I had a bit of a hard time because it kept starting and stopping, but what I heard was wonderful. Thanks for the preview! Now hurry and get this EP available. I'm ready to start listening to my holiday music Thanksgiving afternoon. : )

It took me a few time to get it to work but Chris, this is beautiful.
I've got tears streaming down my face. Yeah, it's that good.
Your voice is beautiful. Thank you for sharing. How soon will the Christmas CD be released?

I love Christmas music and listen to it all year.....

Wow. This has always been a favorite of mine and you sing it beautifully- I love the slightly rough, lower register notes. Thank you for posting this.

I had to pause it and let it fully load before playing it. I finally got to hear the whole song, and it was beautiful! I look forward to being able to purchase it!

Risa, thanks for the birthday wishes!

Tawny, happy birthday!

Wonderful job with this chris! LOVE it. It's fresh and newer, but still true to the song, and respectful. I appreciate that alot.

:-) I think a whole album of Christmas Songs would be terrific. Your voice suits this, for listening.

MoyaMoyaInfo said...

Very nice, love the "vibe" that it gives. Great Christmas music, I haven't bought a Christmas album since Michael W Smith and that was quite a few years ago. But like his, a very fresh and interesting take on the songs!

I am with Cathy Storms on this. I had tears it was so beautiful. Your voice, oh my, I love your voice. Tender, powerful and packed with emotion. I loved it and can't wait for more.

Carrie said...

Very nice! I had to wait for it to load before I could listen to it. I'm in no way ready for Christmas yet but like Cathy said, your voice is beautiful. It's things like this that make me laugh at you not going further on Idol.

I agree with Bette on O Holy Night. It's still my favorite Christmas song haha.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAWNY!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY!

I'm looking forward to listening to this when I get home.
I hope the burn out on most traditional Christmas/Holiday associated music, a result of working retail where they play them endlessly and to death from Thanksgiving to Christmas, doesn't get in the way of enjoying this.

Carianne said...

This is awesome! I really love it!

So you are you releasing a Christmas album then? What other songs are going to be on it? And like Cathy asked, how soon will it be released?

chamilton said...

I didn't like this at all.....

Ha Ha Ha!!!!! Made your mouth drop. No really I love this and it makes me want to go Christmas shopping then I remenber it is 80 degrees outside so that kind of sucks the fun out it. But really, really awesome. I can't wait for it to be released. Take care all.

Chris,
I hope you're all over your heebie-jeebies.

And happy birthday, ladies!

Happy Birthday Tawny & Emilyboo. Sending you warm birthday wishes from Florida.

Chris really do love what you did with this song. This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I am hoping that you get that Christmas EP done soon.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Loved them. Kept waiting for you to open up on "What Child" and my wait was rewarded. When you come home again is wonderful. Started out thinking about Sarah and you and in the end started thinking about the troops. People who do jobs such as yours and the troops volunteer to be selfless enough to give their God given talents to others who need it. I too have been away from those I loved at Christmas and the greatest gift I could give was to bring Christmas to where I was at. By giving my talents, time, and love to the people and places where my responsibilities took me. Close family is best of course but we are all family. Strangely enough whether at home or abroad I always end up at the kids table.

risalea said...

Crud, please don't take the songs down before Sunday night-I haven't heard the second one and I'm in Branson. I ran out of the house and left my darn laptop on the dining room table!

chamilton said...

Hey Randy,
The kids table is the best place to be !!!!! Risa, I hope you have fun in Branson and safe travels to you. And Happy late birthday Ladies!!! Good morning everybody have a great day.

When You Come Home Again is beautiful and very touching.
I hope this Christmas CD comes out soon.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It's putting me in the Christmas spirit already (that's a good thing).

Cathy Storms said...

Thinking about that song, it's a good thing I don't have anyone over in Iraq right now, because again, I'd be crying like a baby all day.
Your songs touch a cord deep down in people's soul and that is such a blessing.

Randy~The kid's table is the place to be!!!Especially at Christmas.

Risa~safe journey's girlfriend. Don't get into to much trouble. lol....

So somehow I missed When You Come Home Again, and didn't listen to it. So I just listened to it and this song reminds me of why I fell in love (platonic of course) with you and your voice, it's that FREAKIN voice of yours. It just reaches down in my gut, too graphic? Sorry, but it does, maybe soul is a prettier word to use. The purity of your voice, still takes me by surprise particularly in songs where your voice is more prominent than the instrumental part of the song.

Ok, that's it. Geez, your voice dude, seriously.

Cathy Storms said...

DJ,
You are so right about Chris's voice and I couldn't have said it better. It reaches down and touches something very deep in the soul. The purity and emotion in Chris's voice is amazing.
Sometimes when I listen, I have to catch my breath because it's so beautiful.

Nique's Nana said...

It took several trys, but I was finally able to play both songs, and I love them both. I'm really exicted about this Christmas cd. As usual Chris, you are just so awesome.

Cathy Storms said...

Thank you to everyone....You all have become such a special part of my life. What a blessing......

Chris! We LOVE the second, new original song! :-D This is easily one of the best new type Christmas songs I've heard in recent memory-- and we LOVE LOVE the way you sing it.
I think tons of people can relate to the words and sentiment, and it could be really quickly embraced by the public. Well done!! (hugs)

Unknown said...

This is a song I've done for years acapella.

I highly recommend using the following verse, that is not often printed in the hymnals, but is the most powerful.

Why lies He in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christian, fear—for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him thru,
The cross be borne for me, for you: (for me and for you)
Hail, hail the Word made flesh—
The babe, the son of Mary!

I've often thought of using a hammer in the background on the nails, spears part, but haven't followed through on that yet.

DJ in AL said...

and...I could see this song as a soundtrack to a Holiday Special or a seasonal episode on t.v. .......

and Cathy ditto.

Hischild said...

Chris! When You Come Home Again. WOW! As others have said, SO appropriate for anyone w/a loved one away in service of their country. I can picture this being used w/video montage of troops. Powerful!

Avery,
I've never heard 2nd part of that verse. It's GREAT! I'm passing it on to our worship pastor. We sing this every year and I bet he'll tack this version onto it. Thanks!

Cathy Storms said...

Chris~
How were the shows over the weekend?
Now you have some time off. Whoohoo!
Is this the week that Gina is coming to visit you and Sarah? That's going to be a fun week...

ChrisSligh said...

Wow...it's nice to see a buncha new people stopping by lately.

Hope everyone continues to stop by!

And thanks for that chorus part, Avery...I'll look to add that.

Chris

risalea said...

Well, I have Chris's pro lem this morning except I could go to sleep, just didn't stay asleep. Avery, I love that verse as well, for it is a reminder that the babe in a manger came to bear our sins and rose again in triumph over sin and death.

Can't wait to get home and listen to the song. I will definitely share that with Tammy (Amanda's mom) as her oldest son went in the service this past summer.

I am looking forward to this morning, as it is church of Christ weekend in Silver Dollar City and there is going to be a service in the amphitheater. I love good congregational singing and I've heard this gathering is awesome. (We are forced to know harmony from an early age with all acapella- LOL)

Sorry so long-welcome all new folks. Now I am going to try and get back to sleep to ready myself for one last shopping afternoon-just being patriotic and doing my part to stimulate the American economy.:). Have a great Lord's day, friends!

FYI for any of you close enough to visit SDC-They are having a young Christians weekend March 27-29, 2009 and I see the group that Chris wrote about, downhere, is one of the featured performers. And excuse the typos, I am typing on my phone.

Welcome all the new fans..Please continue to keep posting.

Chris & Risa~safe journeys home

Chris, I hope your shows were wonderful this weekend.

risalea said...

I'm sorry, I promise not to post again under this blog. Just wanted to say I got home and got a chance to really listen to "What Child" all the way through and to "When You Come Home Again." Beautiful arrangement of the traditional Christmas classic...sounds fresh and new. And I think "When You Come Home Again" is going to speak to so many families whose loved ones are far away. Very poignant.

The concert on Friday night was awesome! Of course Chris was great. I knew that going into it. However, I was very impressed with the whole show. The drummer was awesome! I was actually impressed with all the lights. I wasn’t expecting just a so-so show, but I was very impressed with all the extras. Chris started off saying that there was a rock your face off part of the show and a melt your heart part of the show. Of course, my wife loved the melt your heart part, but I liked the rock your face off! It was great!

Then, after the show, I stuck around to meet Chris. Chris was signing autographs afterwards. I went up to get my cd signed, and told him that I visited his blog regularly. He was very busy trying to sign all kinds of other autographs and said that it was nice to meet me. So, I turned around to leave and he said, are you Ben? I think that is kinda cool he remembered my name from my post the other day.

So…I had a blast. Chris is a great guy with an awesome voice. The whole concert experience was awesome, and I hope he is back in the area someday. Like I said, I think Chris’s voice is amazing. However, it is also pretty awesome that he is blogging about his whole experience.

HstryQT said...

I LOVE both songs Chris! They're beautiful. I can't remember from before - will these definitely be released on radio or just in an album? I hope to hear more of you on KLOVE!

I sent my video in! I'm so proud of myself for figuring out all of these crazy technical things involved with it. But I figured it out and so Teddy's air guitar is now out there in cyberspace for you - hope you get it!

Still very sad I couldn't make it to the Rock Church on Friday. I bought my tickets early and everything. But life happens and we had to help our friends who had a death in the family :(.

Ben I'm glad that it was a great show and you enjoyed yourself and got to meet Chris! Hopefully it won't be too long before he's nearby again.

Cathy Storms said...

Ben,
That's so awesome!!!I'm glad you got to meet Chris and he knew your name. Not only is he super talented, he's also one of the nicest people you would ever meet.

Your so right, his show is awesome!!

Thanks for posting about it.

Cathy Storms said...

Ben,
I almost forgot, the drummer, Jon, is awesome and he is the greatest guy.
He is just as nice as Chris, the whole band is....

Now that you've met "the band", you really have to plan on coming to the picnic next year. You get to spend a whole day up close and personal with Chris and the band and of course Chris's awesome fans...lol...

DJ in AL said...

Ben,

Thanks for the recap, and I'm so glady you had a good experience! Dude, always, always mention that you are a blogger to Chris when you see him! Not that he does't love all of his fans, cause he does, but I'm convinced his blogger buds hold a special place in his heart.

Hey Chris-- they use that second verse Avery mentioned in some of the churches around here. The Church of Christ believe in singing them ALL, so it can be wierd for some of us unacquainted with following verses.

Avery-- Isn't that line about the hammer and nails kind of graphic for Christmastime? The Ox and Ass part in a manger is really good, because it paints a picture of what it was, IMO.

On an interesting sidenote to mangers? Because they get filled and left and layers accumulate in it over time? They ferment, and get nice and warm, throwing heat. Little known fact, but interesting nonetheless. :-) Feeling tired and random.

LOVE the Coming Home song Chris. It could be huge. I'm def listening to it while it's up.

risalea said...

Bullyse, it sounds like you've been to a C of C gospel meeting and had to sing "Just As I Am" through multiple times! LOL

OK, I said I wasn't posting again under this blog, but I lied. I have to report that Teddy and all the other "P-R" folks for the "Empty Me" video can rest easy. I've got a group of enthusiastic Junior League of NLR gals lip syncing on Sunday afternoon and we're going to take the "J" assignment. And I've recruited a cute, skinny girl to be in the front row. Never hurts. : )

chamilton said...

okay guys,
I am really loving allof the video ideas. I just just don't know if I have the guts to do this but I was thinking of calling all my girls from the state building and going to Wichita State and trying to get a WUSHOCK to be in it with us.A WUSHOCK is a gold an black guy with like a wheat stock growing out oh the top of his head. We will see, isn't there just a music part that I wouldn't have to lip sync in... Okay enough whinning. Well a little more. I will be wondering what is going on here with you all while I sit in court for the next two days.
Cathy,
I hope that you enjoyed your quilt and know that everytime you wrap it around you... you get big fuzzy hugs from everywhere.

Candy

P.S.
Ben wasn't that like the neatest thing you've done in a while. I hope that it was for you. Told ya the introduction would be cool.

Hischild said...

Ben,
Thanks for reporting on the concert. I love to hear how all of them go but usually only get a review from those who come here. So glad Chris remembered you and asked. Isn't he cool?? I'm SO glad you had such a great time! Now you'll never want to miss him again.
And I must agree with Cathy about Jon and the rest of the band. Chris is blessed to have them.

Hischild said...

Lori & Risa,
I am excited to hear about your videos! Gotta laugh about the cute skinny girl down front, Risa. You think like me.

My husband put the kabosh on the Grand Canyon trip! *%$#(&%^#%&A*#!!! So I'm scrambling for a plan B. Was gonna stand in the middle of an empty I-17. It's been closed the past 4 weekends and now they are DONE!!! Why do all my bright ideas arrive too late??? Grrr.
Can't wait to see the finished product though.

Cathy Storms said...

Candy~I am loving the quilt and still cry everytime I look at it. I have never been so touched by any gift.
Thank you everyone...

Still waiting to do my video. I need Audra to come help me and she has had sick kids and now she is sick. Hopefully this weekend..I'm still debating where to shoot it. I can't wait to see everyones video. Chris, are you going to post them somewhere so we can see them all?

Anonymous said...

I want to know where you can see a WUSHOCK! Someone with a stalk of wheat growing out of the top of his head alone would be worth it. heh.

Risa-- Growing up Catholic, we never really sang more than the first verse, second one sometimes. To have to sing them ALL was/is a bit wierd for sure! Sure feels like over and over!

Nice to see people so excited about the video ideas. :-) I'll be curious to see some of them! The Grand Canyon may not be the only "grand' scenery you can find-- think outside the box!

Hope you're feeling well, Chris.

Chris,

I hope you'll forgive me for using your blog (again) for a purpose other than talking about all things Sligh (though that is my favorite subject).

Cathy had a really tough day today with her 2nd round of chemo and I think she could use her Fro Friends offering up a prayer for her.

So, if you have a few extra minutes and it's in your heart to do so, could you say a small prayer for her?

BTW she's ok, treatment was just particularly trying today (not that it's ever fun).

Thanks friends!

Sometimes those chemo critters can be pretty nasty!!

Thanks again to everyone.

ROLL CALL--Who all has or is submitting a video for "Empty Me"?

I'll start--as I said in a previous post, some girls from the Junior League are meeting Sunday at our signature project, Heaven's Loft, to film our J segment. A friend who does the photography and website for PT graciously volunteered to video for us. We're going to go ahead and do the chorus, too, in case we're so fabulous Chris needs extra footage. (OK, y'all can pick yourself up off the floor from laughing so hard) We're still trying to figure out what we can do besides just sing, so if anyone has any ideas for a group, throw them my way....I'm having a hard time figuring out what to do fun, yet not be too silly for the song.

Chris -

Do you have a release date for the Christmas CD? Also would it be possible to get the chart of 'What Child' We would love to perform this at our church during Christmas time (of course with the appropriate copyright/license release)

Thanks for your ministry
