Just bought Kelly's new album.

Well heck if I'm gonna cease to be relevant! Wonder if Kelly knows what a huge compliment it is for Chris to tell us to go buy her album?

Cease to be relevant AND have Cathy Storms hurl things at me all the way from CA? Not me, I'm purchasing NOW!

Chris, I just listened to it via lala.com. I thought it was excellent. I am going to purchase it to further critique it.

A question...Is it better then U2s release this week?

Oh, guys, be sure you go to the fansite (www.chris-sligh.info) and look at the article Rosalee has linked with some thoughts on Chris for song and new artist of the year for the Doves. I thought there were some very supportive comments there!

I will take a listen to Kelly's new album momentarily.

I haven't commented in about a week and probably missed some things. Was there a discussion about the Here Comes Goodbye video? I don't quite get it... after reading the comments on the youtube video and watching a couple times, I can see that the blond woman (Charlotte from Private Practice,) has lost her son and then her father. I'm just kind of trying to figure out who's supposed to be the "narrator" of the song... her mother, I guess. After much thought, the video comes close to making sense with the words of the song, but not quite, in my opinion.

My friend Melinda and her boys, who lost their husband and father last week are still in need of prayers! Thanks!

Cathy Storms said...

Emilyboo~of course I'll keep your friends in my prayers..

Don't forget, Kelly is on American Idol tonight. whoohoo!!

And as Risa says, don't forget to vote and text for Chris. Tell all your friends, family anyone who will listen....

Emilyboo -
There's a discussion of the "Here Comes Goodbye" video in Chris's March 5th blog. I guess the identity of the "narrator" in the video is open to interpretation, just like the rest of the song. Since the video focused on the father, and the song was being sung by a male, I assumed it was the father, sometimes talking in the third person ("with her daddy by her side").

Kelly Clarkson's album sounds pretty good for the handful of songs that I've heard. I'll be watching for her tonight on American Idol.

I never *have* been relevant, so I guess I'll be alright. :-)

The song on the radio by her is actually smartly-written, kind of quirky! I like it.

re Here Come Goodbye-- I played the Sligh YouTube version for my folks, who never listen to the radio at all, and my mom (AGAIN) commented on what a great voice Chris has.:-) I agreed, of course!

I hear the RascallFlatts version at work several times a night, but I'm still not tired of it. It puts it's finger very neatly to different feelings, and I think people find something in it to relate to.
(a song I feel similarly about is Kenny Chesney's "There Goes My Life". It still can make me cry.)

Risa,
Thanks for pointing out the article on the fansite. Was a very good read. Makes me really excited for the Doves all over again.

Did ya see next week on AI is Grand Ole Opry week? Don't know about most of these contestants doing country (Adam? Allison?)but just the mere mention of the place brought a smile because of the trip. Hurry up April!

Wierd, my word verification for this post is risarcar! Ha!

Clearsa, if Adam is able to convincingly sing (and perform believably) a country song, I might have to change my mind about him. Or not. Now if they have Broadway week, well, that's a 'nother story....

Enjoyed Kelly C. last night.

This one time save thing is interesting. Adds a little to the mix.

Clearsa, I am looking forward to the Doves, too. Actually told Gaylon last night I was going (had to ease into that one-LOL), but I guess now I've got him so used to the girls going on road trips to Chris's gigs, he didn't say not one word...just agreed we got a good deal on the condo! risarcar? How funny and so apropos!

OK, off to finish reviews done the last two days. Maybe it's warmer in Utica, NY, Chris, than it is here. 80 degrees on Tuesday, in the low 30's today, and it was definitely colder and windier when I left the center I was at this afternoon than when I went in this morning. Spring gave us a teaser and made a quick retreat. Ah, such is March!

I really enjoyed Kelly Clarkson last night. Can't wait for her tour...

They mentioned on idol last night that past idols will perform every week. If they were smart, they would have Chris and the band on. Now that would rock!!

POSTING LINKS IN A YOUTUBE VIDEO DESCRIPTION: I had suggested a few days ago to put the link to the doves voting in your description on any Sligh videos you have up on youtube. I kept having trouble with mine...an extra space would appear. I've found out you need to put http://www.gospelmusicchannel.com/dovesvoting, with the http out front and it will make a clickable link, and not just the www....OK, off to finish work and head to a ladies retreat with my daughter, Linds. Take care folks and have a great weekend! Risa

Cathy Storms said...

Chris~I read about your fall tour. Sounds pretty cool..
Is there a California date in that tour somewhere? Please...Please...

risalea said...

PICNIC! PICNIC! We are hoping that many of you are making your plans to come to Nashville July 4th weekend. You can find all the details at www.fropatropicnic.webs.com and you can click "the picnic website" on Chris's links on the side of the blog and get there as well. This is a fundraiser for St. Jude as well as a great opportunity to visit with Chris (and each other!) I hope that we'll have folks from last year, as well as new faces. Tell your friends...all are welcome. We had an absolute blast last year, so plan on joining us in 2009! Shoot us an email at fropatropicnic@yahoo.com and let us know if you are thinking about coming or if you have any questions we can answer.

Adam made a huge mistake. If you are going to do Johnny Cash you don't change it up so much as to polarize the rest of the nation. Even with the theatrics,.... they are trying still trying to make their mind up about him because of his obvious talent. It would have been better to play it straighter so to speak...

rosalee said...

The trend this year on American Idol is to heartily approve of any contestant who puts his own spin on a song. Then he is "being true to himself". However, when Chris performed his own arrangement of "Endless Love" in 2007, he was trashed for it. I wish that this year's philosophy had been around then. However sometimes, like Randy says, it is better to stay true to the original song. I'm sure that while some people liked Adam's arrangement, others hated it. According to DialIdol.com, from that performance, Adam Lambert has fallen into the middle of the pack instead of being a frontrunner.

It would be interesting for someone to make a youtube clip of the inconsistencies of the judges' comments that are made from year to year, even week to week in some cases. Hey, at least Simon called it for what it was last night. I also thought, what a contrast between Lil saying she wanted to show respect for the genre, but not trying for an R and B spin on her song, and then what Adam did.

Carmen said...

Rosalee,,
I agree with you totally. It seems that last year the judges were also big on making the song your own. They constantly praised David Cook for making songs his own. Now don't get me wrong, I loved what David did with the songs he performed but like you I kept thinking about how they trashed Chris on his arrangement of Endless Love. Which I happpen to like better than the original.
I personally did not like Adam's take on Ring of Fire. Though he does have a lot of talent he just seems too over the top for me IMHO.
I wouldn't be surprised if he gets voted off this week.
