Way too long

Hey guys...it has been a while. Sorry I haven't been more active. I've been crazy busy and the blog has suffered.

So...wanted to give an update on what is going on.

Just finished my album. It comes out September 14. The first single is "Only You Can Save" and it hits radio next Friday (July 17). I am super excited about the record, obviously, and will be posting a song by song exploration very soon.

I just finished producing Andrew Witt's album. Thanks to those of you who were involved financially. You don't know how much you helped. We literally couldn't have made as great an album without your help. If you haven't heard the songs yet, check out facebook.com/andrewwittmusic. The 2 EPs should be available for purchase by mid to late July.

I start this week on Brian Bortnick's record. I'm excited about this one, too. The songs are really good, interesting and different. Yet, very commercial. Brian is recording some of ya'lls favorites - like "I'm Ready" and "I Am". Can't wait for you guys to hear what we're cooking up on this album. It will be fantastic, I promise.

In August, I will be spending 8 days writing in Los Angeles. So, that will be awesome. Then I have a show in NM and then Sarah and I are taking a much much-needed vacation for 6-7 days. We need some rest and relaxation after a long year so far and with the baby coming. Gosh, I feel relaxed just thinking about that week of doing nothing!

Then in the fall I head out with Downhere for about 20 shows. I'll also be doing some spot dates on my own, so look for those dates to come up.

And hopefully we'll be doing a Christmas tour this year...we'll see what happens.

I'm excited to be working again. Last year was difficult. I feel useless/worthless when I'm not working hard. It's nice to feel useful again!

How about a concert while you're in LA?

Let me know when your in LA & I'll buy you dinner. Can you tell us who your writing with? And when you come, please bring some sunshine with you. It's been really icky here.

I'm glad last year is behind you! Sounds like you have more than enough on your plate now to keep you busy and happy. Both yours and Andrews new stuff is "off the hook" (to steal a line from Randy Jackson) LOL!
I am so excited about the release of all this great music into the airwaves!

So glad you and Sarah have a vaca planned I imagine is it long overdue!

Enjoy this time in your life, I have a feeling this may be the BEST times eva!

Don't see a concert getting close to AL....you need to work on that dude!

Whoa, you have been busy. A vacation is definitely in order. You will need to rest up for the baby's arrival.

Looking forward to seeing the tour schedule with Downhere. They are one of my favorite bands. To see you and them at the same time would be wonderful. Maybe there is a Dallas/Fort Worth visit in the offering? *crosses fingers*

Hi Chris! So stoked for your new single! Any chance I might be able to wrangle an online interview with you for my website? (I stream Christian music, and am ranking pretty well for a lot of new Christian singles, including Jeremy Camp's "Jesus Saves" and Nichole Nordeman's "Beautiful For Me." (I'm on Page 2 for your song, "Empty Me.") To whom I can send the email request to ask for an interview?

((happy hugs))

You get to tour with your favorite, Downhere?? very cool for you! :-)

I don't know about all the rest of your news, but I am anxious to see the result of all your efforts. It all sounds good!

You haven't been useless. You have just been exploring other aspects of your talents. :-) Dig in, and enjoy it all, boy.

EmilyBoo said...

I listened to Andrew's music on facebook. It sounds great. My favorites are Holding You and So Much More.

Thanks for the link to tour dates, Carmen. Chris, you'll be in Michigan on my birthday! (The wrong part of Michigan, but at least it's not the UP.) Unfortunately, it's the weekend before a long camping weekend, so we likely won't be able to make it a weekend trip. We shall see. If I do make it, that will be 3 times I see Downhere this year, and 2 for you. When did I become a bigger fan of them than you? Maybe if you weren't slacking on scheduling Michigan dates... ;) (Just kidding, don't stop coming here, please.)

I did kind of a silly (yet awesome and exciting) thing... in regards to weekend availability. Hubby has been on the large group team for Sunday school (K-4) this past year, while I was a small group leader (3rd grade teacher.) In large group they have music and the bulk of the lesson, whether it's videos or skits; and in small group we do memory work and activities to reinforce the lesson. For this fall I have volunteered for large group. I'm looking forward to it and truly happy to do it, but it makes me feel a little tied down, too. It's just harder to get two substitutes for large group than one for small group and one for large group. When things like a Sunday Chris Sligh worship service/concert on the other side of the state come up...

I can't wait to hear Only You Can Save on the radio!!

EmilyBoo said...

Sorry, Emily the novelist strikes again...

risalea said...

OK, you will have to give details about your NM show in August if it's for the public. You know I have been on this crazy summer concert tour and not one Chris Sligh concert in the bunch. It's an abomination, and if I carry through with the suggestion to immortalize my concert dates on a t-shirt, it will be WRONG not to have you on there somewhere!

I'm sure I'll love Brian's record, but I'm still trying to come to grips with "I'm Ready" being on his instead of yours. Couldn't you cut us your version available on iTunes or something? I just LOVE that one.

Please remind us about the correct way to encourage radio stations to play "Only You Can Save." I know there's a fine line between being enthusiastic and obnoxious.

The link Chris posted is to Andrew's personal FB page, and it's his fan page that has the songs posted. I don't know if there's an easy to remember address for that, but if you do a search for Andrew Witt, the fan page will pop up. Here it is:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Andrew-Witt/122741011303?ref=ts

OK, off to bed here in a minute, before midnight for the first time this week! Night!

I look forward to hearing your latest single on WLFJ!

robyn said...

Hey, I don't know how you could've felt useless last year...I saw you in concert twice! I'm sure lots of bloggers saw you more than that. That seems busy to me. Course I think you like other kinds of busy too, I imagine. But I like that you did all that recording because now we get to have another CD to listen to!!! I can't wait to hear the first single on the radio though!!! YAY!!!

Anonymous said...

risa-- the best success with getting airplay that I have heard, is calling in and speaking directly with the djs there. They want to hear a voice, and an opinion. They want the interaction, and potential usability for their radio shows. You can tell them even what's new with your fav artist, and give them the feeling of something going on there. :-)

We had one lady who was a regular caller to a satellite radio show, and she had very good success. The guy knew her by name after awhile! LOL. Human interest is always best, IMO. Email request-pinging does not work.

By the way Chris, I consider Twitter to be the single-best thing to happen to fandom in recent memory. Thank you for using it, and sharing your music with us!

LOVED the Keith Urban-possibility. Can so hear that, and it is exciting to think about.

I haven't heard it on the radio yet. My local station is SOOO slow to pick up new songs. I listen more to the Message on sirius, anyway. I think I'll request them to play it on facebook. They're actually usually pretty responsive.

I did, however, hear Third Day's new single, Lift Up Your Face, for the first time today, and I loved it. Mac Powell and the Blind Boys of Alabama, yay!

risalea said...

Let's contact our local stations, peeps, as well as K-Love (don't bombard, but let them know you love "Only You Can Save.")

First few spins have come out of Indy? Well GO Indy :).

Here is the listing of "New" music at KLOVE, which Chris isn't on (I'm not surprised; but just wanted to check). http://www.klove.com/music/songs/new-songs.aspx KLOVE is super slow moving, so I was curious what Chris thought the time line would be for serious airplay with them. I'll try calling, too. Also one of their stations is now in Brownsburg, the town north of me. Their morning show is based out of there now - fun huh?

We're all changing our Facebook pictures to pics of us with Sligh to promote the single release - if you didn't get the memo :). Twitter is being more difficult.

risalea said...

Lori, checked the twitter status updates, and they are working on the updating profile issue and hope to have it resolved soon. Until then, I'm a little blue bird! LOL

I have to tell this story..Yesterday on my way home from work, I was listening to Chris's new song "Only You Can Save". I pulled up to a red light at a really busy intersection. It's by a freeway on ramp and your stuck there forever. As I was waiting at the red light, this car in the next lane, 1st in line to go when the light turned green, turns off his car, gets out, walks across 3 lanes of really busy traffic. I like many others were thinking "What in the heck is he doing"? Turns out there was a homeless guy on the offramp looking for money. This young man, hands him a sandwich. I couldn't help but feel amazed by this. I asked myself, hmmm,I wonder if he's heard Chris's new song. With this small gester, no one honked at this young man, no one was yelling at him (which is totally not the way it happens here).
All's I can say is God is Awesome and everyone really needs to reach out to the lost even if it's a small gester.
I thought this was an awesome story...It made my night...

robyn said...

Cathy,
That's an awesome story! Thanks for sharing it with us. It sure gave me some goosebumps and made me think how that's exactly the spirit in which "Only You Can Save" is meant.

DJ in AL said...

Great story Cathy and definitely in keeping with the spirit of OYCS!

Thanks for sharing! Hope everyone is having an awesome week!

risalea said...

That is a wonderful story, Cathy. So many times we just look over the tops of people's heads, you know...afraid to make eye contact. Important that we look people in the eye and give them the respect they deserve. This young man certainly did.

Cathy Storms said...

Yes he did. I asked myself, I wonder if he heard Chris's song...
Not to often a song will change my way of thinking or make me want to change. This one has. It has made me look at people differently, not just over their heads as Risa said...

EmilyBoo said...

What a great story, Cathy! I got goosebumps as I read it. Then I read Robyn's comment about getting goosebumps! :)

Cathy Storms said...

I still get goosebumps everytime I think about it. I have never seen anything like that.

Amy's Purple Poodles said...

Cathy-I loved hearing your story! I think that is really awesome, especially since you were listening to OYCS when it happened. I haven't heard OYCS where I live yet, but I hope to soon. If not, then I'll try looking up the station in Denver. Someone told me you can listen to radio statons online from anywhere in the country.

So you you know how Phil Stacey will be at my church in August while I'm over at a festival on the other side of the state? Well, the guy who is organizing the concert at my church just sent me a facebook message asking if I know anyone who might want to pick up Phil at the airport. I'd totally do it if I wasn't 200 miles away! :( Still frustrated that I can't be in two places at once.

Cleanaturalady said...

OK, guys, while I will admit to being a Twitter junkie, I really miss our back and forth conversations here on the blog. I know I'm guilty of not checking in as often as I should, but let's do better! ; )

Hope everyone has a marvelous weekend. It is hot as, well heck, here in the lovely state of Arkansas, over 100 through the weekend and beyond, actual temp. I shudder to think what the heat index is. Thank you, Lord and whoever invented AC!

Got a big weekend planned with a birthday celebration for a friend, one more bridal dress fitting for Linds and get ready for work on Monday. Well, that last part is not so exciting. LOL

Chris, what is your filming schedule looking like? I see from Twitter you've been working with Brian this week.

EmilyBoo said...

http://www.goa-inc.com/tour.php?id=134#

Actually, it looks like Chris won't be in Michigan for this tour? :( I think it will be Downhere and Rush of Fools instead... Bummer, I wanted to go for my birthday.

risalea said...

My guess is because the date for that is around the time of Bambino Sligh arriving. I see there's a date in Texarkana, TX (about 3 hours from me) on Nov. 4...do I dare slip out of town so close to the wedding? It's as close as he's getting, so I just might if no pre-wedding events are scheduled.

risalea said...

I love Chris's wonderful band, but sometimes stripped down acoustic says it all.... http://www.twitvid.com/5K7HH

The guy filming forgot the first rule of videoing during a concert...do not sing along while filming. (a rule I have been known to break from time to time) ; )

HstryQT said...

There aren't any shows super close to me, either, but a heck of a lot in Ohio and Illinois. I google mapped every one of them a few weeks ago to decide which was closest; and now I've gone and forgotten!... It's been TWO YEARS since I've seen Chris (unbelievable right?) so I'm hoping to make it work - maybe make a Carmen meet-up out of it? Huh Carmen? :)

DJ in AL said...

Great vid Risa thanks for posting! I love acoustic...Chris's voice always shines through so pure and strong! Course love me some boys-in-the-band too!

Lori, I can't believe you haven't seen Chris in 2 years...that can't be right? You must do something about this before the year ends.

Hope the Fro Patro and the Blogger Girls, Mama Fro and the Fro himself are all doing well tonight!

Sending you all love from DJ in a sultry AL!

OMGoodness! Missing a chance to give Phil a ride??? Heartbreaker!
God must have some other HUGE blessing for you that weekend.

Hello to all my blogger friends. I agree w/Risa: not enough activity here lately. I forget to check it like I used to. Will try to do better.

Hope you are all enjoying summer, despite the high temps. Remember to schedule R&R. Observe the Sabbath - find one day a week to just DO NOTHING. It's good for body AND soul. (These are actual doctors orders for me.)
And I paid her in FULL. ha ha

risalea said...

I have been having the Sabbath 7 days out of 7 this summer...LOL, well not really, but I didn't do a great job at whittling down my summer to do list. I am officially back on the clock tomorrow. BLAH! It's too hot to go back to work this week, but Yay! for a paycheck! Just pray NO PLAYGROUND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE VISITS UNTIL OCTOBER! ; )

Cleanaturalady said...

I don't know you all very well, but I do enjoy reading your comments. Sounds like you all have developed some close friendships.

risalea said...

Hey, Kim. Yes, we have. We were all strangers until we met here on Chris's blog. Some of us have been here since he was able to start blogging again after he left Idol in March 07, others have come along since. We always tell him when we are able to get together for a gathering or one of his shows, we come as much to see each other as him. LOL Anyway, glad to see you join in our conversation!

Cleanaturalady said...

It took me a while to jump in, risalea, I have been following and reading for about 2 years I guess. You all just seemed nice and genuine, which is not easy to find on the Internet, that I felt comfortable. I have never gotten to go to a Chris concert. The last time he was in the Dallas/Forth Worth area (with Aaron Shust, another of my favs), I was all set to go and my youngest got the flu and was pretty sick, so I didn't want to leave him. That concert was about 60 miles away from me. Now, this round, he's not going to be that close. Maybe some day.

risalea said...

Kim, far are you from Texarkana? There's a show there Nov. 4th I may try to attend. I know...except when he's come the last two yrs for the JL fundraiser here, it's always a trip to go see him....about 5 hours is average for me, with the exception of one in NW AR and another in Memphis one time.

Oh, and this good news from MJ's blog this morning!

Another Chris also reached a milestone. Sligh’s debut single from his second album (for his new label) has reached top 40 on the CAC chart.

WOOHOO!

Cleanaturalady said...

Texarkana is about 3 hours away. I wish Nov 4th was on a weekend. With four kids everything that goes on during the week, I don't know if I could swing that kind of drive.

Good news about the single. It is a great song, I am not surprised about the success. Great words and a catchy tune are a wonderful combo.

EmilyBoo said...

Ah yes, Risa, I keep forgetting about the bambino date... when is it again? I can't find it. It just bums me out to see the closest tour date to me, Chris won't even be there. Sigh. And re: top 40... AWESOME! But I still haven't heard it on the radio. Granted, I mostly listen to my ipod, so I couldn't say if my local station has been playing it.

But good news Chris, I replaced my PC. It's still a PC (I know, I know, talk to my hubby about macs,) and am now able to use itunes again!!

Clearsa, I know, right? I have such a tough life. Haha! I'm gonna have a great time that weekend, I'm sure.

Lori, if I'm not mistaken, it looks like Chris is not in on any of the Ohio dates. I'd love to find out otherwise... if we do, I'd like to try to meet you at one!

Inga said...

Lori,
Gotta apologize for not answering your recent post. I have been on vacation in the Keys & like so many others have not been checking the blog like I should. Just checked tour dates for the Sligh/ Downhere tour and looks like they will be playing on Oct 2 in Peachtree City, GA. That is a Saturday & my B-Day and as it is only a mere 5 1/2 hour drive. (very short compared to other concerts I have gone to)-- I know what I am doing for my birthday. Oh yeah!! Just made my Tuesday!!

EmilyBoo said...

Carmen,
Peachtree City, Georgia would be a 13+ hour drive for me, but... since my birthday is the next weekend and Chris won't be there for the Michigan date? Maybe I could try to meet up with you! A Saturday should be easier to plan for than a Sunday anyway....
If I do come to this though, I most likely would not be able to come down in November.

DJ in AL said...

Um, Peachtree City? Really? Cause that's only 2.5 hours from here if I looked at it correctly. Can't believe he's getting that close! Totally have to get to that one. Thanks Carmen for telling me about it...I didn't see it on his tour schedule and I still don't see it.

Emilyboo it would be awesome to finally get to meet you!

Carmen said...

DJ & Emily,
I called the theater in Peachtree City and they said that it wasn't official just yet but for me to go ahead and make my trip plans if I wanted to come. I signed up for their email newsletter so I would know as soon as it was official. Want to make sure AI get front row seats!
I would be thrilled if you could make it Emily. My motto is the more blogger girls, the more fun the concert. You gotta come!!
DJ, you can't ask for closer than 2.5 hours plus it is on a Saturday so no having touse vacation days.
I found the info on the Greg Oliver Agency website.

DJ in AL said...

Thanks Carmen for the info I went to the theater site and signed up too. Hoping I can get front row as well!

Carmen and DJ-you lucky ducks possibly going to GA to see Chris. How cool is that? No dates here in CO. BOO! That sounds like an awesome b-day present for you, Carmen.

I hope everyone is having a great summer. I'm leaving for Kentucky in about two weeks to visit my aunt. We are also going to Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas.

Chris-Congrats on "Only you can Save" making it to top 40! AWESOME!!

Miss everyone,

Peachtree City Ga???? It's really tempting Carmen & DJ. Hubby said I could come but it's pretty pricey for a weekend. Not that I haven't done it before. The timings good. Thats the week hubby's going fishing for 10 days. What do you think Risa?

I agree with you Risa, we all seem to be on twitter more than the blog. I do miss the conversations here.

Carmen, I can't get the link to work for preordering the CD. Can you send it to me please???

Welcome Kim V. Glad you found the blog.

Carmen said...

Cathy,
Forget that link. It went directly to word. You can now order on www.chrissligh.com. The only difference I noiticed was that the blue shirt was a "heather blue" while the blue shirt on the other site was called a Navy Blue. I already ordered mine.
You should come to Peachtree. It is going to be fun.

Carmen said...

Oh I forgot to mention that you get the three downloads right away. I absolutely love love the arrangement Chris did with Here Comes Good-bye. I think it is way better than Rascal Flatts. Just sayin!

EmilyBoo said...

Love the poster that comes with the pre-order package!
Cathy, if you come to Georgia, I will make even more of a point to try to make it!

rosalee said...

I have to agree with you, Carmen - I really like Chris's version of "Here Comes Goodbye".

October 2nd is the day of my parrot club's annual show, so I'll be going to that. I'll see you guys in November.

Amy -
What you see on Chrissligh.com is what Chris calls a "splash page", which is a lead-in page to the website. Chris's record label is taking over the website. I'm sure that is it in the process of being redesigned. Once it is ready, there should be access to the standard topics - bio, news, tour schedule, blog, discography, photos, video, store, message boards, etc..

chamilton said...

Hey guys,
Asusual Miss Risa is right. I miss the blog too especially since I can't figure out the twitter thing. I miss all of you and I hope that Seattle or close pops up soon. The drive will be so much prettier than the ones from Kansas to Oklahoma. Take care all.
Candy
P.S. Totally love the downloads and can't wait for my new shirt

So two days ago my desktop came down with a nasty virus, my first! I took it in to the Geek Squad. Then last night. I turn on my laptop so I can do the pre-order thing and the same crap is popping up. I can't begin to tell you how frustrated I am and how broke I'm gonna be fixing these lovely things.

So, I must wait, sadly, for Chris's HCG. I guess I'll have to go to YouTube on my iPhone and watch the video of when he sang it here until my computer issues are ironed out. Until then, I'm grateful for my iPhone. It may be a call dropper, but when it comes to web browsing, it's a champ. ; )

Lindsay has her first pre-wedding event-some of my dear friends are giving her and Magnus an engagement party tonight. Lots to do, so I better get with it. Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

http://bit.ly/bj3Bhw Here's a link to Chris's new FB fanpage. Very cool, even if the fangirl page had to get the boot. LOL Yay, Word Records for awesome promotion!

risalea said...

Oh. the baby could have Gaylon's Oct. 27h birthday, but I wouldn't wish being 2 weeks late on anyone, much less sweet Sarah! ; )

risalea said...

Hey, folks, a friend just gave me a heads-up that MJ has posted about the FB page and the album. Get over there and post a comment! (scroll down under the very sad Fantasia story)

EmilyBoo said...

I didn't know about a fangirl FB page??

I've been sitting here listening to the music on the facebook page all day, to the detriment of errands that should have been run, and work that should have been done in other parts of the house (where I can't hear the computer.) Can't wait until I can have it on my ipod!!

DJ in AL said...

Listening and listening to The Anatomy of Broken on FB.....I wonder how long it will take me to memorize the words this time? Love, love, love it! Chris thank you so much for putting this beautiful and amazing music out in the world! The light of Christ is shining brightly through you and your music!

Hischild said...

Emily,
Me too!! I was nearly late for work today because I couldn't pull myself away from the pc to go get ready!!
These songs are WONDERFUL! They inspire me to love more, be less judgemental and write an epic record review!! ha ha
The man has found his NICHE!

One question: Will this be out in time to garner Dove nominations for 2011?? I hear they are in Atlanta this year because of the flood damage to the Grand Ole Opry.
If so, I gotta make some travel plans! i.e (save some pennies somehow.)

Hischild said...

Now I can't quit listening and go to bed. So sleepy...

Chris, is there any chance you could give us a song by song background story here like you did for TACOSB? I am fascinated by them all!

Hischild said...

Whoops, meant to say "on RBTY". I really shouldn't try to communicate that late at night. :o)

Amy's Purple Poodles said...

Carmen-I sure am enjoying HCG and OYCS. Now I'm off to find that FB fan page so I can listen to the whole album!

I can't wait to get my CD, shirt and poster in the mail-the side of the poster with Chris' picture is hillarious!

Amy,
Just click on the first square under the song title. It should have a triangle pointing to the right. That means "play". :o) Enjoy!

Amy,
Hoping you were able to figure out how to play the songs on Facebook. I am posting a link to an article about Dorothy Savage and the release of her new song Finder of the Lost which was written by Chris. Thought all of you might enjoy.

risalea said...

Nice report, Em, and sounds like y'all had a great time. As I commented, I think that was worth missing out on chauffering Phil! LOL

Mid 90's--here, we call that a cold front. ; )

EmilyBoo said...

Haha Risa, as I've said before, it's a good thing I don't live there then! I'd be happy if it was about 80b all summer.

EmilyBoo said...

80b? Don't know where the b came from... it was just supposed to be 80.

rosalee said...

Emilyboo -
I'm glad you had a good time - nice recap and pics. I'm sure there will be another opportunity to see Phil.

On the airplay charts (as compiled by Mediabase),"Only You Can Save" hits the top 30 in CAC, jumping from #33 last week to #26 this week!

My next door neighbor played a gig in a restaurant/bar,(Eleanor Rigby's) the other night and gave Chris 2 shoutouts during his sets because I was there. I thought that was nice of him to do. Now maybe some of those people will buy his album.

risalea said...

I saw those numbers on mj's this morning. How fantastic! Is it just me, or does this single seem like it is moving up the charts faster. It's a deep and thought-provoking song, plus it seems Word is doing a much better promoting job. Yay!

Chris, a good while back, you said you were supposed to be on Huckabee's show when the new record came out. Is that still a go? If so, don't forget to remind him that someone left a copy of RBTY in his NLR mailbox after it came out. I understand he and Janet have taken up FL residence now.

rosalee said...

Risa -
It took "Empty Me" close to 6 months to reach the #7 spot in the CAC airplay charts. I'm not sure if that's by Billboard or Mediabase standards. "Empty Me" also started off at a strong pace. Since we don't have the historical website news to go through, I reviewed the old blogs looking for milestones on the charts. This is what I found:

2/22/08 - "Empty Me" is released
3/04/08 - "Empty Me" at #44 (up from #105)(Mediabase)
3/17/08 - "Empty Me" at #29 (Billboard)
4/27/08 - "Empty Me" stalled at #19
7/21/08 - "Empty Me" at #9 (top 10)
8/14/08 - "Empty Me" drops back from #7 to #8

I also found Chris's explanation about radio station testing and adding songs. They test for 6-8 weeks before putting a song into heavy rotation. I guess that explains tha lack of activity for "Only You Can Save" on yes.com.

We'll have to watch the weekly stats and see how OYCS performs in comparison to EM.

Becca said...

Hi! I actually just started listening to your music lately. I got your first cd like two months ago, and I just wanted to encourage you by saying that your songs and very encouraging to me! It's great to have someone sing about the Lord like you do! Thanks so much! If you have time, check out my blog. Hey guys....tickets are on sale for Chris and Downhere at Peachtree City, GA.....here's the link:

http://www.amphitheater.org/

Unfortunately for me I'm gonna have to miss it...major bummer....but stuff happens.

Hope everyone is having a fabulous weekend!

risalea said...

I am so bummed that there's not a show where we can all meet up. I just can't make the GA trip, but if anyone wants to meet me in Texarkana, TX (just over the AR border) on Nov. 4th, holler!

And got any info on the Las Vegas date in January? Is that for the public, Chris?

Cathy Storms said...

I know Risa, I am so bummed that I can't make it. Texarcana is still to far for me. Las Vegas is certainly do able for me and Audra is already on board with it.
Chris as soon as you know if this is a go or not, please let me know.
Or any shows closer to us here in So. Calif? Please, please....

Carmen said...

Just saw that Only You Can Save is now at 23 on the charts. Hope it keeps moving up.

Chris how long is your set for next Saturday in GA? I am thinking of making the 7 hour drive but would really like to know how much time you will be playing. Also are the rest of the boys coming with you?

EmilyBoo said...

Carmen, I didn't know Chris would be in GA this weekend, which led me to wonder (again,) if there is ANY website that has accurate tour dates. itickets.com, which I have found to show more dates than other sites in the past, did not list this week's GA date, which I did find on the Greg Oliver Agency site. However, on itickets, I found an October 3 date in Ohio for the Downhere/Sligh tour, and that date is not listed on the GOA site. I'm so confused. But hoping that the Ohio info is accurate.

At any rate, since it looks like most of the girls will not be able to come to Peachtree City (bummer!) I think I may try for the Ohio concert instead (though it's in the absolute farthest reaches of Ohio from me, still a lot closer than Georgia!) With this shorter trip, maybe I can still try to come down to Nashville in November!

EmilyBoo said...

Re: Ohio... well, obviously SOMEbody has misinformation, (and I'm HOPING it's not itickets!)I found a lisitng on Downhere's facebook page that shows the Ohio show on October 6. A nearly six hour drive (one way) on a Wednesday during the school year will not work for me. :(

DJ in AL said...

Happy Tuesday! I don't normally dig Tuesdays but I having a particularly good one this week! LOL!

Had a very fun dinner visit with the charming Fro himself last night! He's in B'ham fliming October Baby so how crazy lucky was that for me? Considering how horrible my "timing" tends to be I feel extremely blessed!

Took 2 star-struck friends with me who are now officially enchanted by the Fro! So cool to relive those first "OMG it's Chris Sligh" moment, LOL!

And as a cherry on top getting to listen to him right now on WDJC for an hour where he is "killing" it!

Had a rough week last week so feeling like this week has already been made!

Sending love to the Fro, the Fro Patro, my dear Blogger Girls and all from an extremely happy DJ in AL!~

EmilyBoo said...

DJ, how fun for you! Glad you had a great time.

So I'm pretty sure the Ohio date I have been talking about is Oct. 6th, not 3rd. And that Chris won't be there. So, I still going to try for Peachtree City.

Carmen said...

Emily,
I have found that the Greg Oliver Agency to be more accurate as far as dates are concerned. I think why Chris is missing from some of the Downhere tour dates in October is because of the new little Sligh who is suppose to make her arrival that month.

Do you do a goggle alert for Chris? A lot of times I find out info that way.

I will defintely be at the Peachtree City concert. My hubby is flying into Atlanta for the concert. We will be celebrating my birthday plus our 25th anniversary (it is the Wednesday before the concert) I already purchased my tickets and made my hotel reservations. I hope that Peachtree City works out for you.

I am still up in the air about this coming Saturday as I am not sure how long Chris's set is going to be.

Hischild said...

FINALLY, heard Only You Can Save on radio! Yay!! Nearly choked on the plum I was eating driving down the interstate!
Good times. :o)

btw cathy are you on my face book page

EmilyBoo said...

I just set up a google alert for "Chris Sligh Michigan" and I found out there's a guy named Chris Sligh on staff at Western Michigan University.

I also just found a tour date for next Thursday, (I found it at Word, it was not listed at Greg Oliver,) Chris Sligh and Chris August in Columbia City, Indiana... not toooo far. (Itickets says Chris Sligh and Mikeschair in Fort Wayne for the same day. REALLY wish I knew which listings were most reliable. Is it all three of them?)

If only my kids' private school waited to start until after labor day, like the rest of Michigan!!! (Trust, this is the only time I'll wish that.) Assuming any of this info is correct.

risalea said...

Oh, this finding the dates thing can be challenging! ; ) The website Emily referred to is:
http://www.wordlabelgroup.com/tour

rosalee said...

Emilyboo -

The Columbia City, Indiana date should be correct for Sept. 2nd. I am posting the tour dates on Chrissligh.com, but it is not live yet. When it goes live sometime next month, it will have the combined tour dates from The Greg Oliver Agency, Word, and possibly other sources.

EmilyBoo said...

Thanks, Rosalee!

Hey Chris, remember when Lori and I were campaigning for a tour date in Fort Wayne? It was supposed to be in July, not September! ;) It looks like neither of us will be able to come. Probably.

Carmen said...

Emily,
I also found another tour date for September 18 in Augusta, GA. Chris is playing with Chris August. I contacted the radio station about tickets and they are sending me two. That concert is not listed on GOA, Word, or Itickets. I just happend to find it cause of my google alert. Like you I am confused at all the misinformation about tour dates that are out there. It makes it hard to plan anything. Hopefully when Chris's website goes active things will be better.

Are you still going to try to make Peachtree City??

rosalee said...

Carmen -
Chris is also participating in the Morning Worship Service at the same venue (Stevens Creek Church) on Sept. 19th.

risalea said...

Yay, Rosalee, I'm glad to hear you are still going to be working on Chris's site!

EmilyBoo said...

Carmen,
I really don't think we're going to be able to swing it. It's too long of a drive for just a one day thing, especially during the school year. I will have to wait it out until the next time Chris is closer (If I don't miss seeing the concert dates! I feel better knowing that Rosalee is on it!) Or until something comes up during a school break...

Carmen said...

So Rosalee, do you know what the scoop is on the Night of Joy in Orlando? I know it was listed on the site but when I checked Disney's site, Chris is not one of the artists listed as performing. Just curious as Disney is very close for me plus I have a season pass.

risalea said...

Somebody setting up Chris's tour dates needs to show Arkansas some love. #justsayin

rosalee said...

Risa -
I'm just the messenger - lol

Carmen -
Chris is listed under the "Youth Leaders" tab for 9/10 and 9/11 - not under the Fri. or Sat. Lineup tabs:

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/magic-kingdom/special-events/night-of-joy/youth-leaders/

I will double check about those entries.

risalea said...

I promise not to kill the messenger, Rosalee! ;

Hope you guys have an awesome week ahead! I am slowly losing my mind here in Arkansas trying to keep up with work, put together wedding details, get out a sustainer mailing for JL and lose 20 lbs. before 11-13. Typical day in the neighborhood. ; )

Y'all have a good one! Risa

Cathy Storms said...

bmorebamma, don't think I am on your facebook. Find me as either Cathy Storms or Seestorms and I will look for you also.

Hi Chris, and everyone,
I don't tweet, but I know Chris asked for stories, so I'm posting mine here.

My babymaker was broken, though I wasn't aware at the time that the problem was mine; my dh (former) and I weren't having any luck getting pregnant, so we decided to become foster parents while waiting for our own bundle of joy.

Our first two foster babies ended up becoming permanent members of our family when the parents for each one signed relinquishment papers. If you were at the Fro Patro' Picnic in July 2009, you met them - Barron and Jasmine, now 18 and nearly 18. :-)

risalea said...

Happy Labor Day, friends! And Chris, it's time to post another blog. You can call it "Way Too Long, pt.2" since it's been almost 2 months! ; )

But not today....enjoy this absolutely gorgeous day with Miss Sarah!

robyn said...

Hey Bloggers! Thanks you so much for all your prayers!
They ended up putting in a second stint in the other 100% blocked artery. They moved Rusty out of ICU on Saturday afternoon and into a regular room. He will have to have another one placed in the 90% blocked artery in 30 days after he gets strong enough. He went home on Sunday.
Everything went well, from the moment he started feeling chest pains, until he got to the hospital. He started walking the dog and only got about 1/2 block away and turned around and went back home. They called 911 right away and the ambulance got there in under 10 min. and started working on him and gave him nitroglicerine and he got to the hosp very quickly and went straight to the "cath lab" ...anyway God was looking after him! He could've been a goner easily. He must have more to do here on earth! He's in great shape & takes vitamins and all that...now he just has to stop eating hamburgers and fried food all the time!
Thanks again for all the good thoughts and prayers!

Being a foster parent can be very rewarding. My brother and sister-in-law have acted as foster parents to many disabled and abandoned children over the years. They even adopted a Down Syndrome boy and girl and an emotionally abused little girl. This was in addition to raising their own three children. They enjoy this way of life very much.

I saw on the tour dates that Chris is supposed to be at Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem, NC today (9-15). I can't find out anything else about it and now the date has been eliminated from the list. Is that because it's happening today and they are dropped off the day of? Or is it not happening in Winston at all? I was going to drive up there when I get off work...
If any of ya'll see this and can tell me, please do! I sure hope it's still going on!

So, went over to chrissligh.com and tried to post and just didn't do it. It still felt....not the same. I'm sure I'll get over that, but this still feels like home.

Exciting drop day...twitter was a'tweetin' like crazy!

OK, was going to do a review this morning, running too late, so will do an after school program today instead and work on this mound of paperwork I can't seem to dig through. Sigh. I need a new job. Chris, I'm totally open to the job of Merch Manager. Think about it. ; )

Hi-- it's September 15th. Just saying.

BTW, for all you peoples who were interested in the flood damage, in Nashville? At ShOpryland Mall, only BassPro has renovated and is readying for re-Opening. The Mall was only offered a quarter of what they feel the insurance should have been, and so they are probably not going to reopen at all.

Gaylord is almost ready for re-opening, so that will be alright... but it looks like that area is going to get a major facelift, and new direction in life.*sigh*

Hey Robyn - did you get to this concert?

I was just thinking about how tomorrow is 1 month until Keira's arrival (if she comes on her due date), and how much Chris and Sarah's lives are about to change. It's not something you can even imagine till it actually happens, and no one can tell you about it...you have to experience it. And pretty soon, you don't even remember what your life was like before kids. And that's ok. It's the start of a wondrous time.

Off to NLC to hear Priscilla Shirer. Gonna get my praise on and hope to visit with Katy and Kim Allen and get a chance to give them copies of TAOB. Have a great weekend, friends!

Here's Chris singing "One" in Columbia, MD on 9/17/10:

Yesterday I went to my local Target, but they were all out of TAOB, so I had to order online at Target.com. Luckily, the shipping charge was reasonable. I should have my order in a few days.

I read the liner notes on my preorder copy and was disappointed that Jon Skaggs (drums) and Tommy Lee (bass) were absent from the list of musicians, although Jon did co-write one song.

Rosalee,
Yes, I noticed that too. I believe Tommy tweeted about it a few days ago. Bad editor. It's as if the album has no drums or bass. Clearly not the case.

Like everyone else, I refuse to leave this blog until Chris officially closes it down!

I got my Chris Sligh pre-order stuff on Wed. The CD is awesome. I love listening to it. My poster was a little wrinkly, so I have put it on a table with heavy books on top of it to try and flatten it out.

Just trying to get used to being back home after being gone for 3 weeks. I had an awesome time, but I was glad to be back in my own bed!

Is anyone else having trouble opening anything on Chris' new website? No matter what I click on, it doesn't open. I can't view the blog, register-Nothing?! Then when I try to return to my home page it just freezes up and I have to log off the internet and log back on to do anything else.

Amy,
I haven't had any trouble with the new website, other than the fact that I can't upload a profile picture, although that must be the case across the board since everyone is just a gray square. I think it would start to feel a BIT more like home if we could see each other's faces.
My poster was not only wrinkled, there is a big white area on the Chris side, where the CD pressed and rubbed against it, which wore almost all the way through into a hole. :(

Is it possible we might get a blog this week? If you have time? And kind of give us some guidance on what is going to happen here vs. the new website. Thanks, friend.

Can't. Stop. Listening. To. TAOB! SO GOOD.

Gave a copy to my choir director last week at practice. And was NOT gonna ask him about it last night. Didn't need to. He came up to me and said: "I'm really enjoying that CD. I did not realize his voice was SO pure. And the theme of the CD is heavy/good for the church today."

Seeing that he is the Minister of Music of my "mega-church" I'm hoping it could work into a future appearance out here down the road.
Doing my bit to promote the FroMan (soon-to-be FroDaddy)!
