Feel free to leave comments, even if you are not a member of blogspot.

Good luck on American Idol, my family and I are pushing for you. God bless

Chris I'm sad you took it all down in the midst of me reading your background. My brother, Jon Baylor, has put all of us onto you and we are avid Idol watchers. I can relate completely to your struggles with music as a younger person growing up in fundamental Christian circles...it's NOT easy. Freedom in Christ is not available in many of those circles, if any. So, rock on, man and we'll be cheering for YOU on A.Idol!!! :)

Anonymous said...

Best of luck to you Chris! Came back to re-read the Sligh-ku and it was gone!

Remember, the Lord won't lead you where He can't keep you. Wherever He leads you, I'm sure, will be a wonderful journey. Stay true to Him and to who you are!

My Fro Ku disappeared! Thank God I have OCD and feel the compulsion to put it back by golly!

Fro-ku

what is in that fro?
wouldn’t we all like to know?
a scared to death cat?
a missing Elvis Presley?

now don’t get me wrong
we sure enough love that fro
but humor us please
inquiring minds want to know

We want you to know that we go to Lakewood/Joel Osteen’s church in Houston, Texas and we put you down as a prayer request that you would be blessed & protected and successfully go wherever the Lord as purposed for you.

Also, We are looking forward to the HPF CD!!

One last thing. Here is some advice you can take it or leave it. I think if Simon ever gives you a hard time you need to look him dead in the eye, give him a Sligh wink and a giggle and then drop it like it’s hot.
Blessings & Peace to you!

You could have left your top 100 favorite song list on pal, damn. Since I'm a big Muse fan, I figured I'd download some of em -- what was that other band you liked? Monkeyratchet Fistclutch?

Cool! I was wondering when this would officially happen. Hey, this is glass half-full time, 'cause the longer your blog content is gone, the longer you are still in the running!

God bless and good luck!

Sorry to see your content is gone.
When it was still there this morning, I saw that you are a Counting Crows fan, and since anyone who idolizes Adam Duritz has superb taste, I checked out some of your other bands on your "Top 100" list (Muse, Mute Math). I just came back to see some of your other favorites and saw that the list is gone - glad I caught some when I had the chance. Such are the perils of stardom...good luck with AI!

You broke my heart when you sang Seal's "Kiss From a Rose". I made my husband re-wind the Tivo FIVE times (and then he made me stop).

I would have done a Paula and then some if I were there.

You and I are not destined to ever agree about religion (so we'll never speak of same), but there is one thing both of us know:

You are gifted.
You were born to share that gift.

And, dang, Chris, you are one articulate young man.

We'll be praying God's hedge of protection around you, and that you'll remember every second that you are an ambassador for Him.

I'm Tara Tichner, and I'm your sort-of second cousin. Joanne is my mom's cousin, so Sarah would be my second cousin. In fact, Sarah and I used to play together at family reunions back in Minnesota when we were small (so I'm told...). I just thought she was cool because our names rhymed. :)

My husband and I don't get TV so we were out of the loop about the whole American Idol thing. Yesterday my mom emailed me about you, and then I went on YouTube to find the video of your initial performance.

You actually remind us of a friend of ours up in PA, also a musician. His name is Dan Harney, check him out on Myspace. People like you and him remind us not to take life so seriously. We all grew up in the same Christian environment as you, and can relate. Nothing a Don Miller read can't fix, though. :)

Never thought of any family member as an idol before. I was on the news once. You could almost see my whole arm. I didn't get to sing, though...

I hope life doesn't get TOO crazy for you guys. I don't know you but as a relation, make Jesus look good, ok? Make it a I Corinthians 10:31.

This makes me want to get TV just to watch the show!

Hey Chris!
its Susan at SEacoast Long PointRd again. Went to Church tonight, Greg S. said he does not usually try to sway the congregation politically by telling them who to vote for but this will have to be an exception. He said "We all need to vote for Chis Sligh this week"! Of Course, that prompted loud cheering and clapping of the hundreds in attendence at the Saturday night service. Not to mention all the other locations when they see it. My daughter is close to your age. Her boyfriend is worship leader for celebrate recovery on Friday nights. They love Mute Math also. (Did I spell it right?) She is a local photographer.Check out her website at Holy City Photography. You will love her style. She is super artsie. She did not get that from me. She plays Bass at Seacoast also.
Chris, you have such a gift. I will never ever forget the 1st time I saw you sing at Seacoast Mt Pleasant and at that time we did not have any idea who you were! You were amazingly unbelievable. Always remember the one that Blessed you with all your talent and Gifts. You are Awesome! Stay Real and True to who you are and why you are here. God Bless You. You are in our prayers.

Chris... you astound me. Your voice is raw and rich - truly extraordinary.

I keep hearing a bunch of hooey about "wow, that voice surprised me." or "I didn't expect him to sing like that." etc. Too many people make judgements based on stuff that has no bearing whatsoever on a person's talents, value, qualities, and spirit. You obviously possess talent in spades but more than that, you seem to have this incredible attitude and personality that just blows my mind.

I wish you the very best of luck on AI and in any endeavor you choose. Win or lose, you've found an admirer in me.

Dear Chris,

I am happy to say i am your #1 Fan! I liked you ever since you first started out on Idol, you don't know how many people are in this with you, you have the largest fanbase of anyone! You might want to check out the sites that support you, and maybe leave a note, a shout out to all of us who are supporting you! ( the site is www.chrisslighfans.com ) (I'm Chubby Hands) Were all struggling to choose a name for your fan base. We took "Fro Patro'" out of the running because it sounded too similar to Taylor's "Soul Patrol" Good luck, and check out the site!

Thanks
-Chubby Hands

P.S. Winning might not be such the best thing for your career. The american idol contract says, that you MUST sign a album with them. You must also go onto a tour with them. They take around 40% of your earnings and you have to do freaking ford commercials! I'd much rather see you have success with your band, and to make #1 records with them. Not Alone. Well thats pretty much what i had too say! GOOD LUCK, - From your #1 Fan, Chubby Hands (I'm the #1 poster on that site also!)

Hello, Chris. My name's Sara, and I'm from Indiana. My husband Dan and I watched tonight's show, and we were impressed with how well you insulted Simon Cowell. Very sassy.

You're our favorite, and your performance tonight was great!

Also, Dan has the same green shirt with the foil design on the front that you wore to your audition. Yay Old Navy! Very dapper choice, I must say.

God bless you, and good luck,

Hi Chris....I have been friends of your family since I was a child. I met your grandparents when my parents were stationed in Panama. You and your family stayed in our home in Virginia for a week....I am so happy for the success you have had so far. I hope you do well on American Idol! Rock on!
PS My Dad talked to your grandfather yesterday....he's proud of the testimony you have kept.

Chris, if you read this I really feel that you need to pick a Counting Crows song for some time in your Idol stint. I really think songs by Counting Crows will really fit you. Try it.

Dude, love the MuteMath, never heard them before reading your list. Great Music. Good Luck

You have totally got my vote! Keep up the great work. :)

Chris, I just want to let you know that you are an incredible performer and I keep trying to vote for you and instead accidentally vote for the lady who sang "all circuits are busy". But I pledge unto you that I will totally try to vote for you and support your bid for American Idol.

If I am unable to vote for you, Chris Sligh, tonight or any other night, and you end up being a runner up, I have every faith that you will get a record deal out of this. I will totally buy your album for real and not download it on the internet and also I will give you one week as my featured song on MySpace. I will give you what small specks of fame I have in order to provide some sort of consolation for me not being able to get through to your special voting lines.

Also, your performance tonight totally made me think I wanted to don a white cap and have a tailgate party like a frat guy at a DMB concert. It's true. And I also am sad you took down your blog but I don't blame you because fame is weird and I hope you don't have weird sorority party toilet pictures like that girl Antonella.

Chris,
I'm too old to compete. I've been entertaining hundreds of people every week for 10 years. The best advice I can give you is to keep up what you're already doing! You know you've got the chops. Look into the camera and act like the MILLIONS of people you're singing to are in your living room. You've got a great sense of humor. Use it to your advantage as well. I think you'll be the 4th runner up, which is a great compliment at this stage. One more thing.... keep your hair exactly like it is. You are a STAR! --Clavijo- HOWL at the Moon, San Antonio

I saw the show last night! You did a great job, and looked like you had a ton of fun!
This may sound stupid, but for all of us who remember hearing you sing in college....let us hear that beautiful voice we all know is there! You are an incredible singer, so prove Simon wrong. Don't let him get away with his "you're not the BEST singer!" comment! Be the best singer!!!! It was Kiss From a Rose that wowed the judges! Let 'em hear you REALLY sing, and you will wow them again!

Dear Chris:

I was just thinking about your very astute comment about song choice being key to winning American Idol. I am a lawyer and I like to look at all problems logically and from what I can tell from watching the show these many years, I think this is absolutely true.

My suggestion for your next song choice (or perhaps later in the competition) is "Fever" in the style of Tom Jones.

Rooting for you,

My husband and I are rooting for you! It's wonderfully to see someone in Ministry who can be fun, talented, funny and Christ-like... keep on letting Him shine :-).

Anonymous said...

I thought you did OK last night. The male competition is pretty weak this year. Don't talk back to the judges yet. Let America get to know you first. They might not get your sense of humor yet. Also, you might want to sing "Sweet Home Alabama" next week if you get voted through. That would be hilarious if you did that song.

I never watched the show before this season. My sister made me watch the auditions with her, though, and I got sucked in (mostly because of YOU, so thanks a lot). You're one of my favorites! Good luck.

Chris,
It's great to see a fellow BJU Chorale member hit the lime-light! I was laughing last night when Randy and Paula talked about you rushing the song. I could just hear Dr. Cook yelling at us to stay on the front edge of the beat. It wasn't your fault the band was lagging (they're used to accompanying untrained singers). Don't worry about Simon... he's threatened by anyone with a bigger personality than him. But don't argue with him... he's always going to win. Props to you for stepping outside the fundy cult and learning to worship God "in spirit and in truth". And thank you for bringing real music to the AI stage. If I have to suffer through another off-key Stevie Wonder song, I think I'll lose my mind. - Scott (BJU, class of 98) P.S. - I agree with the Counting Crows comment... I bet you could pull off a mean Adam Duritz. Make us recovering BJU alumns proud!

Chris, Greetings from a fellow former BJU student as well. I can totally relate to your struggles with growing up in a fundamentalist church and struggling with music standards. My wife and I live in LA now and attend a great church out here. We are cheering for you big time on American Idol!

Chris--I hope you win American Idol. You have an awesome voice! There is real depth and character to it. Just watched the show with 12 guys. I liked your whole song, but especially the slow part. It really showed the strength and range of your voice. You were the best by far. Good luck!

Hello Chris,
I was born in Germing and spent my first 6 years there. I am a Christian MuteMath fan living in Charlotte, NC. I am also a missionary. My wife and I hoping to plant churches in eastern Germany. Trust in the truth of the Bible. No matter what people in hollywood, nashville, or any other city tries to tell you. I am not a fundy in the sense that you use it on yout blog, but God had done some awesome things in my life. No one can deny that.

Chris,

You were my fave the first time you sang and I am pulling for you all the way! I made "Know" my song on MySpace and I really love that song. You have a superb voice and I enjoy your songwriting as well. No worries my friend, no matter how you do on AI, you are a rock star now. Congrats! I see you are a Beatles fan..if you ever have the chance, please sing "Oh Darling" if there's a Beatles theme week. Great song for a great voice.

Hi Chris,
I'm a 59 yr old Greenville native and a die hard idol fan. I've never missed a show & always pick the winner. I'm also an ex singer. Just wanted you to know that we voted for you a few hundred times Tuesday night. We love your voice, we want you to win.
Word of warning however, we were not impressed with your comments to Simon. If you think people hate him and want to hear those kind of remarks, you are dead wrong. The show would be nothing without him and I agree with about 98% of everything he says. Stay focused on your voice and not stand up comedy. It just isn't professional to bash the creator of the show, I'm sure you will lose votes if you continue to do so. Be humble & proud as the good Christian that you are. Make us proud of you man. Good luck tomorrow night, we are praying for you.

Way to go man - you had a good voice even back in college, although of course we weren't about to tell you about it then!

Take care, and remember why we're here.

Hi Chris. Good Luck. Great job. Enjoyed your blog diary. It was funny, clear, real. Reminded me of Paul Theroux's nonfiction travel books. I think you should be the chronicler of this amazing cultural phenomena . Why not write THE book? Even though I haven't been a consistent watcher except this season, I find the behind the scenes info fascinating.
