Idol Gives Back

Thought you guys would find another opportunity turned down to be interesting!

My schedule is crazy, so it stinks to have to turn down stuff...but I guess it's also good.

I was asked to take part in an Idol Gives Back performance singing bgv's for Snoop Dogg.  Haha...how awesome would it have been to put THAT on a resume'.  Anyway, I would have had to go out Thursday morning and would have taped last night.  Unfortunately, the Braves game was already on the books and we couldn't get a replacement with as little time as we had.  Plus, with just moving into the new house, being gone for 4 days wouldn't have been a good thing for Sarah, so I had to turn it down.

But it woulda been fun to hang out with Snoop!

Oh that would of been awesome!! I'm sorry you missed that one. Maybe next year.

Well crapola! Oh well, understandable!

Man, did you think you'd ever be this busy?

Carrie said...

No offense to Snoop, but you don't need to be doing background vocals for ANYBODY.

rosalee said...

I second that one, Carrie.

"Another opportunity turned down" -I find it both interesting and frustrating!
The TV exposure would certainly have been more beneficial than that Braves game - where the "entertainment" apparently doesn't get broadcast.

Speaking of the new house, have you hung your Peter Max poster yet?
Maybe you can put it in the room with the treadmill!(LOL)

HEY CHRIS,
AS AWESOME AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN... I AM WAITING FOR THEM TO ASK SNOOP TO DO BGV'S FOR YOU. HAHAHHAA NOW THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING. YOU THINK HE MIGHT??

lol, I'm not gonna eat my heart out over this one, Chris. Working opposite David Cross is one thing, but it's hard for me to picture you doing backup with Snoop, even as popular as he is. It would've been fun, though. I'm sure there will be future opps to help out in some way with IGB.

Nique's Nana said...

Your cup runneth over Chris!

HstryQT said...

Now I dont understand why they couldn't have done a hologram Chris Sligh much like they did for Elvis last year? It's not like they haven't done it before! :)

Come on people! hehe.

Carrie said...

Lori, that cracked me up! Also, as usual, cute picture of little Teddy.

I guess part of me is kinda confused as to what made them want Chris to do this? Is Phil going to IGB? Blake? Melinda? Are any other contestants from last year other than Jordin? It just seems so... random to me. Also I don't see Blake going on the show again since he just was on it, but who knows. Of course, it's good that Chris is getting the exposure and is wanted to make appearances all over America, it just seemed REALLY random to me. Also, the idea of someone who sings Christian Pop/Rock singing backup for Snoop is pretty funny, though. Like how they "ghettoed" Chris up on tour to sing "Let's Get it Started." Haha. It was good.

risalea said...

While I would have loved to have seen you on the show---background vocals? Not so much. You're the frontman, dude! (to hijack DJ's word! LOL)

Cathy Storms said...

Just think...Next year when you do IGB, someone can sing background vocals for you...
Although, singing with Snoop Dog would have been pretty cool. All eyes would have been on you instead of Snoop Dog.

risalea said...

Oh, and you earned major husband brownie points for putting your wife first. Just to let you know! You're pretty smart for a young guy! : )

Carmen said...

I second that Risa. Major props Chris for putting Sarah first.
Besides I am in agreement with everyone else, you should always be the front man. Though I could see how you would enjoy the opportunity to with Snoop Dog.

Would the Christian Contemporary Music audience be accepting of anyone who worked with Snoop Doggy Dogg/Snoop Dogg? An artist that doesn’t exactly have a history of traditional Christian values.
I think such a move could have been a career liability at this moment.
The Wikipedia profile: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snoop_Dogg
Chris is probably better served by this non-occurrence.

Independent of the above, time spent helping Sarah was where his first allegiance belonged, praiseworthy.

Aww man that would've been pretty great lol. Atleast you saw a good Braves/Mets game on sunday, they won 3-1. The Braves had a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the 8th tonight and lost, boo! I paid for mlb tv online so I can watch them since they're no longer on tbs.

DJ in AL said...

I totally agree, while Chris woulda probably loved to have met Snoop, what a weird combo!?

GDA where you been dude?

Once again, DJ took the words right out of my mouth. Too wierd. We should be on a psychic reality show. : ) GDA, you have been missed!

Hey Dude -

Now I got to watch to see who they get to take your place for BGV's. Not that I'm an expert on Mr. Dogg's musical library - but not familiar with too many ditty's of his that utilize BGV's. Still standing by my prognostication that this time next year - Chris Sligh will be invited back to perform solo on stage on AI.

Sorry I missed you at the Braves game - Spring break this week and travelin with the wife & kids in FLA. But planning on being in Gville on May 1st -

Hey Tom -

My stepson, Ken, who just relocated to Greenville, will probably be at Wild Wings on May 1st, too. Maybe you'll all get to meet....

risalea said...

Y'all make sure you are going to the fansite. Rosalee does an AWESOME job of keeping everything Chris related up there. The latest is a youtube video of Chris singing "Empty Me" at a wedding. Wow. You can tell how good a song is when it is stripped to its bare elements. Just Chris and the piano. I've heard this song innumerable times in different venues via the radio tour and even once live, and I just absolutely was blown away by this simple version. It really shows the beauty of Chris's voice and the power of the lyrics.

And you are up to #20 on the charts! Go, Chris! It's your birthday! (well, almost!) : )

Take care, friend! (and blogger friends)

Cathy Storms said...

Risa~I so agree with you on the video of Chris singing at the wedding. WOW!!! It was beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes. I made everyone here at work stop what they were doing and come watch it with me.

Nique's Nana said...

To the Fro Patro - unfortunately the cable service (Cox Communications) Cathy Storms and I have does not carry American Idol Extra. Therefore, we will not be able to see/tape the segment with Chris.

I know that Dish Network does show AI Extra. Does anyone have Dish Network, that can maybe tape the show for us?

Phil Stacey was in my hometown! Plus he's going to come back and perform for Hometown Days! I am excited! of course, I'd be even more excited if it were Chris coming to perform for my city's Hometown Days. That would be marvelously awesome!

Idol Gives Back Show:
Who was the guy singing w/Snoop Dog? I missed the introduction. Was that supposed to be Chris? Wasn't really a BGV position. Anyways...I thought who ever it was was pretty good. But still the feelings of "what could have been" were present.
Also didn't get to see the very ending of top 8 singing Shout To The Lord. I don't know how I feel about that. Have loved the song for years and I'm usually all for any type of song sung by the idols that involves the Lord but this kinda seemed like cheapening worship or exploitation. Others have assigned worse, I guess.
Would love to read your thoughts, gang.

Nique's Nana said...

Was Terri Hatcher singing live, or was she lip singing?

risalea said...

I thought that was an interesting song choice considering Chris's comments on the producers' feelings about songs with a Christian overtone. Maybe they've come around (if nothing else, maybe they have seen the commercial success of Christian music!) It didn't bother me...I feel like that gave some folks exposure to a song they might not have heard otherwise.

Terri Hatcher? Live or lip-synched, it's best to leave the singing to the professionals. : ) Oh well, looked like she had fun with it.

Carrie said...

I had no problem with them singing Shout To The Lord, but I knew other people would. I know the show can easily force contestants to change song choices and such, but I highly doubt that they can force them to sing Christian music if they are that much against it. If any of the contestants had such an issue, they could have refused to sing it. I thought it was nice and maybe they were forced to sing it, but I didn't get that feeling from it at all. I love RENT, so when they sung the song from it... Seasons of Love, I thought it was horrendous. But Shout To The Lord was full of so much more emotion and a thousand times better. Also, they edited out any mention of "Jesus" so it wasn't really forcing people to believe any certain thing, just showing that we all have our beliefs.

As for the Snoop Dog thing, I don't see how Chris would have fit into that performance at all, so it was weird to me that they considered him, BUT watching it the whole time I was like... okay, he'd have been better than this guy, anyway.

I know the show was for charity and all, so I'm glad they had the contestants singing and such and didn't focus on the "who is going home just kidding!!" thing this time around. However, I noticed that kids were calling in and hanging up all night trying to get to talk to an "Idol" without even donating, and that makes me sad. All it did was jam the lines for those who wanted to make a legitimate donation. Now the person who said they'd donated $100 to get to talk to David Cook? That was the way to do it. Both sides become satisfied, though I'd like to think that people who donated without talking to a contestant were happy, too, for the cause.

Cathy Storms said...

I loved the "Shout to the Lord" song. I thought iw was filled with so much emotion and it made my heart feel happy.
I thought it would of been cool for Chris to sing with Snoop. I kept thinking, man, I wish that was Chris up there. He would of rocked!!!

Darn that schedule, you finally get a perfect shot at using the pimp suit.....denied!
I can't believe I have to admit that you could actually make a case that Fergie out did Ann Wilson on Barracuda.

Oh man you're all cracking me up. The pimp suit needs to make a comeback since it barely had much use during the tour. Darn them cutting it.

Hey, xangelglitterx, which station is it that you keep hearing Empty Me on? I want to see if I can pick it up in Buffalo because my station barely plays music at all.

Shout To The Lord

Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and Majesty, praise to the King;
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of your hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.

My Jesus, my Savior, Lord, there is none like You;
All of my days I want to praise the wonders of Your mighty love.
My comfort, my shelter, tower of refuge and strength;
Let every breath, all that I am, never cease to worship You.

Chorus
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and Majesty, praise to the King;
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of your hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.

Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and Majesty, praise to the King;
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name.
I sing for joy at the work of your hands,
Forever I'll love You, forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have...
Nothing compares to the promise I have...
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You.

It's a beautiful song. Thanks for putting the words up, GDA. I missed the beginning of that last night, Carrie, but Jesus did not get edited out tonight.

Yeah, Risa. I noticed they left Jesus in tonight! Can't believe they sang it AGAIN tonight! I would LOVE to hear the story behind the selection. I'll probably never know though.

Also, our first real shocker elimination of the season! Michael didn't deserve that.

May I whine a little?? I've always dreamed of going to the GMA Dove Awards. Once again, it just isn't feasible and it looks like this year is gonna be the BEST EVER!!! Chris, Mandisa, Jordin, Phil & Amy Grant singing MWS songs together??? A slice of heaven! Seriously, I couldn't pick 5 other people I'd rather see there. AND it doesn't look like it will be televised in Phoenix area at all. Whaaaa!
Chris, after the fact, could you PLEASE report your GMA experience to us here?? I'd LOVE to hear of all your fun. It would help ease the pain. :o)

Love to all!

It does look like a great show, and there's even an after party. But I'm headed to CA the first of May, and I really don't need to spend the money on two trips that close together. Darn these gas prices! I'm all about a road trip!

Chris, I'm a day early, but anticipating being swamped the next two days trying to finish my taxes (yes, procrastination is my middle name when it comes to that), I hope you have a wonderful birthday filled with family and friends. It's one of those milestone b'days, but don't worry, the best is yet to come! : )

Take care! Risa

It’s time for Rosalee’s Adventures with Ace!

Yesterday, I went to Ace Young’s (American Idol Season 5 finalist) book signing for “Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul”. The event started at 2:00 PM at Borders Books near me in Westbury, NY. Radio station 106.1 WBLI was there. Several hundred fans – almost exclusively young women turned out. First, Ace sang four songs and had a guitarist along to accompany him. He sang an acoustic version of “Addiction” (which will be released this month), followed by “Fast Life” and “Hard Hand to Hold”, all from his upcoming CD, now due out July 15th. He also sang “Father Figure”. He did a very nice job on all songs. He followed this up with a Question and Answer period. If you click on this link, you can get an idea of what I heard:
http://www.mix1051.com/pages/1883691.php?

After the Q&A, he started signing the books. He had no posters or CDs to sell, like Constantine did I guess because of the timing of the release of his CD. He collaborated with Desmond Child (producer/songwriter) on the album. Also, Ace will be appearing on “Bones” (FOX) on May 12th. Check out Ace’s new website:
http://www.acemusic.com/

Bullyse – this part is for you:

While he signed the books, I chatted with Lise Hintze, one of the writers on the book and also with Kevin Covais’s parents. Kevin’s movie, “College” was supposed to be released Apr 11th, but it has now been put off until August. He parents were bemoaning the fact that this is an “R” rated movie, so many of his fans won’t be able to see it. Kevin has an online “splash page”:
http://kevcovais.com/splashpage/

He will be appearing on May 17th at Suffern High School in Suffern, NY. There he will be performing in a concert with former Idols Melissa McGhee, Gina Glocksen, Asia’h Epperson, Ayla Brown, and Brenna Gethers. You can check out Kevin’s fansite:
http://coviesonline.com/

In the middle of the book signing, the fire alarm went off and we were all herded outside. The fire trucks came while Ace signed books in the parking lot. After a while, they let us back in the building. I waited until the very end, so that I could get a few extra minutes chatting with Ace about his career and our birthday boy.

Was thinking about Chris turning thirty and remembered Randy Stonehill's song from way back when.

Found it on YouTube. Well worth investing 5 and half minutes on whether you're in that season of life or someone like me who needs the aid of a rear view mirror to remember and treasure those years.
