really give the show a grade, per se, because Chris was sick, but the band really did play incredibly well.

Then Don and I headed home.

And today (Friday - I mean it is morning time 2:30 as I write) is my birthday.

So happy 29th to me.

Love you all for everything. Thanks for helping make the CD a success. Thanks for voting me to number 10. Thanks for the best year of my life. Thanks in advance for coming to see me on tour.

Chris, please dont publish this in your blog:

Holy cow! I was just about to write you and tell you next time you have to fly through Charlotte, please let me know. I figured you'd have to wait forever for a connection to GSP. I figured that 1. You'd think it was weird or awkward that a stranger was offering to pick you (and your traveling companions) up at at airport and 2. that people offer stuff all the time to you now and this is just another one of those times.

Truth is, I thought about offering to at least bring you a real meal to eat for when you come back from LA through Charlotte. Anyway, the offer stands, and if you even just need a place to hang out without being hassled while Don comes to pick you up. (or I can drive yall down or meet Don half way or whatever...) just call us!!

Way cool you got to see Chris D tonight. I saw him being attempted to be interviewed by the fox affiliate news lady.. didnt say a word. I hope he gets better soon.

Happy Birthday again!

Happy birthday, Dawg! (Can I say that on here?) Hope it was great. I saw your taping of "Ellen"; excellent job. I wish the interview had been longer and they hadn't cut to a commercial in the middle of your song, but it was great nonetheless. I had my dad listen to your album on the way to work today. After hearing 2 tracks he said, "Yeah, it was a great move voting him off the show, wasn't it?" He loved it. You've got some chops, my friend! Hope to see you live someday.

Blessings,

I am listening to in a moment right now. I maybe passing through Greenville in the near future. If I do, I will be going to Seacoast. Hope to see you there. I know you are busy and that you don't know me that well, but drop me an email anyway. We know a lot of the same people. When I heard you made AI, I called your parents in Germany. I told them that I was praying for y'all. You have a wonderful family I voted for you. I told everybody I knew to vote for you. Not that that means anything, but I did anyway. If you want to drop me an email it is brandon_hicks_cruces@yahoo.com
By the way, Happy Birthday!

Happy birthday Chris!!! I hope you have an awesome day and don't catch whatever Daughtry has!

I'm pretty excited to hear that you will be playing guitar on the idol tour! Up until now, I haven't been interested in seeing any of the idol tours because I've only liked one or two contestants each season, and with a limited entertainment budget, I like to only buy tickets for shows I'm certain I'll love. Though I'm sure there will be parts of the show I don't love, I think it may be a winner overall. I can't wait to find out more details!

I have something I should post in the Q & A, but I've been having so much trouble keeping up with the questions and replies in that post (as, I'm sure, have you,) and I'm afraid if I ask it there I'll miss seeing the answer. (Don't bother answering here if it's too much trouble though!) I was wondering if you had been a fan of the tv show Joan of Arcadia. Something you said in this post made me think you might be.

I was in a prop plane once with a youth group. We went up in two planes and the pilots kept leapfroggin' each other in the air. Totally nuts. Then the pilot let one of the twelve year olds hold the passenger controls. After a few minutes he whispered something to the kid and the kid pulled the wheel back fast. We went straight up.

AND THEN THE ENGINE STALLED.

AT 3000 Ft.

The pilot had been pretty cocky the whole trip - a real hot dog - but you never saw somebody's hands fly so nervously so fast over the controls before the engine roared back to life. We took it easy at around 1000ft for the rest of the trip. LOL

Dang, that was scary. But I'd go up again.

Bob Dole certainly wishes Chris Sligh a happy birthday. Bob Dole wants Chris Sligh to know that, when Bob Dole was Chris Sligh's age, Bob Dole already received two Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star Medal. By age 29, Bob Dole served two years in the Kansas legislature, graduated from law school, and became County Attorney.

Bob Dole doesn't like to brag, but Bob Dole was an American idol, too. And if Bob Dole had two good arms, Bob Dole would have been a damn fine guitarist.

This birthday message was approved by Bob Dole.

Sincerely,

I got that off a birthday link and when I went back and read about each one (morbid curiosity) I saw the info on the link was wrong. Oh well, in the immortal words of Chris Sligh, "my bad".

Your last paragraph made me realize you are a good person, seriously.

I hope you had a fabulous birthday!!

I'm so glad to hear that you get to have your guitar on the AI tour - It was amazing getting to hear Taylor with his harmonica last year - and I can't wait to get to see you perform live - yay!! July can't come soon enough.

To stay on topic, hope your birthday was great.

Chris, sounds like you had a great time seeing Daughtry in concert. It's too bad that Chris D. was sick, but I'm glad that you got to meet him.

I'm looking forward to the tour (that is, if it comes to Connecticut).

Happy Birthday! Hope it's a great one! You can jump in between Blake and Chris R. and yell "BIRTHDAY CAKE sandwich!" That is, if you see both of them then.

Did hearing Daughtry sing "Home" bring back bad memories of getting voted off Idol? :)

Oh, and happy belated birthday!

Chris
What I love best about this site is that it gives an inkling of who you are and what you think. I never believe anything I read in the press good or bad. I dont need you to be perfect , I just like it real. Thank you for taking the time to give ppl an idea of who you are.

Happy belated birthday!

Glad you got to see Daughtry - free! I'm such a jellus h8r! ;) Nah, I got to see them in Orlando and I totally agree about the rhythm section - I was really impressed with the skills of both the bass player and drummer.

Anyway, can't wait to see you, Blake, Melinda, and Jordin especially on tour this summer. It's gonna rock, fo sho. Especially glad you'll get to showcase your guitar skillz!

Glad you made it home safely. Prop planes are scary stuff.

I have to tell you what we did for your birthday. I took my 2 grandaughters age 6 & 3 & got them new dresses to wear to your concert. They picked them out & call them their Chris Sligh dresses....

Happy Birthday!!!

I hope that you had a great day!!!

FYI: American Idol released Typical!!! w00t.

Hey Chris, I hope you've been able to relax & play with your doggies recently since I know you won't have much time to pretty soon. They have videos up on ai.com to buy "Typical" and "Wanna Be Loved" which is awesome! I wish there were studio mp3s of your semi final performances as well but I'm thankful for the three we have. There's only about 5 weeks left til the finale, time flies.. but I can't wait to see you.

Love & Hugs,

BTW, saw switchfoot in Buies Creek, NC on the 13th and met the band. Those guys are amazing. Glad to see they are one of your influences!!

Hey, sorry you got voted off. I was a fan of the show this year really because I thought you brought a lot of talent. Now I watch hoping Sanjaya gets voted off! You have a lot of talent and I look forward to hearing the cd.

Happy Birthday Chris! I never post messages but I wanted to say to you that you were one of my favorites on AI. I voted for you every week. I love your voice and got goose bumps every time you sang. Great sense of humor and great spirituality. Stay true to yourself. Regardless of what you weigh or what you wear or what you look like. Can't wait for you to blow up!

Chris, I just want to say I was outraged that you were voted off-what does America know, anyway!!! And I just downloaded your studio arrangement of Endless Love, which I cannot get out of my head!! I prefer your's to the original arrangement!! For real! Keep your head up and hang on to that humor of your's, it'll get you thru alot! You are a unique talent and Iknow there are intelligent, talent-savvy people out there who notice and will help you along your way.

This is the first AI I've watched from the start. Imagine, a 60 yr old groupie grannie. I think you are great and have a good career ahead of you. Just don't let it go to your head....enjoy it and remember what's important in life -- family.

Just got your CD this weekend and am loving it! My favorite so far is "In a Moment" but the rest is great too.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

FIRST OF ALL....HAPPY BIRTHDAY BELATED..
I am a 63 year old Great Grandmother who enjoys most music, except rap and heavy metal. You were my absolute favorite, not just your voice but your humor and your character, to complete the package. I know you will make it big, even without AI...Don't ever stop being "CHRIS" I am going to be sure to buy and promote anything and everything with the Chris Bligh name on it.
Keep on going..

I understand you have strong faith in God...just remember God is love, and love is what this world could really use right now! Keep on keeping on! Be Blessed!

Hey Chris! My name is Emily and I voted for you hard on American Idol! I just wanted to let you know that you have an amazing voice and personality. God has truly blessed you and I can't wait to get your CD. I am so glad that you know Christ because so many people on American Idol become my favorites, such as Elliot Yamin. But then their albums come out and I hear cussing and I get so disappointed. So thank you and can't wait to hear you music! God Bless, Happy Birthday, and I will definitely be keeping up with your blog! Later!

Hey Chris

I always liked the whole freakin' package you presented on stage. I am so sure you will go far. I really hope to make it to the tour when it gets to Pittsburgh ! You rock !

Chris,
Happy Belated Birtday. I just wanted to add that I am sorry you got voted out! I really like your voice and singing style. I am a mother of children older than you and not a rocker by any means. I think you were true to your faith (whatever it is) and I was confortable with your singing. Unlike the girl who sang Gospel songs last year and got voted out. You sang what you were asked and did a great job!. Best of everything in the future, and stay true to Christ.

Well good luck in your lives adventure! Take Care and again Happy Birthday!

Hi Chris,
I just wanted to share with you that my husband and I received your CD yesterday. We love it!
We work in our yard most afternoons and we have a stero on the deck. We enjoyed your CD so much, we played it full blast while we were working in the garden getting it ready for the veggies we love to grow. So, all of the neighbors were able to listen to the music and enjoy it with us.
We play music most of the time while we are outside ..... yesterday was a real treat. Thank you so much for making our afternoon and evening special. We will definately continue to play your CD and we are looking forward to another.
As I said before in a previous blog, please continue to sing and write music. You are truly blessed with a special gift.

God Bless and Happy Belated Birthday ;)

I don't think you butchered "Endless Love". In fact that was the point in which I totally committed to be a Chris Sligh Fan.I downloaded it and now all four of my kids sing it in "Chris" version.I never liked the original much anyway, and I thought "Every little Thing" was great, too.Timing was not bad(downloaded that too)love the POlice and Sting.Been a fan of yours from the Dave Hasselhoff comment.Love ya, keep the faith.Gayla

Hi Chris-

Don't know what you are doing on April 28th but Muse is playing with My Chemical Romance at William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA. You might want to check it out - they're still selling tickets through Ticketmaster as far as I know.

Cheers!
