In Rehearsal

So, I'm in rehearsal today. We're actually on a small break as I write this. Obviously I can't tell you guys details of what's going on, but it has been awesome to get together with everyone.

I got in last night and actually got to the hotel about the same time as Phil, Richardson, Gina and Haley. So, we all got settled into our rooms, then watched the show. Melinda went home. I don't know that I would be any happier for anyone going home than the other two...but it was awesome to watch how she has handled it - she seems really okay with not having the pressure on anymore.

Phil, Richardson, Gina, Haley and I went out last night and saw Storm Large at the Viper Room (our hotel is near Sunset, so we walked a little). Then we decided to go with Richardson to a club. Well, one club turned into 4 clubs. That was interesting. I've literally never been into a club and we were at 4 of them last night. It's a very interesting scene. I doubt I will ever do it again, but it was great to get in to a bunch of places for free.

Anyway, rehearsals are going great...we're doing some really, really cool stuff that I think people are gonna dig. It's really different for me in some places and really close to what I do in others...and all of it is great! It's fun to go a little outside my comfort zone on some stuff.

All I can say is this: getting back with all of my friends has been incredible. Everyone is excited to be back and excited to see what everyone else has been up to. Blake and Jordin are doing great - Blake is still as hilarious as ever and Jordin is just awesome. Whichever of them wins - well, they both are incredibly deserving and awesome. Anyway, off that rabbit trail...it's kind of nice because with the pressure of competition off, everyone can just be themselves and hang out and have fun.

It is great to be back.

I'm sure you're so excited to be back with the old crew! ...And you get four more months with them all! How fun :)

Five days til' you're on the Idol stage again - it's like the good ole' days, counting down until we get to see you!

Can't wait can't wait! :)

Dude -

Sounds like a great experience. I know that area from some of my travels - are you guys all literally just walking down the strip? I would imagine you caused quite a stir. Probably some rubber neckers stopping traffic.

Fired up to see all the gang hit the stage next week - I lost some interest the last few weeks - but thought this week's show was great. I only started watching AI in season 4 - but there is more talent in this year's top 10 than any year I've seen before - regardless of what the critics say. I literally can see hit records for all 10.

Have a great time - and thanks for keeping us posted.

Peace -

I have to agree, Melinda really handled going home well. Did you see how excited she and Blake were for Jordin when she was safe?! They seem thrilled!

Hi, Chris, one more thing: I think I've asked a time or two about whether your band gets up this way and future plans after the tour (and now I realize you probably couldn't answer because of rapidly evolving deals and events). BUT, hearing that Elliott Yamin was kicking off his tour in "Alexandria" reminded me: if you do get up this way, try to book at the Birchmere (where he'll be). It's a great, great venue in the DC burbs with a lot of history, and it's an intimate "jazz club" setting where artists can connect with their audience. Taylor came through a couple months ago, and although I had no interest in seeing him (or Elliott), I would definitely check you out. I think Idols' pal Peter Noone is doing a show there in August. The State Theatre in Falls Church is another possibility, but the Birchmere would be a great place for both you and Sanjaya to perform. Okay, back to rehearsals--you work on those Chubby dance moves, y'hear?

Melinda going home was really a shocker. Well, AI is basically a popularity contest. And I think her fans got complacent.

I know you like Blake very much but him winning AI would be the biggest shocker. In my opinion, he's a mediocre singer but a very good beatboxer. Nothing special about his voice.

Enjoy the rehearsals.

Neat to just hear what's going on in your world at the moment. We
are all looking forward to the fruits of labor (of love naturally)and time being put in just for us -your adoring fans.

Tell Sarah we appreciate her, too -for "standing by her man" as he follows his dream and for letting us share.

What an amazing road it has been for all of you. I can't wait to see you all together again next week.

God bless.

Curious what you thought of Melinda going home...to me, it seemed more like fans of Jordin & Blake wanting to make sure their person had enough votes

Even more important than those thoughts -- how do you think the Christians have represented Christ? Should anything have been done differently? Anything future contestants shoould consider?

What could be done in the future to help Christian contestants keep & grow in the faith? You mentioned not really getting to church....what if the church came to them (i.e. an AI Chaplain)? Would that be helpful or hurtful?

Who is Storm Large and what'd y'all do?

Oh Chris, it's so good to hear from you. I'm excited about next weeks show and seeing you again. Sounds like you're having fun - good for you. I know you can't say much, but whatever you can share with us we enjoy reading about it. I get to see you perform live in San Diego on July 19th, I am so jazzed! You're in my prayers always. Stay cool, have fun, get as much rest as you can and get out there and kick some butt!

Oh, btw has anyone told you lately that we just love you to pieces?

are you ever going to do another q & a?

ChrisSligh said...

To answer some people who wondered what I thought of Melinda going home. I think this: when it comes to the top 6 especially no one is losing here. In talking to contestants who are back now and figuring out how they are doing as far as label interest, etc., across the board, everyone is doing great. No one is losing here.

When it comes to the top 3 - I mean seriously how can anyone root against any of them? They're all fantastic at what they do, in their own special ways and are "deserving" in thier own right. All 3 are artists and have worked their tails off to get to this point. I don't think any of them was any more deserving than anyone else. But the way the competition works is that only 1 person doesn't get voted off. So of 12 deserving people, 1 is left standing. So, though it was sad to see Melinda go, seriously, she's not losing here...and I'm not sure she is any more deserving than anyone else.

Also, to the person who asked - Storm Large was a contestant last summer on Rock Star:Supernova. She was third place, I think. She has a band in L.A. and they are freaking awesome. She has a CD coming out in June - plan on looking for it - it should be good.

When I went out, though I wouldn't call it clubbing since I didn't really drink and we sat in the VIP section, I did get mobbed a little bit. But I was with Rich who gets a lot of attention, so it was kind of nice to have a little peace. We hung out with Lauren Conrad and a bunch of people from the HIlls last night. They were filming upstairs at one of the clubs so we went up there. That was kind of weird.

Actually, though TMZ chased be down and took pictures as I walked into one of the clubs. That was crazy, especially since the other 4 contestants got ignored (they ran up into the club and I didn't realize till too late there were photogs there).

Anyway, it's been fun so far...more updates coming.

Hey there Chris...your spirits seem to be up a little more with this blog. Im glad to hear it! Im so happy your having fun and I can't wait to see next weeks show so I can see you on the big stage one last time! I was really shocked at Melinda going home. IMO I don't think that Blake has the vocals to even compare to Melinda, but he is a great entertainer and he's talented none the less, I just don't think he has great vocals, but it all makes for a good tv show anyway. You should be in that final two though...I'll never stop believing that! Lots of love!

Wow you're already up on the TMZ site. Crazy. Too bad they're jerks.

Interesting going clubbing as a Christian. Seems like an odd place for a Christ-follower to be.

Can't wait for the summer tour. You are all such a talented bunch who seem really nice and happy for each other's successes.

Can't wait to see the finale...all of you singing again. I've watched for a few years, but this is the first group that has really grabbed me. It's almost a shame that it's a competitive environment.

Would you ever considering hosting a musical variety show?

Storm Large!! My favorite from RockStar. I'm glad to hear she has a CD coming out. Can't wait to see you guys all perform at the finale. I had so many favorites this year that I would have been happy with a number of people winning. Can't say that about any other year.

Now, can you give us any scoop on what Lauren Conrad is up too? My hubbie and I are both addicted to The Hills. LOL.

Um...nothing I've said should indicate anger or me being upset. I'm neither. I'm merely pointing out that my actions are in no way different than what Christ would do. The only thing I did that perhaps Christ wouldn't is stay up till 3 am when I have rehearsals all day the next day.

Thank you, again, for your comments. Hopefully your conscience is now put to ease as mine is.

Peace and love,
Chris

mr. sligh geez i just love these people who ALWAYS seem to say you're a christian and you can't do this or that, for crying out loud . iam so happy that we won't have to answer to these people in the end, so your back in hollyweird huh have fun lol.

to jp pauluas as far as bening a christian ,don't think that anything specilal SHOULD be done becuse of the different backgrounds of the contestents. everyone's not christian and beating people over the heads with their faith is NOT a very good idea,so what iam trying to say in a nutshell is it's up to the indvidual on how they presue or deal with their faith while there. ( i hope that my ramblings makes sence).

Chris,

Glad to hear things are going well with rehearsal. I watch your blog regularly to keep up with what's going on. It's nice to see a fellow Christian not be ashamed of his beliefs.

I am glad to hear that you didn't drink at the clubs you went to. Two Bible passages you might want to read - I Thessalonians 5:22 and I Corinthians 8:6-13.

Storm did not make it to the final three. The final three were Lukas (eventual winner), Magni from Iceland (a magnificent singer) and the eccentric Dilana. I think Storm just placed fifth. No. 4 was Ryan from Australia.

It sounds like you're having a great time. Enjoy it!

I want to come see you on tour but can't afford the tickets at this time. I hope there will still be some available at a later date. Meanwhile I'm going to be trying to win them from the radio contests!

I agree that any of the top three were deserving of being in the finals and I wouldn't have been happy with an elimination for any of them. Yet only one can win. Oh wells.

I read that the navy has given Phil permission to go on tour! That's fantastic! Although I did hear that he's currently back at work with the navy, so does this mean that he will not be present for the finale?

So Chris, how long will you be out there. Do you get to go home before you hit the road?

I live in North Dakota and drove 6 hours to see the show last year. I am considering doing it this year. I know you cant say much but are they really doing some diffrent things this year?

Glad to see you are doing well.

Chris~it sounds like you are having so much fun. How cool...hanging out with the people from the hills...that must have been fun. Just enjoy every minute of this wonderful journey you have been given. Can't wait to see all of you guys on AI next week. Wish I could be there..If you run into Kelly Clarkson, give her a big hug for me...

Chris,

Waiting excitedly to see you on the Finale! I sense you have exorcised some "blog" demons and I am so happy for you. I love the way you are handling the blog now.

It sounds like your AI friendships are intact-that worried me some, I was worried blog comments could be interpreted the wrong way. I'm a Mother, so these are the kinds of things I worry about.

Anyway, I hope you have a blast this week and blow us away on the Finale, ya hear?

Your most devoted fan in AL!

Hey Chris, I'm glad to know you're still updating the blog. Don't get caught up with what people say, everyone who is ever on American Idol gets trashed insanely, it's nothing to get upset about. People think when they see someone's personality for about ten seconds for a few weeks, and read a few paragraphs off a blog, they think they've known the person their whole life. Anyways, I guess you could say I'm a teenybopper [I'm 14], who is all just for Richardson, but Melinda was another favorite of mine, and I was very upset when she was eliminated, I couldn't get one vote through on her phone line, but anyways, I agree, I'm glad she handled everything so classy. So, just want to basically say when you make the top 12 on American Idol, you should consider yourself a winner because you know you have some fans who will buy your music and you know your name is officially out there roaming the world. Knowing at least one person out there appreciates your work must be very refreshing and exciting. I wish you the best in your career and glad your standing your ground. God Bless.

So the Storm Large show is a recommended deal huh?

I saw the Supernova concert when they came thru the Twin Cities. They had Toby with his band, Dilana performed an accoustic set with Magni on guitar... Navarro's band played and then Rock Star Supernova capped it off.

They hadn't got very good reviews but I have to say I loved it. It was fun to see basically 4 bands perform in about 3 hours with limited time between the bands. Each band did a nice mix of original and covers. So the variety was great. Best surprise was how good Dave Navarro was live, the biggest let down was how mopey Gilby Clark got a few times when things didn't go right.

I think originally Storm was supposed to be on that same billng along with Ryan from the show, but they had to cut corners. They also had to drop the "house band" from performing. As a drummer I think Nate Morton is one of the best and I know he has toured with Idol before... I can only assume they have put together quite the collection of musicians for your tour.

You are playing the Exel here in St Paul. My company has a suite which I hope to get into. Could have gotten into season 5 but it didn't work out for us. Of course with the Police and Roger Waters this summer... the AI would make a perfect trivecta!

SQUEEEAL--YES!! section 101. And our September 9 show is Birthday Eve for Sanjaya, I’m so excited. This is shaping into quite the happening! I tried posting my ticket info on the forum a couple days ago and had trouble registering, but I'll try again. Would love to say hi to you. I guess Chris’s Mini-Me might be a bit young yet? Not sure I am worthy of Fro Patro status (do I have to say a few Hail Mary’s or something??), but I enjoy Chris’s voice and am looking forward to cheering him on and seeing what the Fro Patro scene is all about.

hi there. i just wanted to share some useless info i have (for no other reason than i'm a tv nut) since it clarifies some of the earlier responses -

storm large came in 5th. that guy ryan was 6th and he's american. magni from iceland was 4th. toby rand from AUS was 3rd. the 2nd-5th placers were originally set to go on tour, but storm and magni were later cut. then dilana pitched a pit and refused to go without magni. so he got to go but mostly to play back-up on her set.

i watch a too much tv, i know.
