No News Is Good News?

Haven't really had a lot on here lately, when actually my life is extremely busy of late.

Obviously, I've been writing. I just wrote another song that I'm really, really pumped about called "The Breakdown"...it's about the idea that there is this weird dochotomy in life that being broken down is somehow beautiful. You can't truly love without defenses being broken down; you can't truly give yourself to something or someone without barriers being broken down; there's beauty in the breakdown.

Kevin Max and I, I think are becoming friends. How weird is it that someone I have idolized to some degree is now becoming my friend. Anyway, we're working on a couple of ideas right now that are really strong, I think. We're getting back together on Thursday to work through and hopefully finish a song or two. We may possibly involve a guy named Will Owsley who produced Kevin's Blood album and was the lead singer of the band Owsley. Owsley has become a friend also.

Tomorrow, I'm meeting with Brown, the producer who'll be producing most of my album. We are listening through songs and figuring out the 5-6 songs that are definites for the record...basically we're defining the record we're making. We'll also be talking about who will be playing on the record, who will be producing other tracks on the record, etc. So, tomorrow, hopefully, we'll have a definite vision of what this record will become.

Wednesday, I'm writing with one of my lyrical heros, at least in the CCM market, named Tony Wood. Search Tony's name and you'll find he has written songs that you know and that you love. He's a fantastic lyricist, so I'm excited to see what kind of ideas we work through. I have ideas for lyrics, but he's the technician who'll take the ideas and make them great.

Friday, I'll be working with a guy named Sam Mizell who is had like 6 number 1 CCM hits last year. This will be interesting. Sam's style of writing isn't my personal favorite, but he is great at what he does. If he's as talented as I think he is, it'll be cool to pull him to where I like to write and have him make me better while doing something different than he normally does, or maybe we'll meet somewhere in the middle.

I've been working out 3 times a week for an hour with a trainer, plus small cardio on my own on off-days. It's kind of cool to see my endurance growing quickly. I actually can run a pretty good distance now, so that's exciting. Plus my face and stomach are rapidly growing smaller, so it's nice to at least see those things tone up.

Next week, I fly to sunny L.A. to meet with publishing, labels, tv studios, casting directors and film companies. I have a busy 4 days. I also will hopefully be writing with a writer who had something like 5 number one hits on the mainstream side last year. CAA has done a great job with lining me up with people who will help me on the acting side of things while my management is chasing down some ideas on their end that look very promising. In the next few weeks, I may have some exciting news on the acting front!

Finally, it looks like my label hunt is finally coming to a close. Recently, a label has stepped up to the plate and really made it worthwhile to work with a label. There's a lot that still has to happen before a formal announcement, but let's put it this way: I'm excited. It's a label that's been in the hunt from the beginning, never fallen off and stayed true to making great music and helping me build a career off the great building blocks we have already.

So, stay tuned. My guess is that, if everything goes to plan, within a week or two, I should be announcing my label home.

So, believe me, no news is good news.

I'm glad. You sound happy.

I'd say more but I'm having the most horrible day EVER and I can't really think of anything to say. Sorry.

Glad to hear that things are continuing to go so well. The Breakdown sounds like a great idea for a song, and it's neat that you and Kevin Max are becoming friends - I've been listening and listening on the radio to hear Run On For a Long Time. Can't wait to hear the acting news! Good luck in LA next week.

I'm going back to nurse this stomach bug that I've acquired. (pout). Nurse says she's not worried about the baby, so that's good. It just stinks feeling crappy. Til later!

I was really hoping you'd have a nice post to start our week--and gosh, this was great! :-D Good news, across the board for you! yay!!
I get really excited at the concept of making new friend,s and what kind of impact bringing a new person into life can bring. It is neat to see the melange of flavors, as someone gets brought in, and you begin to call them friend. Nice. :-) It can be really hard to make nice new friends, so Im thrilled for you to find some peoples to share the journey with.

I'm really proud of the progress you're making on the diet and exercise front too, geez. Excellent news, and yeah, you sound busy! Good kind of busy.

Wow busy is right. You ever notice how some of the really gracious people at awards show always say how they are surrounded by such talented people. Sure sound like that is the road you are on. This is all so vicariously exciting!

Hey Friend.....You are well on your way. So many places to go people to see. How do you keep up with it?

The Lord has truly blessed you and has blessed me with your friendship.

Thanks,

It sounds like you are having some very productive work sessions. I know it must be fulfilling when all these things are coming together.

Thanks for sharing and we expect for you to break your label news to us first! Well, after Sarah, of course. : )

Lori, sorry you've got the creeping crud. A lot of that has been going around here. I've managed to stay healthy. That's what happens when you teach for years...you get exposed to every germ and develop immunities. And Carrie, hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

Take care! I've got to go get ready for my class review tomorrow. Risa

I think I already know the answer to this question, but have you thought about starting up your "theological digressions" blog again? I'm sure keeping up with this one and your fitness blog, along with L-I-F-E, is probably enough. But I enjoyed your musings there.

Oh, and I somehow missed the comment about possible acting news coming. I thought about you and acting this weekend on my Bunco girls lake trip. We were watching "Holiday" with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, and Jack Black. I had never seen that and loved it. (I'm all about the chick flick). You could have nailed that Jack Black part! : )

Ok, that's it, now I've got to go do some work.

I love it when no news is really good news. I was listening to some of your songs today and thinking about you. I wondered when everything you have going on was going to force a limit on your blogging time. I know all good things must come to an end eventually so at this point I'll say I'll take whatever blog time you give us. You've spoiled us so rotten with the frequent posts and sharing of yourself that we feel very much a part of your experience and love it. Thank you for that, Chris.

But busy is good. Sounds like you have quite a few irons in the fire. I'm looking forward to hearing your "label news" soon. The Breakdown song sounds promising and interesting. Wishing you safe travels next week.

Glad you are developing friendships with those you are working with. Hope Sarah is finding opportunities to lay foundations for friendships also. It can be hard starting over in a new place and I hope Nashville will embrace the two of you.

You sound confident and happy right now. That's wonderful. Keep up the good work on the new and improved, physical Chris Sligh. As someone above posted, a current pic on MySpace would be great if you feel comfortable sharing visual progress with us. If not, just keep up the good work and you can surprise us when we see you on tour for the new CD.

I'll be taking in a Day of Fire/Daughtry concert this weekend in North Carolina so life is keeping me busy too. But....as soon as I return home, I'll check in here for updates and progress. Enjoy your writing and the rest of your week.

Same to the rest of the Fro Patrol--enjoy the rest of your week and hope you have a great weekend. Hope Amanda is feeling better.

Anonymous said "Your tourin days are done. Your ego is bigger than your talent."

While agreed that the momentum of AI tour is being lost, 19 Entertainment made it impossible to get anything place for a smooth transition to post AI career. Previous AI alumni have had rather erractic success, so their's not the best measure of future success of anyone's continued future in entertainment in general, music in particular.

Given the credentials of people involved to date, I assume this deliberation has value and may prove the better, if less obvious, path.

Like everyone stay tune, pay attention, and see if your current asessment may need to be re-evaluated, as there is much you have missed in behind the scenes activity.

As far as Ego goes, maybe more than the average person's is needed in a field that is notoriously known for rejection. Particularly one is need to suffer being second guessed by people with a major attitude and no vested interest.

Do have a very good day.

Right time of day

I wanna be the one to hold you
Could i be yours tonight?
Only for a moment,
when the time is right,
I see you see you all the time,
the beauty that is in your face,

All along the way
I was yours to hold
i Should have known,
that is wasn't the right time of day,

you've found another reason
to run away..

I wanna be the one to hold you,
Could i be yours tonight?
only for a moment,
when the time is right?
i see you all the time,
the beauty that is in your face,

I should have known that this was all a dream
it simply wasn't the right time of day
There is nothing that you can say,
Did i ever make you feel this way?

You've found another reason
to run away..

Could i be yours tonight?
only for a moment,
When the time is right?

Poems I guess would be like songs, Chad. People can give you feedback, how it affects them, but no one can really judge, you know? Nor I think, should they.

We share poems(in your case lyric) because it moves you to and you want to express that. It's in the sharing and the receiving, that we are made more.

But like I told a guy in a previous post who ripped on Chris's lyric-- it is the bones of the song. I think the sentiment of it counts, but response can vary as the fleshing of the song colors it. :-)I think it's nice.

While you spend time blogging, dreaming your dream, other AI's out there are living it...

All one has to do is google any AI's top 10 for all seasons and follow what they've been doing.

You are AI's Omarosa. as in "Omarosa who?" Your 15 minutes are over and you just don't know it. Then again, I think you may have a chance at Christian rock with that market niche. But not mainstream.

Your pompous, egotistical presence on AI was a turn off to many. You are mediocre at best as a songwriter. And quite obviously, you do not take criticism well...that's been proven.

Isn't it amazing how rude people can be on the internet? Most likely anon would never say these mean things to Chris's face, but because they are on the internet and "anonymous" they feel free to say any rude thing that crosses their mind. What is it about knowing that no one can tell who you are that makes people act so... vile? It's such a shame that the internet brings out this ugliness in some people.

Unknown said...

Chris, you are working your tailfeathers off, both professionally and physically. I'm very happy for you. Enjoy the ride, and kudos to you for taking the high road with Anonymous Troll. Risalea "southern for what an idiot" is the best I've heard in a while--another way for me to distinguish you from Rosalee ;-)

GDA, very well said above--sometimes I don't "get you," but your comments are quite well stated above.

Carrie said...

People are idiots. And cowards.

Anonymous said...

I guess that my only response to anon is to ask how in your opinion do you "live it"? I guess that having 6 writing sessions this week alone with fellow artists and writers with something like a combined 50 number 1 hits isn't "living it" but dreaming it. I assume that starting my album in 3 weeks is dreaming it. Will I be successful as an artist because of all this? Who knows. But I think I can quantifiably say that I have moved past the dreaming.

As far as critique...who knows, maybe I can't...but it begs the question of who should I be critiqued by? My manager and producer? Or 3 judges who know little about modern music? I'll save my come uppance for the people who have a stake in actually making me a better writer/artist rather than someone who's next comment hinges on next week's ratings.

Again...thanks for stopping by. You are welcome any time.

Peace,
Chris

Unknown said...

And would that be Anonymous Sligh at 1:37?? :-)

Carrie said...

It's really sad what people do for a reaction, but they know that when they're negative that it's when they DO get a reaction, hence that whole "unable to take criticism" comment. But as one who has been attacked by anon people several times myself, I know it's those people who cause me to flip out and reply to instantly.

I think we need some kind of happy, positive conversation going on here because this past week has been ridiculous in regards to drama everywhere ever.

I'm not going to comment all Chris I love you and I'll support you no matter what!!! because you that just isn't who I am/what I do, but I DO know that you're obviously not sitting around doing nothing and capable of writing some amazing things. There's always one idiot in the crowd, as I know, but trust me.... everything when it comes to art is opinion. If you love it, don't give up.

ChrisSligh said...

Not sure why it put me in as anonymous.

One more thing: if you google the top 10, they are doing great things. I'm excited for them. I turned down several shows in November and December because I will be in the studio.

It is pretty cool to see Phil doing Carnegie Hall! Don't know if you guys had seen that.

Anyway, my point is this: I'm not going to down anyone else's decisions for how they work, but I chose to work on a record. I don't need the money for shows. I need to put together a great record. On my own, I agree, I don't have a chance, but what I'm realizing quickly is that the team around an artist is what makes the difference between 25,000 in sales and 250,000. Let's just say I'm excited about my team. They are slowly helping me become better at what I do.

By the way, (for the regulars here: an update) I wrote with a guy named Tony Wood yesterday. We got 2 more songs to throw into the mix. So, that's exciting. We had a meeting on Tuesday picking songs for the record with my manager and producer. We narrowed it down from about 80 songs to now about 20. We're all listening to the songs to figure out what the best 11-12 will be.

The great thing about all this co-writing is that I am creating copyrights. Whatever doesn't make my record will give me a chance to have songs pitched to other artists. If the artist career doesn't work out, I'm learning that I can have a career in writing. So, that's great.

Anyway, don't let the anons get you down. I think that I'll keep it open just because there are people like Deb in TN and others that aren't members of blogger that I love being able to post. I can delete annoying posts, if I need to.

Peace and love,
Chris

Carrie said...

that was supposed to say because you know that just isn't who I am*** but whatever, it still got the point across. I think.

I'm sorry I should've made it more clear. I have about 30 NEW songs, but we went through a lot of the songs I had recorded in the past to choose things that might work for this record. We had about 80 total to choose from. Sorry about that.

She is really awesome on this tour. I can't wait for the San Diego & Hollywood show. We are seeing her on Friday Nov 16th then on Sunday Nov 18th. That will be a Kelly weekend.

If you get a chance check it out. She is coming to Nashville at the end of December. Hopefully you will get to see her.

risalea said...

For you praying folks out there, please put Carmen and I on your list as we are both traveling this weekend. (so why am I still doing laundry?? I can't ever seem to get in bed early the night before a trip.

I plan to see Amanda if she's up to it on Sunday, and will be delivering gifts from myself and others to leave with the nurses if she's not. I'll make sure she knows that she is in your thoughts and prayers.

Chris, you really sound like you're on top of your game (or, to use a fanjaya word, if I may, you're on fiyah!!). I'm so glad you're happy with the team you have behind you and that you understand that they are there to work for you and help you navigate the choices before you. I'm thrilled that you're learning about copyrights and royalties. If you really want to go where the money is, become an intellectual property lawyer, hahaha (okay, that might be a little soul-murdering for you--stick with music).

What strikes me most from your recent blogs is that you know how to collaborate. You're meeting all kinds of people--some personal heroes, some professionals you've never met--and you're figuring out what you can learn from each and what you can do for each other. That will serve you well.

CathyStorms, I might go see Kelly next week! I've never been to a Kelly concert, and I'm excited. Glad she's back on her feet, and it sounds like her show is terrific.

Risalea, have a good trip with Carmen. I know you'll pass on lots of hugs to Amanda from the Fros.

Cathy Storms said...

girlygirl..Oh I hope you get to go see Kelly in concert. You won't be disappointed. I've seen her 7 times & everytime is awesome. Be sure & post about it if you get to go.

Carmen & Risa~ have a safe trip. Can't wait to hear all about it. Be sure to give Amanda our love.

Ever think that certain people LIKE to know what's going on? Honestly, if you don't care, don't read. I never unstand the mentality of the anons. Anyhow, he'll make his announcement soon. I don't see the need to rush.

Also, does anyone else find it ironic that an anonymous non-fan still finds me in his public consciousness enough to come to my blog and tell me that my 15 minutes are up? At 11:19pm on a Friday night?

It's not that I mind. I just find it ironic.

OOOo, Risa that sounds nice. I'm a big non-fan of Amy Grant myself.
heh!
I have heard the two of them are SO NICE to the public. That's a nice thing to know about her, I think. Hockey games, etc, they're great. Spouse sat like a couple seats away from them on a day they sang the anthem...and I was just, jealous. *sigh*

We can’t wait until that moment you say goodbye. Before that, you apparent are just going to persist in taking mean spirited swipes to alienate everyone, dude. Honestly, you over stayed you welcome. Maybe you’ll tell us what your grudge is that makes you such delightful presence.

There are some of us who have interest in the process of the usually unreported considerations that occur before the finalized decision. If you only want news of the signings on any of this pick up or visit Billboard or any of the trades

If his proverbial Warholian fifteen minute is up why didn't your interest end with it?, Dude.

Bubbles! I like bubbles :P I was blowing bubbles for the kids at work yesterday.

Chris, you've handled these anon-morons (sorry) very respectfully and I commend you for that!

Ouch! :( I feel so bad for the Indians. They had a 3-1 series lead over the Redsox and have fallen apart the last 2 games. It's 10-1 Redsox right now. They need to remember that the series isn't over and if they win tomorrow, the last 2 games mean nothing.

Anonymous said...

Why can't I see the irony? Gee, I dont know, Chris. Because you've got into a personal brawl with an unknown poster in internet, who by the way is very possible a dumbass tweener? Because you got into such situation for too many times already, just nobody cares anymore (again, 15 min is up)? Because it is Not ok for people having a different opinion and you would delete it, but it is ok for the core group to call me all kinds of names on your blog? You tell me, I simply cannot decide.

Carrie said...

Well when you come and personally attack someone in their own blog, yeah, I can kinda see why he'd respond. There's a difference between having your own opinion and coming to someone's blog and insulting them outright. That's just immature and rude. I don't see anyone calling you names either so way to go imagining things. No one here wants to discuss whatever it is you're trying to get across because it's RUDE. You know damn well you didn't come here to state an opinion, you came here to attack him, thinking it was funny. He wouldn't get into any "situations" if people like you didn't have to hide behind anonymity and show up trying to crack jokes at his expense. Seriously, go away. No one wants to hear your crap. Either be constructive or don't bother commenting.

Carrie said...

Also, yes, it IS ironic you're telling him to get a life when he replied with two comments shortly after one another that took place ONE night. You just keep coming back for more. It's ridiculous. I don't even understand why you feel the need to insult another human being that you personally do not know and at this point, I hope you never do. It's disgusting enough the things that are being said outside of the blog and so to bring it IN here? YOU get the life. You don't say those kinds of void statements to someone who is one of the nicest and most giving people to come out of American Idol that I have ever met. And no, I'm not saying it as an ass-kiss. I'm saying it because it's the truth. People who feel the need to pick on someone over the internet they don't know and anonymously? They're cowards. Neglected childhood much, anon?

Anonymous said...

Wow, I can't believe how pathetic people can be.

Mr Bubbles- Here's a life lesson most people learn by the age of 5. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

rosalee said...

Tawny, I believe you just violated your own rule!(ROFL)

Anonymous said...

Saying that people can be pathetic is a fact! :P Everyone can be pathetic at one point or another. Plus, I didn't straight call him/her pathetic. I had to say Mr. Bubbles because we don't know that person's name.

I'm innocent!

DJ in AL said...

Anon,

You're not quite as smart as you think you are. I know exactly who you are and which forums you hang out on. Your writing style is easy to spot, and your choice of words completely gave you away. What do you think we don't go to other forums? You may be appreciated and high-five'd over there for your lame attacks on Chris, but it doesn't play well here. Chris has always, always responded to his critics. Chris is a blogger, this is his blog, of course he's going to respond to poster, that's what you do on a blog. I don't see the mystery here.

You have been asked to leave. Maybe not with as much respect as you'd like, but then, you haven't earned any. Had you come here and expressed an opinion based on fact, you would received objectivity. But you came to slam and be hateful. I don't speak for Chris, but I don't think that's what this blog is about.

So, like we have said, go sell your smack somewhere else will ya?

Carrie said...

Deb,

I know, right? Way to give themselves away right off the bat. I was going to say something, too, but I didn't want to go right out and name an exact place so kept quiet. But what do we know? WE'R JUZT A ST0OpiD K0RE GRO0P!!~*

DJ in AL said...

Carrie,

I figured you would recognize anon too. A little too obvious. Give me a break!

Anonymous said...

I'm just trying to figure out how I started a brawl with said anon poster. I thought I did the exact opposite. There's a lot that I could've said but decided to let it go. And I would like to point out that no one called the anon poster names.

Anyway guys just let them do what they do.

Anon, again thanks for stopping by. You're welcome any time.

Peace,
Chris

Unknown said...

Well said, Anonymous Chris! Peace and love in the universe and all that ;-)

Carrie said...

You're ANON-ing again! But okay I will try and not rant at the rude anons anymore. I kinda had that held in for a long time though, so......... oops? And trust me, there was a lot *I* could have said but I held back -- a lot.

Anonymous said...

Well, I certainly am confused by the unwelcoming of core group members and welcoming from Chris. Glad everyone has a role to play. And I would like to point out that neither you nor the core group have the ability of letting anything go.

In addition, way to go with your selective blindness, Chris.

Carrie said...

LMAO.

1. There is no real "core group."

2. Everyone is welcome as long as new posters aren't rude. Telling someone their over? Rude.

Way to go trying to make us look like the jackasses here. Talk about being blind. I'm sorry to have to keep adding to this but it's REALLY hypocritical. If you can have a discussion without being a jerk then people will talk to you. Otherwise the negativity really isn't welcome here or on many places on the internet come to think of it.

jennifer said...

I'm a little confused why someone would apparently sit here reloading the blog comments and baiting responses of readers on a blog that seemingly no one cares about? Isn't that a little hypocritical? Maybe I'm missing something here. It seems like this anon is just trying to fuel the fire and provoke a big dramatic response, which is what people on the internet do. I'm kind of used to it everywhere. It just makes no sense if the main basis of your argument is that Chris' so-called fifteen minutes are up, yet you've posted multiple times in one day and are clearly checking back frequently to see what kind of response you get. If you don't care, then don't care. Go have a life. Go exist outside of the internet. Otherwise you can't really complain about anyone else.

ChrisSligh said...

Anon,

A couple of things.

1) I've re-read my responses to you and re-iterate again that I feel comfortable that my responses have been very respectful to you and your opinons. I have hardly started a brawl with an anonymous poster. I could have, sure. But I did not. There's no reason to. You have your opinon on me, and you're entitled to it. Others may disagree, but such is life. I genuinely say, you are welcome here.

2) You've told me multiple times to get a life. While I still find that statement ironic, I will respond with this: I spend perhaps 30 minutes a day on this blog. I happen to be a pretty fast typist, and usually my responses (as my responses to you have been) are short and sweet. There are many days that I do not post at all. I hardly think that a guilty pleasure (which this blog is for me) is a waste of time. This is the way I love to interact with my fans. While you personally may find the blog tedious or un-useful, there are many who find it entertaining and enjoyable. So, I don't do it for you: I do it for them. Anyway, my "life" is tied up in a lot of work right now and in the same way that Phil and Melinda post blogs from time to time on their respective myspaces despite their obviously busy schedules, I happen to blog here. I enjoy it. And I will continue to enjoy it. If that decreases your opinon of "my life" then so be it. I will continue to do it for me and those that "get it". Once again, you are welcome to enjoy or not enjoy it any time you please.

3) I admit, in reading some of the posts, that some of my fans here have taken your posts a little personal. I apologize if you have been offended. I have a feeling that you would react to them in similar fashion if you were in their position, if not worse. But that is neither here nor there. My point is that you came to Chris Sligh central and posted material that some, including myself, could find offensive. Some of the posts have been very accomodating. Some have been perhaps a bit harsh. But I think you are intelligent enough to know what you were getting yourself into. Perhaps you enjoy getting tagged or you enjoy antagonizing. I don't know. Whatever it is, again, you are welcome here. However, I don't know that the responses you get from my fans will be much different in the future. I once read that a fool isn't someone who does something and gets burnt. A fool is someone who does that same thing again and expects a different response. So, feel free to post, but don't be a fool.

4) My 15 minutes may very well be up. Although your posting here seems to decry the opposite. But, when my time is up, I will be joyous to know that I have done more in the last year(s) than most people get to do in a lifetime. And I will be joyous to know that I have connected with people here and all over the nation in a way that only those who have been in the AI shoes can understand. Anon, you can throw rocks as you wish, but my life is a very happy place to be. I wouldn't trade it for your life for anything. I'm living out more dreams than I thought possible.

5) I'm not sure what you mean by letting go. When I look at your posts, it seems you're the one who can't "let go". You are someone who apparently doesn't like me, yet go out of your way to come over here and leave negative comments. The people here focus on your specific comments and call you out for them. They don't drag things on for days...the responses to your negativity have come in a 24 hour period...that would be dealing with something immediately...the opposite of not letting go. Honestly, I feel you have a serious problem with blame and putting it off on someone else. You are welcome to post whenever you want, but please don't shift your negativity off onto some of the other posters here. You can't let go of whatever it is I did to you, and, you know what, I'm okay with it. I can handle it. But, again, don't shift it to the other posters here.

6) Finally, you're right, I pre-announced Shrek, but if you go back and read those posts, you'll see it was always a possibility, not a given. Shrek was a huge honor for me. Unfortunately I had to turn it down. Was it just bubbles? No. It was a legitimate offer that had to be turned down because of scheduling. The record deal that is being negotiated right now is a different deal...it will happen. We're just working on the fine points of the deal. Obviously you know very, very little of how these things work (and that's okay - until this deal made it past the initial stages, I had no idea how long a record deal actually takes). My point is that, being that this is my blog, I do have the right to post whatever I feel like posting. Just as you have the right to comment what you feel like commenting. I'm trying not to fault you for commenting how you comment. Just give me the benefit of the doubt for once on what I post. Believe it or not, I'm actually trying to learn from past mistakes.

Anyway, guys, thanks so much for the kind defenses on here. Also, not sure why, but whenever I post from my iPhone it puts me as anonymous. Weird.

Peace and love,
Chris
