Empty Me to Arise

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Empty Me finally fell.  Back to #8.

Hey, it had an incredible run, but great songs coming up the charts and the fact that I've been on for almost 6 months takes it's toll.

However, I am proud to announce that, though "Arise" has gone to CHR stations (more rocking stations), it will hit AC (where Empty Me has lived) on August 29!

So, be excited.  One single down....1 to go...after that, let's hope we get 2 more...'cause that'd be great.

Wonderful, Chris! I'd like to see every song on RBTY released as a single. In my opinion they are all good enough to be hits.

I am sad to see Empty Me descend but you are right, there are many great songs coming up the Christian charts. I can't remember a time when I've heard so many good ones. Great new groups out there.

Looking forward to Aug 29th and a whole new ride to the top!

You gotta try to schedule some R & R for you and Sarah. I'm praying you'll have numerous times of refreshing in the near future.

Looking forward to hearing your second single on KLove! Do you think it'll take them as long for Arise as it did for Empty Me?

Woohoo! Seven was a very good number for Empty Me, considering how long it took for many stations to play it. I'm eagerly awaiting hearing arise on the radio! I predict it will go to number 1!

risalea said...

We loved "Empty Me" from the start
Cause it is a song from the heart.
This ride has been fun
For us it is 1
Despite what it says on the chart!

I'm sorry, I promised rhymes, not necessarily good rhymes. : )

Looking forward to Moore! Finishing my office work this AM, then going to bejewel my Chris Sligh shirt. Cause it's not cool to have the very same shirt as thousands of others! LOL

And please, Chris, tell DJ to go to that show in AL or I won't have an excuse for a road trip!

Now on to "ARISE"!!!!

It will be nice to have another single out there in Radioland.

I just put up on the fansite some video of old group numbers from Season 6 (top 24/20/16/12, plus a couple of Finale numbers).

Here's one example:

That's right, Risa -
"JOY to you and me" (LOL)

Thanks to Youtube user, germbowl, for the videos.

Also, Luke is blogging that he will be writing with Chris again and also Jason Walker.

All the best for a quick rise with Arise! I enjoy that one quite a bit, Chris. Hey, have you heard Sanjaya's new ones? (here's one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AAByVxQU8U). I don't know when they'll release, but he had a little mini-concert in Connecticut last week that apparently went very well. Go Chris!! Go Sanjaya!!

rosalee said...

Nice video. Good for Sanjaya!

I was very happy to see those videos because Chris-Sligh.info didn't have those group numbers. Only the solo performances were in the library.

It looks like Chris has got a little "Taylor Hicks" move going on
at the very end of his two lines in "Joy to the World".

Btw, did anyone notice the recent David Cook photo on Rickey.org (Philadelphia recap)?

http://www.rickey.org/?p=8633

Does this remind anybody of anything? I guess this guy really likes putting things in his mouth!

Rosalee,
Great pic. Defintely reminds me of the purse pic. BTW--do you know how I can get a copy of Chris's advice to anyone trying out for Idol? He wrote it on his blog last year but I can't seem to locate it. A friend of mine tried out here in Jacksonville and made it through the first round. I wanted to email her Chris's advice to help her out as she goes to the next round of auditions. It is flipping amazing how many people have tried out here in Jacksonville. Just yesterday there was over 11,000 people in line. They are saying that Jacksonville has had the biggest turnout thus far this summer.

Chris~safe journeys to Oklahoma. I mentioned on Jon's blog that I really need to move closer to Nashville since it looks like you guys aren't bringing your tour to California anytime soon. BooHoo!! Sad face here..Between Audra and I we have more than enough people wanting to go to one of your shows to fill at least part of a venue. My friend Carol who was with me at Lake Arrowhead has told everyone that they have to come see one of your shows. So stomp your feet, scream at someone to get your tour here in California.

rosalee said...

Maybe he'll do Heathenville West (CA), Heathenville East(metro NY) and other urban areas when he gets some mainstream singles out there.

Did anyone notice this photo on MJ's?

Now this is the THIRD photo of DC with something in his mouth in the last week. Am I just noticing this because he did it to my Sligh handbag, or is he perpetuating the joke?

What I think is an interesting quote.

"...if we see art as a general thing (not linked to a specific piece of performance) - it is probable that as long as Man lives and thinks, there will be art along his side. Then art and spectators actually exist in some sort of mutual symbiosis - and this I think is a very nice picture... Ivar Bergset

Oh man do I miss all of you! I'm super busy right now... preparing for another semester of school, hoping to be called for a job interview Monday, seeing Maroon 5 and Counting Crows (!!) on Monday AND I'm currently pledging for a Co-Ed fraternity that is based around scholarship, unity and charity, so it isn't one of those woohoo alcohol and parties!! type of frats, but one with a better cause.

Carrie said...

Oh duh, I forgot the most important thing: CHRIS, Congrats on having a first single reach so high on the charts. That's a great feat. I LOVE Arise, so I have a feeling it will do just as well if not BETTER!!

I hope you can have another show around the upstate NY area someday since I guess the other one was canceled I think? Either way I just want to see "Hands Up" live so if any of you happen to be seeing him perform that anytime soon.... coughyoutubecough. ;)

Cathy Storms said...

Carrie~sounds like you are really busy in a good way. Good luck on the fraternity and the job interview. Lucky you getting to see Maroon 5. I love them..I agree with that anyone getting to see Chris perform Hands Up live need to put it on youtube. I can't wait to see that song performed live also. hint hint...still waiting for that California tour...It's beginning to look like another road trip is in order. I really wanted to go with Risa this weekend, but flying is pretty much out of the question for awhile anyway..

Carrie, girl, I'm going to the same concert at the end of Sept. ...tickets were a fortune, but I had to see them, couldn't believe they were playing B'ham.
Let me know how the concert is.
Hey keeping busy is a good way for you to stay out of trouble!

Hey, guys! I'm back from Moore and had a marvelous time! I had the privilege of meeting Candy and her friend, Melinda, and spending time with them. It has been such a pleasure to meet blogger friends in person this summer!

My friend, Carol, and I got into Moore a little after 5 and went to our hotel. Candy had gotten there before we did, and came down to the room and introduced herself. We all headed to the First Baptist Church a little after 6 to secure our front row seat.

Wow, if there's any way you can get there, you need to catch one of Chris's remaining "Back to School" shows. It was different than Nashville last month, and I told Chris I didn't think I could enjoy a concert more than that one, but this was, well, awesome! He kept a balance of (in his words) "melt your face" songs and "melt your heart" numbers. (see previous blog for set list). "Hands Up" got the crowd in the mood, and the songs just kept coming, one after the other. You definitely get your money's worth and more at Chris's shows!! I was a little worried beforehand how much rocking out we could do in the Baptist sanctuary, as I'm a longtime church of Christ girl, and well, we don't rock out too often in the church auditorium. LOL Every song was a winner, and one in particular I loved was "Broken". I think the part that touched me most was getting to hear Chris talk about his faith throughout the show. He's the real deal, folks. (though I know you know that)

I got tickled towards the end when Chris asked me to stand up and model the "face" t-shirt as he talked about his merchandise. I had done a little "customizing" of mine on the back. (see my avatar). That was the theme I was going with for the evening. : )

I got a chance to meet and visit with Jon Skagg's mom, Lorinda. She is a very sweet lady. I brought AR happies for the band to go with my theme, and Chris was very gracious and visited with us a long time after the show. (thank you, Chris...and in case you haven't figured it out, Carol is the girl that "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" was written for. LOL She's a mess.) Jon was going home for the night to his mom's and Chris was heading to Ponca City for church this morning, at the place where he played tonight. (I'm sure Candy will have details on that tomorrow).

After the show, we went to eat Mexican with Candy and Melinda and ended up having breakfast with them this morning. Breakfast was very interesting, BTW. The little owner of the hotel basically tried to give us a nutrition lesson by letting us know that girls our size didn't need bacon and eggs for breakfast. You will be proud to know that Fro Patro girls can keep their cool even when face to face with, well, the only word I can think of on a family friendly blog is IDIOT! : )

I've posted a few pictures below. Carol brought her new mamajamma professional camera and got some really good shots, and I'll add those in when she emails them to me.

Oh, and one last thing...if you haven't had a chance, be sure and visit the Oklahoma City Memorial. We went by there before leaving town this morning. We were lucky enough to be able to hear one of the rangers tell the story of the memorial and what each element stands for. We didn't get to go in the museum because it didn't open until one. It is absolutely beautiful and extremely moving. What a testimony to this city to see how they were able to take a tragedy and create a wonderful tribute to the human spirit out of such a horrific event.

OK, I'm beat....talk to y'all later! Carrie, have a great semester at school, and GDA, love the quote. Chris, have a wonderful rest of the tour...it was an absolute treat to hear you and the guys this weekend. Take care!

I am excited to hear that arise will be on the radio soon...unfortunatley there are no good christian music stations in eastern NC...only southern gospel...however i listen to klove online everyday at the office...hopefully they will pick it up sooner bc empty me is doing so well...it is there number 10 song right now...and on klove when a song gets to the top 10 they play it forever...so hopefully that will influnce them to play arise when it comes out...

So I met the famous Risa and her friend Carol. What a pair. I am so glad that plans worked out and we were able to meet in Moore. It really was a blast. What wonderful people you are and thanks so much for my gift. I still think that Carol has a great idea "madam president". The Moore show was different from the previous show that I have seen in Oklahoma and a nice change. Chris did a really good job and I was so proud that Risa got special mention during the show and Chris having time to share with us after. The Ponca City show was really great and there were alot of people there even though I was missing you Risa. It was really good. One thing Chris dropped his guitar and people laughed. Not funny. Malinda was asking kinda loudly "Why are you peole laughing that is not funny" But Chris handled it with grace and later made a joke about it. There were alot of young people at the show last night so I did get to see Chris for a minute after the show, long enough for him to talk about my shirt that I had on I had to explain that I was not sure if yesterday was a preseason game day and if I don't wear that Cowboy shirt they lose. I did get a chance to speak to Jon Skaggs for a while, what a treat, he is such a nice guy. I do want to comment real quick that the stage set up for these two shows are different from the last two shows that I had seen. Jon was more up front of the stage and I had never noticed what a good drummer that he is. He is soo awesome and really fun to watch. So sorry this is kinda long but lots of news to report. Take care all.

Candy

P.S. Risa,
I was singing too and I thought we sounded beautiful. I had bacon and eggs this morning on purpose and thought of the experience yesterday morning. LOL

Rosalee,

Remember, Ro*Tel is the official and endorsed dish of the Chris Sligh Blog and The Blogger Girls!

You'll be forgiven, if as a paperweight, it's the can with Chris' likeness on it.

Now if Taylor Pork Roll/Tayltor Ham didn't have a perishble problem...

Cathy Storms said...

Candy~It sounded like you had an awesome time. So, your a cowboy fan? Me to...I wasn't aware they had a preseason game yesterday. Guess I've been a little distracted. I always have to wear my shirt to or they will lose...
glad you got to spend some time with Jon. he is such a sweetie. And you got to spend time with Risa. I know you had fun hanging out with her. Just wait till you get to hang out with all of us. I'm thinking road trip to one of Chris's concerts. CALIFORNIA..hint,hint...

risalea said...

Rosalee, I can beat that...Candy and Melinda had Mexican for lunch on Sat. and then ate it again with us that night. Carol and I were looking for this great Mexican restaurant in Fort Smith on the way home, and missed it, otherwise, we would have had it again as well. So we had to settle for Cracker Barrel. But that was ok, cause I do believe there are going to be Cracker Barrel apple dumplings in heaven. : ) And GDA, it is ok for Rosalee to use the official Chris Sligh picnic Rotel as a paperweight. You know I had to rescue some leftover cans from my husband that mistakenly got put back in the pantry. Some things are sacred! : )

OK, off to Curves to work off Mexican and apple dumplings!

Chris,
What happened to the tour date in Michigan? Oh well, I was most likely not going to be able to make it anyway. Maybe you'll be able to get up here on a different date...

Risa and Candy,
It sounds like great times were had! But I can't believe the nerve of the bacon and eggs person!

Clintster, I had seen something about Lenexa Baptist Church, which is actually in Lenexa, KS and I made a quick call. The secretary said he was appearing at 5 on Sunday, the 24th. You might want to call for more details.

Risalea,

The resistant provider of the bacon and egg breakfast with his winning sales approach must be complimented and encouraged on his continuing education in diplomacy and grace.

By the way how many other patrons were frequenting his place of business that he was able to give you & your party company such special attention?

rosalee said...

Thanks for confirming the Lenexa date, Risa. I had seen that too, but could not find any "corroborating evidence" of it on the Lenexa website. Now I can post the notice on both Sligh websites. I didn't call because I worked up a big bill last winter confirming radio dates across the country. Too bad I wasted time last night eliminating every Baptist church in Kansas City that had a website! LOL. I wish that all venues would post the info on their website. Unfortunately not all of them do.

risalea said...

No prob, Rosalee. I've got siblings in 3 different states, so I have to have that unlimited long distance.

And GDA, to answer your question, how many patrons were out there besides us during breakfast? Zero!

For Such A Time As This said...

What can we do short of calling the local radio station 10x a day to keep you up there. This is a song with some major heart content...

Would love to know your thoughts..

Hey Chris...just wanted to let you know that Empty Me is the story of my life right now, as it is with many others, I'm sure. I appreciate God giving you the words through music to describe the "uncomfortableness" of letting go of ourselves and letting him truly be first. Although I have heard it many times before, right now where I am in my life, it is my prayer. Thank you and God's many blessings on your life.
