The End of an Era

Well, my friends. It is a sad day. Not really, in the grand scheme of things, but for those of us who have had so much fun on this blog, it is kinda sad. It's the end of an era. But a songwriter once wrote: the end's the beginning not the end.

I am closing down shop on this blog. It will stay up (at least for a good long while) but I am finding the idea of dedicating myself to the blog to be not as important as it was a few years ago.

I will still be blogging over at chrissligh.com, but I imagine most of the posts will be more direct and to the point. Though, knowing me I'm sure that at some point I'm gonna want to weigh in on some issue that will get a bunch people's undies twisted. Anyway...make sure you get a username over there and let's take our community over there. We have something special and I want many more people to join in our little community. We just need it all to be centralized over at chrissligh.com!

I, of course, will be on twitter constantly. That is the best way to communicate directly with me. I love that about twitter!

We had some good times here. Great times, actually. We got to know each other. We met a lot of anonymous idiots! We laughed. I cried (maybe you did, too)

But all good things come to an end.

So here's to this era.

Now let's toast the next era!

Dang it!

I leave here reluctantly but I vow to enter the new blog w/a smile in my font.

Here's to transition and new beginnings. *sniff, sniff*

Thanks SO much, Chris, for allowing us to get to know you here the past few years. In the process, we've made some lifelong friendships and had a ton of fun.

God bless you and your sweet little family. Praying for the three of you in the exciting few days ahead of you.

Wow, bummer. I don't know what else to say. Thanks for the farewell post. Closure, and all that. I do hope that the new website will become as much of a family as this has been.
Chris, I want you to know that you, your family, and all of my blogger friends (girls and guys,) are in my prayers daily. Love you all!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

You're breaking up with us? I'll be back when I get a grip on myself.

I wrote my first blog post here on March 31, 2007. This one will probably be my last here. Both this blog and Chris-Sligh.info (the original fansite) set the foundation of what was to come - forging many friendships in the process. Both websites will be missed.

Chris, thank you for sharing your life with us here. Your blog posts gave us insight into your life and also into the music business, itself. Your uninhibited writing style has been a joy to read. Thanks, again for the trip. Here's to the journey continuing over at chrissligh.com.

I have to admit it is sad. Thank you so much for letting us into your's and Sarah's life and getting to know you. It has truly been a blessing in my life. All of the friends I have made through you and your blog have been amazing. We have all been through so much together and have really become a family.
I look forward to the future and all the amazing things that will happen in your life.

I do hope that the new blog becomes just as much as a family as this one has.

So it's off to a new world at chrissligh.com. I know it will be just as awesome as this one has been.

Oh, I almost forgot...

We are still the "Blogger Girls" right?

EmilyBoo said...

Cathy, I think that title is pretty set in stone now. Or paper, as it were.

But, but, but...I just got started bonding with all these gals.

Oh, well, I suppose I can take my bonding to the other site just as well as I can here. It has been a blessing getting to know all of you, even if I don't chime in a lot, I still read and I like hearing about the goings on in your lives.

Definitely good times on this blog! I'm waiting for Risa to freak out. :)

We've always appreciated how transparent you are with us, Chris. You created a great community here - and it's just moving to a new home, that's all :).

I've always felt lucky to be a fan of someone who not only values the support of their fans, but actively finds ways to reach out and connect with them. Thanks for that!

I've known this was coming, especially since it's been THREE MONTHS since Chris's last post here. Not that I've been counting or anything. ;)

I feel like crying, but since I am in a class and would have to explain to the teacher and endure the questions of "why are you crying" from a bunch of 4 year olds, I guess I'll try to restrain myself.

Twitter is great, but it doesn't lend itself to the development of relationships where you really feel like you get to know folks because it's just hard in 140. So we've got to make an extra effort to get over to chrisslugh.com and interact. I guess what feels different to me is it feels more, I don't know, exposed? Which is stupid I know, since obviously anyone can view what we put here, but I hope we still feel comfortable posting prayer requests and sharing there as we've done here.

With a new baby girl, you'll have less time and it makes sense to consolidate. My brain knows it, but it's gonna take my heart a little time to catch up.

Love, Risa

OK, that last post sounded sadder than I meant it to. I know we'll continue the party cause a party is all about who's there. Love to all!

I knew this was coming too and I have to admit I am sad to let it go and I will miss seeing the icon on my desktop and the thrill I used to get from reading it daily. I have made awesome friends and had a lot of laughs here, I have been with this blog longer than one of my children and I will miss it. I love you all and thanks Chris for the bringing us all together. Everything happens for a reason and Ain't God Great? Take care all and with heavy heart... I will too go over to chrissligh.com but I won't like it. LOL

I couldn't agree more with the sentiments that all of you have expressed. This blog has come to mean so much to each of us. It is the place where we all first met and got to know one another as more than just Chris Sligh fans. It has been the place where we have shared each others burdens and joys. We have prayed for one another here, offered advice (solicted and unsolicted) and given each other encouragement. We have openly praised God and questioned those people who temporarily visited just to spread hate. This blog has allowed people from different places and of different faiths to connect with one another that might not have ever happened otherwise. Once I got to know everyone here, I have often thought that a more apprpriate name for the blog would have been "From My Mind To Your Eyes To Our Hearts" because that is what this blog has done-- touched all of our hearts.

I understand the need for moving everything over to chrissligh.com. The one thing you can always count on in life is that nothing ever stays the same. My hope is that the new site will offer the same warmth & intimatcy as this one. (something that Twitter just does not do) Finally getting pictures with our profiles is a good start.

Thanks Chris for bringing all of us together and letting us be a small part of your world. It has been great. Looking forward with anticipation to a new dawn and era over at chrissligh.com.

Well Carmen said what I'm feeling better than I could say it myself and ya'll know how I love to talk. So as for me....what she said!

It is with a heavy heart and a not-so-open mind that I say good bye to this amazing blog and promise to embrace the new site.
Really at the end of the day, it doesn't matter where we gather...as long as we gather:)

Sending love and devotion to the Fro and his sweet family, to my beloved Blogger Girls and to all my Fro Patro buddies. Love ya'll...each and every one.

I am just sitting here in tears. For over two years now I have had this blog on my favorites bar and now I have to say good-bye. This is so hard. I knew this was coming-but it is still hard to adjust to.

Chris-Thank you so much for starting this blog and bringing us together as a community. Thank you for sharing your life with us and giving us a glimpse into the music business. I have had some unforgettable times in my life thanks to this blog. I will miss coming here and reading your blogs and everyone's comments. I wish only the best for you, Sarah, and your new daughter Keira.

As of right now, I cannot access anything on the new website. Like everyone else, I will not go easily. Right now I can't even register or check the blog, tour dates, etc. If anyone knows why this is happening and has any suggestions that can help me out, please let me know.

While Twitter is good for finding out what is going on with a person's life, it does not nurture a warm, caring community. I hope that everyone tries as hard as they can to stay in touch and keep our community going over at the new website (since I cannot access it, I'll have to keep in touch with e-mail, phone calls, good old-fashioned letter writing and FB.

I will miss this place. LONG LIVE THE FRO LONG LIVE THE FRO PATRO LONG LIVE THE BLOGGER GIRLS..AND LONG LIVE POODLES-PURPLE OR ANY OTHER COLOR

I've never written a post before that was so long I couldn't finish it! Anyway, so long for now. I'll see you on the flip side. Thanks for the ride-it's been great. I love you all!

Always,
Amy

Phooey. Dittos on what everyone else said. I will miss this blog. I don't do twitter. I'm one of those weirdos who just wants my phone to be a phone and not a camera, game device, computer, or tweet-receiver.

I told sis Cindy, that Chris was closing down this blog and she was like, "What?! The blog where you all met? I held it in till then. But, I'm keeping up my MO and have already multi-posted under one blog over there. ;)

And Happy Birthday, Emilyboo! I figured one more birthday shoutout here was needed.

Thanks Risa! :D

OK, I know I'm crazy, but does anyone else here feel the need to copy the blog before it's all gone? I love on occcasion, going back and reading the comments and seeing how Chris's life and our friendships all evolved. Sigh. I think I'm feeling overly nostalgic because my baby is getting married in a month. Just ignore me. ; )

DJ in AL said...

Risa yes, if there is a way to do please tell me how.

EmilyBoo said...

I feel that way, too, Risa! I keep thinking, man, I hope he doesn't delete the blog!!

DJ, I have no idea what the easiest way would be, but I have a friend at my other blog (live journal,) who decided she wanted to print up her blog (as well as all comments,) so that she would have it in case anything ever happened to the website or her account. She copied and pasted it all into a word processing program. It was a painstaking process that took her several months. There has to be an easier way, but I don't know what it would be.

risalea said...

When I said I hoped we could post prayer requests on the other blog, I didn't know it would be needed so soon. I've chosen to come here, because it just didn't belong under the current blog Chris has up.

Some of our very best friends in the world, Dave and Cindy, lost their 22 year old son today. He was found dead in his apartment by a friend. Nothing is known and won't be until an autopsy can be done on Monday.

I had Allen in Kindergarten, and I am heartsick. That's where I first met Cindy. Going to their house today was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Please keep them and their HS aged daughter in your prayers.

I appreciate you, friends. Risa

DJ in AL said...

I'm so sorry for your friends Risa and so glad they have you to comfort them.

Sending prayers your/their way.

Love ya,

Deb

Hi Chris & The Wonderful Usual Suspects,
Just skimmed this quickly but gather Chris and Sarah did have a baby girl. Mazel tov! Such joy to experience.
Sorry to see this blog close, but I have to admit I've been slipping away. Busy life plus over 4 months of renovations ( the true test of a marriage :) ) had me preoccupied.
Do want to say that I think you Blogger Girls rock. It has been a privledge to read you all. GDA as head Blogger Guy also. Warmest regards. Shalom

Shalom,
no, the baby is not born yet! She was due yesterday, but they're still waiting.

Shalom -
Please join us over at chrissligh.com. There is a blog section there, too. We just have to move over there. Also, you can find us on Twitter. I'm RosaleeNY over there. Most of the user names have stayed the same (seestorms, risalea, debjinal, gdahimself, etc.). We look forward to seeing you there.
