There once was a singer named Chris,
Whose song, "Empty Me" couldn't miss.
It's hit number 9
Now isn't that fine?
So Sarah, go give him a kiss!

: )

Wonderful, wonderful! You were right, it just takes a little time (and a LOT of hard work).
We all knew it was golden when we first heard it. So nice to see it becoming reality now. You SO deserve it.

Hello, my name is Elise. I'm working with youth in the church in Norway and heard you sing the song "Vessel" in TV later. I thougt that was the most beutiful song ever! And now I am trying to find a good translation of the word "vessel" into norwegian. Can you do me the favour and describe it more in english? (sorry for my english is not so good) Best wishes and blessings from Elise

Hi Elise,
Sometimes an artist wants to know what his creation means to others so......
Chris will probably answer this in a better way when he gets a chance but here is a start....at least one fans view.
Vessel can be a person seen as the agent or embodiment, as of a quality: a vessel of mercy.
In Scripture mankind is often described as being filled with the Spirit of God. In the song "Empty Me" Chris wrote, "Empty me of me fill me with you." In Vessel Chris gives almost the sense of being grateful. Made or molded perfectly by God the Creator in this life here on earth that we were given. His creation is asking sweetly and humbly to be used for the purpose it was made, to glorify the beauty of His work.
At least thats what it means to me.

I knew this song would be charting if it got some air play. On a side note this past weekend at my local Wal Mart, there were two copies of RBTY and they had stickers on them that said.. "INCLUDES THE HIT SONG "EMPTY ME"... AWESOME

I'm proud for your dude, seriously, proud!

Just validates for me, that I do know good music when I hear it!

Risa-you go girl, you can Sligh-ku with the best of them!

Happy Tuesday!

Congratulations!
What took them so long?!
It's been a HIT with us before it
was even pressed!!!

Unknown said...

Yahoo!!!

Elise, Welcome! in case you need a more literal translation, a vessel is a container for holding something. Then, figuratively, it can also be a person into whom a quality (like grace) is infused, which is what Badpacifist eloquently described.

Slighku? Risa's is a limerick, methinks, and a good one ;-) But "slighku" makes me miss Sandmoran--isn't she the queen of the slighku?

DJ in AL said...

Ah GirlyGirl, you may be right, but a good one, no matter, yes?

I thought of Sandy too.

BTW nice to have you around again. You MUST get yourself to the picnic next year!

Dj,

I think that was a slimerick, not a slighku.

Haha...poetry terms!

rosalee said...

Risa's creation is a Sligh-merick. Check out the Forums on Chris-sligh.info or Chrissligh.com for more examples of Sligh-mericks and Sligh-kus...

Now I am hearing The Beatles Revolution #9 in my head...

Number 9.. Number 9.. Number 9..

Congrats, Chris!!

rosalee said...

Ha! - I see we got in there at the same time, Chris!

Glad to see you know your terminology. Maybe someone should put these terms in the Urban Dictionary! (or Wikipedia) LOL!!

rosalee said...

BTW, new story.....

I took "Chris Sligh" with me to the dentist this weekend. When he saw the bag, he exclaimed, "I know that face!!" and proceeded to ask about Chris. Also, my dental hygienist, remembering my stories about Chris from 6 months ago, told me that her husband met Chris at the NAMM Convention in California this past winter. Her husband had an audio equipment booth there and asked to have his picture taken with Chris so that he could give it to their 10 year old daughter. She's going to send me the photo. Small world.

Rosalee,
Girl I get stopped all the time about my purse. Even if people don't know who it is, they love my purse. That purse has been the best advertising tool I have used thus far to promote Chris. And we all know that I have used a bunch of them. I am thinking of having a lunch bag done. Snaptotes is running a special. You need to enter your bag in the contest that they are having. Wouldn't it be cool if a Chris Sligh bag won??

Ok since Risa wrote a Sligh-merick then I will try a Sligh-Ku

It’s in the top ten
Chris’s single Empty Me
Congratulations!

Rosalee~Thanks for giving Audra's blog a shout out on the fan site. She will be so excited. She is an official "Fro Patro" girl now....

Well, if we needed a Swedish translation instead of Norwegian, we'd be in luck. Darling daughter's boyfriend, Magnus, who was at the picnic, is originally from Sweden. He came over about ten years ago on a tennis scholarship for the University of AR and loved it so much here, he stayed. I'm impressed, GDA!

Slighkus....love reading others' creations, but after so many years in early childhood, you know whatever I write would have to rhyme. Slighmericks for me!

And now for your viewing and listening pleasure, here's one last video clip-It's Gonna Be Me and Let You Know. I hope to get sister's picnic footage soon...she had to take the disk back with her cause it had footage from a party her friends in Atlanta gave her she had to show her husband.

You're absolutely right! The bag works MUCH BETTER than the t-shirt.
It's absolutely eye-catching!

I'm going to use it to work the crowd at the Ledyard Fair in Ledyard CT on Sept. 6th, if we go (weather permitting, etc). I'm trying to get GDA to join me. It would be nice if he came, since he hasn't met Chris yet. The problem is that Chris said that he is only doing 3 songs. Other Idols are also performing, though (Justin Guarini and Diana DeGarmo). The trip for us is approximately 3 hours and for GDA to drive to me, it would be at least an additional hour. It's a long way to travel for 3 songs. There's supposed to be a meet and greet after the show, but better he spend that time cultivating new blood...

I'll look into that Snaptotes.com contest.....

Chris,

Slimerick, I love it! another Slighism. We may need to write a book! Although all I can think of now is slime, don't want to associate that word with you, dude.

.....and Carmnen's and Risa's story tells me you need to continue to plaster your face all over everything you do for recognition...everyone loves you once they put your face with your voice.

DJ in AL said...

Sorry, Rosalee's story, not Risa's...don't want Rosalee to kill me:)

DJ, thanks, i will make it to a picnic one of these years, if only to see you table dancing, lol!
Rosalee, great story on the bag. There is a Sanjaya fan who has a bag covered with Sanjaya buttons. She took it on a bus trip from Arkansas to Seattle to see Sanjaya perform at a benefit, and it sparked many a conversation on that long journey!

risalea said...

I'm glad you like them, Carrie! Cindy did good.

Ok, if we compile a book of slighmericks and slighkus, does that mean we owe Chris royalties? : )

Gaylon wants to know if my latest purchase is what put it over the top. LOL I've got a good hubby....even if he did call the nurse DJ and told her she was a "crazy girl" when he came out of anesthesia after a routine test today. heehee It was too funny.

OK, later, friends! Risa

Carianne said...

LOL Risa, I don't think you'd owe Chris royalties for anything with all of the CDs you've bought.

Empty Me is #29 under Christian/Gospel on iTunes!

Chris, you know you've done well when there's an entire 7 Song EP based on that ONE song. :)

Hey guys,
I went to the Idol Tour in Indy last night. I got free VIP tickets because my friend wanted to go and her husband "made" me go in his place. I wasn't intending on going because I knew I'd be sad that I wasn't enjoying the Season 6 concert again. But I do really like David Cook and Brooke White so I was looking forward to it well enough. I wore my ChrisSligh.com shirt because he's, duh, my favorite. :) haha.

Although the individual performances were all really good, the overall lay out of the concert was back to the "old" way of doing things where they basically count down from 10th place to 1st place and there are no duets, trios, or anything different or special at all. Thats what made Chris' Idol tour so fantastic - everyone was so tight knit and there were so many different combinations of contestants performing together. Not to mention the funny segues like the Chriljaya shenanigans, and then there's the priceless guys band doing "Hey Jude" - what could top that? So, suffice to say, last night's show made me miss last year's show SO much and I just wanted to share that with you all. I know this isn't the place for this year's tour recaps, so.

If you are interested in more details, I posted my recap on my blog. MJ might post mine on her site too; I dunno though.

www.hstryqt.blogspot.com

- leave a comment if you check it out.
So, point being - Im sad I cant re-experience the awesomeness that was the Season 6 Idol tour, but I also am looking way forward now to my upcoming Chris concerts!! :)

I was going to browse some of the other comments but it will take too long! LOL Congratulations on your song going #9. When I saw that you had a blog, I had to come over and leave a comment letting you know just how much your song "Empty Me" has touched me.

I have claimed that song as my life song for the moment. :o) LOL Everytime I hear it played on K-Love, it just makes me want to cry as I think about the way I struggle every day to be what God wants me to be. All of the bad stuff gets in the way too frequently. And every time that song is on, I pray "empty me of me so I can be filled with you".

It's really awesome to have a song you sing go so high on the charts (I'm assuming, I'm not a musician so I don't know firsthand). But I'm sure there are so many people out there who are just touched by the song you sing, like me. So thank you for singing such a wonderful song and putting so much heart into it. :o)

HstryQT said...

yay! mj posted my recap! it has a few sligh shout outs.

chris- do you know why they wouldnt have done the same season-6-esque layout for the tour this year? as someone who lived it for 4 months, did you find the set hard to pull off w/ all the duets anf=d group numbers? since it was so great, why would they go back to the boring 10 to 1 solos countdown format? money? i mentioned in my recap on mjs that maybe you could shed some light on the subject.

Hischild said...

I agree, Lori. I was SO disappointed to see them go back to that original stinking format for the tour show. I'm at a loss to understand why. Last year was SO much fun!
Congrats on your review being picked up by MJ! How exciting. That's what I was hoping for w/mine, seeing that it was the very first show but MJ was there herself AND my very detailed review was somehow lost. I had no time or strong desire to re-do it.
Blah!

A new Empty Me spotting!

Yesterday I tuned in to the CCM radio channel on TV and Empty Me came on!! First time I've heard it there. With their trivia graphics I even found out a few things I didn't know about Chris. It said he was offered a chance to study at Julliard School of Music and the Metropolitan Opera?? Is that accurate?

Next place I want to hear Empty Me is piping through the sound system at some store in the mall. :o)

HstryQT said...

Hey Clarissa, yea I knew you'd been to the first show so I was interested to hear your thoughts again, now after having been myself. I've emailed back and forth with MJ a time or two and she knows me (I guess) but I still dont post there often so I didnt know if my recap would be of value because Im not in on all their inside jokes :) - but she put it up and that made me happy!

And btw - Im waiting to hear Empty Me in Chick Fila!! :) My favorite fast food joint, plays christian music.. its just BOUND to happen one day :).

Hello to Elise and welcome! It's cool to hear from someone from another country.
I like the idea about the bag with Chris' picture on it. Maybe someone should make a bunch of Chris Sligh bags and sell them at the picnic and give the money to St. Jude's.
You all with your pictures of Chris and yourself are making me jealous-ha, ha! I want one!
Chris, what is the Seminar in the Rockies? What are you doing there? I am only a few hours away from Estes Park, but can't come because I don't drive and won't have a ride. I would have loved to see you! So close yet so far away...

Hey guys,
So I have a story to tell.... I called the radio station in Ponca City Oklahoma yesterday for ticket information on the upcoming show there and so the lady on the phone asks since you don't get the station in Wichita how did you find out about the show and so I told about the web site and the fro patro she then asked if I had seen Chris and I told her that this would be my third show of the summer and then she started asking me all the questions about how long the set lasts and what he sings ect. and if I had met him and of course I said yes and told her what a nice guy our Chris is and aboout the You tube Idolfav video and then she asked me for my first name and that made me kinda nervous.. I don't know if she put me on some kind of stalker list or what but anyway I get to but my tickets on Tuesday and I am excited. I hope this time he plays "Are you Pleased" because he did not in OKC. So take care all and Chris if you are reading I am not a stalker but she asked for my opinion and I gave it to her...

DJ in AL said...

Candy,

If that makes you a stalker then most of could be described as stalkers. LOL

You go girl, that is exactly the kind of promotion Chris needs! Some of these radio stations are asleep at the wheel.

That is a great idea. I could maybe take that one home. All my friends call me the Chris Sligh stalker. I am so proud..

risalea said...

Luckily for you, Candy, the picnic committee is not eligible for trophies next year, hence you won't have to compete with Carmen.

(said Risa, ducking quickly from the large object Carmen has no doubt thrown towards AR from the direction of FL!)

LOL, you know I love you Carmen.

We're not stalkers, just dedicated supporters, and you can't have enough of those, right, Chris?

And, Carmen and Rosalee, BTW, in showing the picnic pictures, the picture of you girls with your bags is generating many positive comments! Girls just love their purses! I just wish we could find a less expensive source to make it possible for a revenue source for Chris or a possible fundraiser as suggested.

rosalee said...

Risa -

There are companies that sell inexpensive tote bags with photos on them for $15-$20, but I don't know what the quality is like. Tote bags are only used on occasion anyway. The photo needs to be on an everyday bag. I'm sure there must be other companies out there that do it and maybe cheaper.

BTW, whatgoeson516 is me. They're Harry's videos, except for the first GMC one.

risalea said...

Kudos to Harry! I thought they turned out well.

rosalee said...

I had submitted a "Most Likely to Stalk" award suggestion for this year's trophies (my Feb 11th email). Maybe next year I'll resubmit my list! (LOL)

Cathy Storms said...

Kudos to Harry, those videos are awesome. Be sure to say hello to Harry for Deliah. She is still talking about him. Don't worry Chris you will always be her #1 best friend.
Time was a huge factor in last years trophy selection plus $$ for making them. This year I have much more time to put into them, so yes, a "Biggest Stalker" is definetly on the list.

EmilyBoo said...

Hey ladies, I did a quick search on photo purses...

Walmart photo online has photo purses at about $40 or less, they are the type that you can get interchangeable fabric photo panels for about $10 each, so if you want to change photos, you don't have to go to the expense of a whole new purse.

Personalizationmall.com has a couple of options for under $40 and even under $30. I think additional photo "flaps" are available for these as well.

On just a quick search, that is about all I came up with that was more inexpensive than the site mentioned upthread. I saw a few other sites that I'd never heard of and am not sure I trust.

BEING ALL PHILOSOPHICAL ON A FRIDAY NIGHT

So, I really should be doing a jillion things tonight, but well, procrastination is my middle name. I was writing the other day, and was thinking about how finding Chris's blog had been one of those life-changing events that you don't know is life-changing at the time. That seems a little melodramatic when viewing it in black and white, but it's true, and it all has to do with relationships and their impact. I think about the impact Amanda had on so many of us and so many others we'll never know, in part because of this blog. Then there are the wonderful friends I've come to know and love, even though they are far away. I marvel at the event we pulled off this month that brought so many of us together and gave us an opportunity to jointly support St. Jude and children helped by Compassion International. And I think about how a little decision by Chris to give AI one more shot, gave all of us the chance to get to know him and his music and his message, and led to all of the above.

And it's all good. So, it doesn't seem surprising, does it, that "Empty Me" has continued its climb up the charts, and has found its audience. And it doesn't surprise me that this blog has done what Chris set out for it to do from the beginning, to allow him to form relationships with his supporters that went beyond them buying his CD's and tickets to his concerts.

Truly amazing how things work out. God is good.

Carmen said...

Risa,
All I can say to that is "Amen sister!"

You know what you said got me to thinking about the Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul. You should submit your story to them about the picnic and Amanda and Chris's blog. I think it would make a wonderful addition to their next book.

I almost dropped my pop. The story was about the picnic and there were many shots of all you guys. By this time I am losing my mind so much for quiet moments my husband woke up this morning to " there's Carrie and oh look it's Cathy and then they had a shot of all of you getting your picture taken and a quote from Brianna. Our church's youth groups go on mission trips every year. Last year, for the first time, they had sponsors and a sponsor dinner. They are doing that again this year. Last year, some of the sponsors gave gifts for some of their youth sponsorees. I was astounded! I never know what to give anyone as a gift, but this year, thanks to Chris!!!! I have a great gift to give the kids (my husband sponsored one boy and I sponsored another one). I am giving each boy a Chris Sligh Running Back To You CD. I am so thrilled that I have found a good gift to give each kid. It's really difficult to know what to give teenage boys, and a Christian music CD would be great. I know the boy I sponsor loves music (he plays drums & piano). And I know the mom of the boy my hubby is sponsoring loves music (sings beautifully), so I'm sure both will appreciate the CD. So if anyone from my church is reading this blog, don't spill the beans ahead of time! The dinner is in one week.

I was checking Itunes and noticed they had a Praise Hymn soundtrack that had nothing but "Empty Me" on it. Quite cool but only if you get the royalites from it. The title said "Empty Me" made famous by Chris Sligh. Now thats cool...I'm guessing this is so any church can use your song since it was in different keys and speeds.

I just got back from "Mamma Mia." Obviously, it's not taking any Oscars away from "Dark Knight", but it is a lot of fun, and a definite mood brightener if you're in need of one. (I was) By the end, the whole theater was singing along. Well, maybe it was just my row. OK, maybe it was just me. LOL Don't leave before the credits roll...you'll miss one of the best parts of the whole thing.
