Twitter

So, I've been dragged into this thing called "twitter".

Basically, it's blogging, but I can do it from my phone and you can receive a text message from me whenever I blog. Twitter's cool...you'll only get twitters from the people who you sign up to receive them from...no giving away info...very private. So, make blogging even more fun!

Go to twitter.com and sign up.

It's gonna be fun.

I think I actually have an account there. I don't remember. The site is down now, though and I'm heading to sleep. I need energy to finish uploading almost 500 pictures tomorrow haha.

It's fun in a concise 140-characters kinda way.

xHi everyone,
All this technology is making me feel old! The twitter sounds really cool, but I don't have a cell phone. I need massive computer lessons just to keep up with everything.
I can't remember if it was Carrie or Kathy who said they would say "hi" to Chris and give him a hug for me. Did you remember-I bet you were so excited you forgot! That's O.K. Maybe next year I'll get to come to the picnic and give Chris a hug myself.
I't sounds like everyone who went to the picnic had an awesome time! I was both happy and sad when I read Chris' blog and all your comments. I was happy because everyone had fun and got to meet each other. I was sad, and almost in tears because I didn't find this blog earlier and missed something incredible. I thought about you all on Sat. and wondered how things were going.
Hearing everone talk about how hard it was to say good-bye reminded me of the summers I went to the Tx. School for the Blind and had to say good-bye to my friends until the the next summer. Of course, this was before we had e-mail so we really didn't communicate during the school year. Most all of us went to public school so we went to the blind school for six weeks in the summer. Other students went there for their entire time from Kindergarten till they graduated.
So when I heard one of y'all say it hurt your heart to have to leave and go home-I know how you feel. You feel hollow when you get home.
I'll have to look at all pictures-hope I can access them since my computer is so screwed up.
Chris and Sarah, thanks for sharing your time with your fans. I think that is too cool! I hope I get to meet you one day.

Actually you got somewhat of a shoutout during the picnic because when we were doing our opening "remarks" Chris pointed out all the cool new people on the blog and he said "like amyspurplepoodles!" you were there in spirit :)

chamilton said...

With every cool thing that gets mentioned about the picnic... It makes me all the more upset that I didn't go this year and all the more ready to get there next year...

Carrie said...

Haha Lori, I was gonna say the same thing! Go Amy's Purple Poodles!

Deb in TN said...

Oh boy.....I'm gonna need an iPhone for that I think...I'm like Amy...I still have the old fashioned phone....

Amy, sorry you didn't make it to the picnic....I know it's hard to read about all the fun when you wanted to be there so badly...please don't be too sad...just think of it as a preview of what's in store for you next year...I hope I make it next year as well and get to meet you....I mean, I've never seen a purple poodle before so I know I'm in for a treat. *hug*

Hey chris I thought I would leave my email rrogers2@kc.rr.com so I can get info about the royals game August 23rd.
Thanks

chamilton said...

okay I need help. I am SOS(Stuck on Stupid) with this twitter thing I a have an account, I am not getting the updates. Rosalee or anyone can you tell me what I am doing wrong?? Thanks

Cole Phillips said...

Chris, I'm following you on Twitter. Turn your device updates on so people can respond to your tweets. Looking forward to meeting you on August 15 in Austin!

chamilton said...

I think that it is problem with my carrier Verizon after looking on the website so I will call them and see if they can work it out for me.

Carrie said...

I have verizon and I got the text updates to work. When you put your number in, don't put a + before it if you live in the US... then text the confirmation code to 40404. You won't get anything back..... then just text whatever you want to update with to 40404 and it should post it on your twitter.

chamilton said...

Thank you Carrie!!!
Worked right away. I did get a verification from 40404. I am so glad this is such a smart group... Where did DJ want you to go?

risalea said...

Ah, a new definition for "twitterpated"!

(just had to post this from my favorite Disney movie)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXBbgzQmpJw

And Carrie, I did what you said earlier via Carmen's directions, and I see this latest update online, but it didn't go to my phone. ARGH The BB is letting me down!

Carrie said...

Hahaha DJ, my friend Brenna and I kept saying "you wanna go?!" as in, you wanna fight? So really we probably wouldn't be going anywhere other than maybe jail or a hospital. It was all in fun though! Maybe. ;)

Carianne said...

does this twitter thing cost money? Anybody know?

Lori, thanks SO much for putting your picnic pictures up on Facebook! I love, love, LOVE them! It looked like you guys had a blast! Maybe next summer I will have a little bit more money...

Carianne said...

oh, and I don't know if any of you guys read Luke Menard's blog,or even know who he is, but he posted a blog and said he had a writing session with Chris yesterday (and adds a nice little Empty Me plug)!

(and if you don't know, Luke made it to the top 16 on this seasons AI. He is now fighting off cancer and working on a Christian Music career).

DJ in AL said...

Carrie,

I knew what you meant, geez, I'm not that old. I also assumed you were kidding since it would be pretty sad if someone 20 years younger decided to kick some old broad's bootie:)

Carrie said...

Haha! I was just explaining it to someone who asked, that's all. Plus I'm pretty sure you could take me.

Anonymous said...

I think it was cool that Chris did a shout out to all the new people and mentioned me. I just have the biggest smile on my face right now!
Chris is going to be in Austin in August? Too bad I can't go. My friend said (and I know from experience) that summer is the worst time to come because it is so hot and humid. I hope I can go visit her in April-she said that's the best time to go. Austin is a beautiful city. Take lots of bug spray to ward off the mosquitos!
Carrie and DJ-cat fight! cat fight! Just kidding-the hospital or jail would not be cool!
Now its time for another stupid computer question. How do you all get the orange "B" for blogger?

DJ in AL said...

Carrie,

Oh, I see that now. Sorry, reading too fast!

To be perfectly clear to everyone else....we were just kidding! I'm a little too old for that bootie kicking stuff:) And yes Carrie I could take you, all I'd have to do is sit on you!

Hischild said...

Hey,
Amy (with your purple poodles) the organge B comes up when you have a blogger account and use the Google/Blogger option under identity when you post. You can create a blog if you click "create blog" at top of Chris' mainpage blog (where we read his postings).

Chris, how is Luke Menard doing health wise? I had read about his illness and have wondered how he is. We had a friend at church who had non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and has made a complete recovery, but I think what Luke has is different.

p.s. I'm signed up and getting everything on the web, but no twitter texts to my phone.

chamilton said...

DJ,
You are too funny. I feel ya girl.. I am thrilled with getting the to appear with Chris on the IDOL FAV post but I look awful. I haven't seen your picture YET and I am sure you are a HOTTIE !!!!

rosalee said...

I've said before here that I liked Luke on American Idol. His voice is perfect for the kind of acapella singing that he does.

I posted a particular post from Luke's blog last month on purpose in the American Idol thread on ChrisSligh.com. Check the Fro Patro Message Board. In certain ways, he seemed to be going down the same road as Chris, so his current activities with Chris are not surprising to me at all.

I guess we should check his blog now for updates on his condition and his interactions with Chris.

Chris, do twitter if you want, but please continue to blog here! I don't have twitter and have no interest in joining it. I just two months ago joined the world of texting, and still barely do it.

SirMax said...

This has nothing really to do with twitter (although I am on it "sirmax70). You should check out marklee3d (yes the Mark Lee from Third Day) he is a crack up.

Anyway...I was VERY excited to see your comment on my blog. I've been listening to your cd every day since I got it (that says alot because Third Day usually has reign over my cd player!).

Take care and hope to see you in person one day! God bless!!!

Carrie said...

dgmommie, I wouldn't worry. Twitter you can only input 140 characters at a time and we know Chris writes a lot more than that. ;)

DJ in AL said...

Carrie,

Too true:)

Love your new picture, DJ! When did the brown chrissligh.com shirt become available? I've been waiting for it!

Cathy Storms said...

I remember Luke..I actually liked him. You should of brought him to the picnic...

Cathy Storms said...

You should of brought Don to the picnic also...

Carrie said...

Haha if Luke were at the picnic, Brenna would have been very happy...

For you folks technologically challenged on twitter as I was, Carmen googled and found out that if you have registered your device and added your people to follow, text "track______" (put in the name of who it is, Chris Sligh in this case) and send to 40404, and you should start getting twitters to your phone.

Carrie said...

Thanks for the tip, Risa.

And thanks, Chris. Now all I do is Twitter. I've been fighting the urge to keep from updating it with pointless stuff every 10 minutes.

DJ in AL said...

Emilyboo,

The shirt was a gift, and I got it ages ago.

I'm not sure they are still making them or not.

I have a question and I am asking some of the smartest people I know. So here goes. Does Chris get our replies like here or is it just that he is sending messages that we get and the replies just go to our own Twitter board? Thanks Guys

Candy -

I don't know that much about Twitter. It looks like you just send out very brief messages to inform people about what you are doing. People who are "following" you will see them. If you notice, Chris has "Followers", but he is "Following" no one. Therefore, he will not see anyone else's messages there, and probably won't look for any messages that are "public" on that site. You can't blame him for that. It would get pretty crazy for him if he was following everyone in return. If you have a response to anything he says there, I would leave it here, on the blog.

BTW, when we went on the tour of RCA Recording Studio B in Nashville, another woman took a look at my bag and asked if I was Chris's mother. She and her husband also liked Chris on AI.

I was at the airport the other night to pick up my step daughter and kids. Their plane came in from San Francisco. Also on the plane were two retired baseball players -Raleigh Fingers (he still has his handlebar moustache) and Ernie Banks. They had limo services waiting to pick them up. Raleigh glanced at my bag as he passed and smiled.... I should have stopped him for his autograph but wasn't thinking about it at the time.

Hischild said...

Roasalee,
I liked your stories. I remember Fingers for that mustache. Incredible that he STILL has it after all these years. My 12 yr old son got his autograph on a ball about 4 yrs ago. He was the only kid in the whole crowd who asked politely and thus the only one he obliged. I believe his name is spelled Rollie, though.
Maybe he's a closet Sligh fan. :o)

chamilton said...

Rosalee,
Thanks for your response. I kinda thought that but wasn't sure. It would be kinda crazy for him of his phone was getting text messages all the time on top of everything else that he has going on. It's been a long bad week and I am so happy that you took the time to answer my question. Thanks again and take care.

My first time to comment. Heard "Empty Me" on our local Christian radio station, WMHK in Columbia, SC, for the first time yesterday. That's saying a lot to get that station to play a new artist with new music! Congratulations.
