The Double Edged Sword of American Idol

I think that most Idols that you talk to would tell you they wish they'd never done American Idol. In fact, I was just talking to an Idol Friday who said the same thing. I think that most of that feeling is naivety in what Idol can and will do for you. Perhaps some of that feeling comes from the stigma that is with the term "american Idol". I don't know. It's a double-edged sword.

I'm somewhere in between, I think.

I had labels interested and had won national vocal and songwriting contests before Idol. I think that getting signed was around the corner from me...in fact I know it was. But Idol simply took things to another level for me. It's a double-edged sword.

It opened up doors with labels because 35 million saw me on tv. But on the other hand it was the same labels I'd worked with before Idol. I had 11 labels at one point interested. But in the "real world", beyond the labels, beyond everything else, there's a stigma at radio (CCM, pop, etc) with Idols; there's a stigma with concert venues (again, both churches and mainstream venues) and there's a stigma with the consumers. In other words, Idol opens up doors to have a chance. But because of what past Idols have done the chance becomes slimmer, if that makes sense.

For instance, for the genre I chose to go into, as a new artist selling 60,000 albums, it is remarkable. 3rd-best selling new artist since 2008. I mean, every new artist in my genre would kill to have that combined with a top 5 single. But because of being on Idol, the uninformed look at those sales as a failure. Whereas when faced with the actual facts, I have to be excited about my career! But I have people tell me all the time that it must suck to be as much of a failure as I am. Haha...it's a double-edged sword.

Would I have sold 60k on my debut without Idol? Hmmm...maybe...but let's be honest probably not. From research I've done, for the average new CCM artist a top 5 single on a debut album (rare, very rare) is worth 20-30k. The 2nd single is where the new artist's debut record is made or broken. Usually the 2nd single is worth 2-3 times in sales what the first single was. Sometimes more. So, if a 2nd single goes top 5 following a top 5 1st single, a new artist should sell an additional 40-80k. I sold 60k off 1 top 5 single, a top 15 single and 2 singles that promotion was pulled for before they got off the ground (because of getting out of my deal with Brash) - you could easily call those 2 flops, though it is more complex than that. My point: Idol FOR SURE helped my sales. Brand recognition right off the bat.

But when I started touring, I was told by my booking agent that many promoters wouldn't work with me because they had been burned in working with other Idols before me. Lack of sales, lack of promotion, lack of success at radio, diva-esque attitudes all played a huge role in that. I had to go out and prove that the Christian market was truly where I was called to be; I had to prove that I could sell tickets; I had prove I didn't have an attitude; and I had to prove I wasn't the same as those before me. Since I began touring, I have averaged about 400 tickets a night when I headline (obviously sometimes much, much more, sometimes much, much less - I played a show last year on the acoustic tour to 9 people...who ALL came to see the opener - haha). And it continues to grow. Idol allowed people to come to shows right off the bat. But promoters wouldn't book a sure thing. Double-edged sword.

Even my top 5 single "Empty Me" was subject to the double-edged sword. There were many stations that wouldn't play the song at first because I was an Idol. To put it in perspective: Chris Tomlin's single off their new record was on all reporting stations within 6 weeks of coming out. "Empty Me" got it's last add 16 months after we went to radio. We were lucky to get a top 5. The fact it was up for song of the year at the Dove's was only because it had tested so well with the stations that played it over a year's time. The song worked because I'd come from Idol But it took so long to catch on because I came from Idol. LOL..the double-edged sword.

All that to say this: I am eternally grateful for what Idol has done for me. But I have made a tough decision to remove Idol from my life. In talking about promoting the new album with my new label I have made it clear that I want no mention of Idol in any of my promo materials. With venues we are beginning to make it clear that in promoting shows, Idol is to have little to do with promoting the shows. I am removing Idol's effect from my career. I've paid homage to what Idol has done for me. Now, it is time to move on as Chris Sligh the artist. Not Former American Idol Chris Sligh. Idol didn't give my talent to me. It didn't develop my talent. It didn't get me my new record deal - my last record's success and my artistry did. It gave me a chance that I was able to take advantage of...nothing more, nothing less.

Even in commenting on American Idol it's a double-edged sword. Most people see that my commenting is tongue-in-cheek and as a fan. Still, others view my comments as disrespectful to the thing that "made me". Most see that my comments about contestants comes as a fan who happens to have "been there, done that". Still others view what I do as jerk-ey and insensitive to the feelings of a bunch of kids who will never read my comments. Haha...it's a double-edged sword.

With all of this in mind, it seems a bit hypocritical to be tweeting about Idol and Idols as much as I do. So, as of today, I am making a conscious decision to delete Idol from my publishing life as well. I will not be commenting on Idol any longer. I think that this is the season to stop: it's so horrible that I can't imagine that I will have ANYTHING to say but negative...and I am simply trying to control how much negative I have a part in. Well, I may throw a comment in every now and then...but not en force like it has been in the past.

So, Idol is a double-edged sword...but it won't be with me any more. I'll end with this:

American Idol, thanks for the joy you've given me for the last 3 years, both in my career and seeing how other's succeed. But I've got to let you go now. Time to move on! Good luck to you in the future...you are loved.

Chris,

I won't even pretend to know the drama that Idol has brought to your life. All I can say, is I am glad you were on. As your sister in Christ, I welcome performers that not only have vocal quality, but also Praises God in all you do.

Sadly, your true fans love your comments on the show, especially on Idol night. But there is always psycho fans that blow it for the lot.

You do what you need to do for you and your family. Just remember the psychos will always be psychos. If they aren't picking on your words, they are looking for someone else to bash. They don't count much anyway!!

Kimmy, thanks for the comments. I honestly have been coming to this decision for a long time and I can pretty honestly say that very little of this decision (maybe 5%) comes from the "idiots" that get ticked when I comment on their favorite Idol EVAH!!! This decision has more to do with moving on from Idol than a reaction to the crazies. And like I said, I'm sure I'll throw something in every now and then. I just can't help it. But it won't be just about Idol.

Thanks SO much for your support!

Without American Idol, I wouldn't have found you & your music & the rest of the Fro Patro (at least so soon!) So for that I am thankful for Idol.

I have always found your comments and explanations about your experiences with Idol to be enlightening and honest - and SMART. You make no bones about what Idol DID do and DIDN'T do for your career -- and you try so hard to warn other Idols and to share your wisdom, only to have tons of negative backlash from defensive fans ... not to mention a deaf ear turned to you from some (maybe all?) post-season 6 Idols.

I can see why you want to stop commenting on Idol & I respect that decision. Although I will selfishly miss seeing your live blogging play by plays because it makes it SO much more entertaining. I wish everyone appreciated you for your wit, rather than getting mad when you say one teeny negative thing about anybody. (Eh except I guess I would've gotten defensive about you, too, back in the Season 6 days..) Ah well. I digress.

Good post, Chris.

ChrisSligh said...

Lori,

Like I told Kimmy...the fan backlash honestly doesn't bother me. In fact, sometimes I think I enjoy laughing at those guys just a little too much. You should know me well enough by now to realize I would never make a decision like this as a reaction to people being jerks. I welcome jerks...again, maybe a little too much. My decision honestly has more to do with simply moving on that in reaction to anything said or done to me or against me...I've got thick skin.

I mean, even when people are completely negative about me, I've tried to reach out and find some common ground. Some people you just can't get anywhere. Others, it goes a long long way. Some people are literally crazy over their favorite. Some love an Idol but realize that not everyone feels the same...if anything the crazies to go off when I say something negative make me WANT to do it more...not give it up LOL. That's probably a bad thing.

Anyway, this is the right thing to do for my career. Nothing else...

I would never have known who Chris Sligh was if it wasn't for Idol. I still remember how much my husband and I liked you and your humor from the start.

We have watched you and your career since and are big fans.

I too, love your comments on Idol night. I will miss them. But I understand the limits on negativity, too much of that in life as it is. And you got to do what you got to do.

Chris-Long time, no hear from! This is one the best gifts I could have gotten for my b-day-seeing you on the blog!

I'm glad you've made the decision you have. "Idol" is just a door opener-YOU did all the hard work to get to where you are. I think some people think that just because they are on "Idol" their lives will instantly change for the better and they'll have fame and fortune. The real world doesn't work that way, one has to put in hard work to get anywhere.

Personally, I think this year's season of "Idol" will be its last. The contestants are not good, Ellen is not good as a judge (though I like her on her show), and Simon's rude/crass comments have worn out their welcome. Certain past Idols are making themselves and the "Idol" name look bad by letting their experience on the show go to their head. It was also VERY RUDE of "Idol" not to mention that you had co-written "Here Comes Good-bye.

I hope everyone had a great weekend and that warm weather will eventially be on the way!

Chris,

I'm with Lori in that I'm grateful for Idol for introducing me to you and your music and the friends I have met following your music. Aside from that I really don't associate you with AI anymore. I feel like you've long moved on so I think it's a good move to make a public statement that says, thanks for the memories but I'm moving on.

While I know no one loves a debate better than you I think maybe energy focused on more positive pursuits is a good thing, so I think you've made a good move.

I'll miss your AI nite tweets because honestly this season sucks so much it's really the best part of the nite for me. That said I get tired of seeing one of my fav artists get beat up all the time from the die hard fans of other idols that really don't understand sarcasm and tongue in cheek humor.

Let's face it as long as we're living we're all still a work in progress. It makes sense to periodically assess and make sure you're being true to who you. Your life has taken amazing twists and turns in the last 3 years and you have a body of work to this point to be proud of and personally I think the best is yet to come.

HstryQT said...

Oh yes very true Chris. I know the haters amuse you :). Sorry to imply a correlation between your decision & the negative backlash. I guess I mention it because it annoys ME.

Also, if you're ever mentioned on the View again, it'll be for some positive thing. Not because MJ posts your blog as a news story - thought that was funny though!

risalea said...

Oh, wow, where to start?

I tweeted my comment to you that I thought it was an excellent decision on your part, though selfishly, I am definitely going to miss the play by plays. (and I laughed out loud when I read MJ's comment on her blog)

It was interesting for me to read about the difficulties you faced out in the "real" music world due to your Idol connection. Overcoming those kind of prejudices to end up being nominated for two Dove awards speaks to your work ethic and excellent business plan (not to mention some good music and no doubt, lots of time spent on your knees in prayer!)

But on the other edge of that sword, I'm getting a little teary eyed thinking about the "what if's" if you'd never been on Idol. Like so many, I googled you due to loving you on the show, found the blog, and in the process found a friend named Chris and a whole bunch of others who have enriched my life so much, and have become as good of friends as any that I have here at home.

I think God used Idol for a purpose in your life, just as He used it and this blog as a vehicle to bring us all together. And now, the purpose has been served and it's time to go onward and upward to whatever lies ahead.

It's a very exciting time as you finish your next album and unveil it to the world. It's also a time when you need to be surrounded by positive vibes in your life. And it might keep you out of trouble. ; )

Good decision, good post, now going for my Kleenex.

Does this mean that you'll refrain from speaking ill about other Idol contestants?

gdahimself said...

I was never a fan of American Idol, partly because of scheduling, most because of choice. I’ve never seen an entire segment.

I was quickly put off by Simon Cowell’s rather cavalier “critiques”. While aware you are doing people a disservice of encourage contestants at something they are still under prepared for or possibly not a realistic career goal, he in his “honesty“ not only didn’t let the contestants in search of validation down easy, he too often used a callus degree of brutality that wasn’t warranted. I think he enjoyed the degree of popularity it brought.

Curiously I discovered Chris because of the show, Access Hollywood had a segment about him being cut from the show with a clip of him singing and I elected to investigate further.

What became apparent in viewing clips on YouTube and auditing sound files elsewhere was, in the overall scheme of things, he on Idol was at masquerade party. Songs performed on Idol were glittering pop compared to his own/other songs performed/recorded off the show, which tended to be in the singer - songwriter type.

I’ve seen the liabilities of the Idol association, such as Sam Sessa’s first blog entry on Chris at the Midnight Sun (the tacit assumption that Idol was the major highlight of Chris’ career), another news writer including Chris in an article having disparaging things about the unattractiveness of various people in popular entertainment (given his photo, he was out of line commenting on anyone’s appearance), and at YouTube, when I comment about the differences between Chris’ and Mutemath’s performance of “Typical”, I got a reply that basically said “Dude, Let me give you some advice, never compare a real musician to some on American Idol. It’s really insulting.”

As pointed out, his continued association wasn’t a pure undiluted joy. I think putting Idol behind is a good thing and it really should of happened a bit sooner, I believe it has been a distraction that has taken his attention away from other things, possibly from moving forward faster.

ChrisSligh said...

First off, guys, thanks for all the "what ifs"...obviously Idol lead me to you guys, so it's all good...I myself wish I could've gotten the chance to succeed without Idol. But it just didn't happen that way. So I'm glad for Idol and all it has allowed me to accomplish...but really even more: all it has allowed me to experience. I'm very very lucky.

Secondly, the anon: I've NEVER spoken ill about other idols. Never. Speaking ill about someone is commenting on their looks in a disparing way, talking about their sexuality or religious affiliation....things that are none of my business...personal things in other words. There is a large, large difference between those things and things that Idols talk about in public or sing...these are things I do have a right to have an opinion to. And so do you. It's not speaking ill to not like someone's music or voice and to say so. It is speaking ill to talk about that someone's fat and should have a heart attack and die (which I have been told many times, btw.)

Can you see the difference there?

Chris

I'm glad that you are at a point in your career where you can put American Idol behind you.

I'm sure you'll see/hear some criticism about this, as I've seen for other former Idol contestants who, like you, have tried to move on from being "whoever" from American Idol.

I think sometimes the viewers/voters tend to feel slighted sometimes when artists move on, because those viewers/voters feel that their patronage somehow helped those artists succeed. (Why they take something like that so personally, I'll never know).

It's interesting to see that even the media tends to credit former contestants' success entirely to Idol. If the show was that powerful, wouldn't all of the winners have had equal amounts of success (e.g. record sales)?

Anyone with any sense could tell you that even with the exposure American Idol provides, you still have to actually have talent, make good career decisions and work very hard to capitalize on that exposure. I believe your success is a testament to that.

Chris,I agree with all the other blogger girls that if it hadn't been for Idol, I would have never had the chance to meet you and become friends with you and all the other fans. That has been a blessing. Plus Deliah would have never met you and think of you as her best friend. She still calls you that and still asks if your coming to her birthday parties. I for one forget that you were actually on idol once in awhile.
I also will miss the "tweets" during the show. It always makes me feel like we're all watching it together.

I agree that it must be hard to get rid of the Idol stigma that seems to come along with it.

Idol of course helped you start your foundation on a higher level but your determination and hard work is why you're where you are today.

I'm of course thankful for Idol bringing you to us and bringing everyone together over the last 3 years. I've only actually 'met' Carmen but everyone has been a great & supportive little family over the years.

I'm excited to see where things lead from here on out & can't wait for the album!

Chris,
As always, a great read.
I understand your decision and see the wisdom in it but still mourn your exit as I did that night in April 2007. Last Tues and Wed was fun watching Idol along w/your tweets. Especially when HCG came on!
For entertainment value for myself, Idol has been a wild 8 year ride! I am extremely thankful for the various ways I have gotten an insider view from you over the years. And nothing can compare to my adventures since season 6 getting to know you, and the Fro-Patro family.
I have marveled a bit that you had not made this move sooner. But the longer the delay, the more fun I would still have w/the show. SO...I will miss the interaction and opinions but it looks like it really is the best thing for your future. So, I'm ALL for that! Maybe you can beat Ellen D to the world domination pinnacle! I will always be a voice at the bottom cheering you on! :o)

LOVE Stacey's scripture! ha ha

Here's my AI story. I am a fan of the show. Have been since season 1. I enjoy it for the entertainment of discovering new music talent and watching how people become "stars" or find a way just to make a living in the entertainment business.
I really do like to see people from the show succeed. I remember you from the show & there was a part when watching it (weather my impression was right or wrong I don't know) that thought you didn't want to be on the show.
I liked your voice but didn't vote for you because of that (sorry). I also remember liking your song Empty (hope the title is right). I saw your CD in Walmart. I came close to buying it but didn't at the time because I didn't think you wanted me in your audience. After all I am an Idol fan and I am a woman over 30 Knowing you post on VFTW those were really my thoughts.

Hey guys,

I'm sure we'll have some idiot comments like the anon...let's just ignore them, as opposed to feeding them. They made a decision about me a long time ago and no matter how much truth there is to the opposite they believe what they believe. Let it go. Believe me, it's hard for me...I hate when people are ignorant or stupid...I couldn't care less if they don't like me...just ignorance and stupidity that bothers me. But someone gave me a proverb recently that was something like this: argue with fools long enough and you end up looking like a fool, too. That killed me. Gotta let it go.

Rodney, dude...you've been one of the few Idol-related sites that's treated me as something more than a former Idol. I'll always have time for you, man!

To Ehios (and others who have wondered): the reason I made an announcement isn't for the over-dramatizing of it. It's because A) this is my blog to talk about what the crap I want to talk about. I didn't email MJ or any of the sites who picked this up and ask them to run it on their sites. I wrote this for my blog followers. No one else. I don't give a care about what the others think. But I now my blogger girls love my Idol comments and I wanted to let them know why they weren't going to be happening any more.

B) It's widespread opinion that this is one of if not THE worst season of Idol. It's easily the worst top 24 (season 1-3 & 8 had top 36). So, is it negative to end with that? I dunno...maybe...was making the point that it's something I have to do. I have a very sarcastic sense of humor. Sarcasm is hilarious. But sarcasm most of the time focusing on making fun of something in a negative manor. It is fun. It is funny. But I felt like when it came to what I was doing online, I was so consumed with being sarcastic and funny and having the best one liner about what I was seeing that I was forgetting who I am called to be as a believer: and that is a light.

Hope that makes sense!

And the anons who may stop by and make stupid comments: the last paragraph when I said, "Well, I may comment every now and then." That was on purpose. It's called tongue-in-cheek. I know I won't be able to resist 100% of the time. So I'm making fun of it, up front. It seems like reading comprehension isn't up high on the list for most silly Idol fans. How did my fans get to be so smart?

Chris

ChrisSligh said...

Anon 11:28,

Wow...this actually makes me sad. It means I've presented myself wrong online, which is exactly why I'm making these changes.

First off, I did want to be on the show. I just didn't want to sell my soul like I felt like I was being asked to...My contract is up in 4 months and I'll blog a bit about my actual experience on Idol. But you were right and wrong about that part.

As far as not wanting you in my audience...wow...completely wrong. Ask the blogger girls if I love over 30 women who are Idol fans. Cuz with the exception of 1 of them, they all fit the bill. And it's become a family. I guess I don't make it clear: I LOVE Idol fans. I don't love Idol fans who cuss me out because I don't agree with their opinion on their favorite (which happens more than you would want to know). But in calling out those idiots, I have to assume I've made you - the Idol fan whose in between being an Idol fan and Chris Sligh fan - feel like you were unwanted.

I'm sorry. Truly sorry.

And this is why I'm making a change.

I truly hope you'll reconsider.

This season of Idol can't be any worse than the atrocious 6th season where you placed 10th and had the nerve to give a shout-out to Dave of Vote For The Worst.

You were always an anarchist. Unfortunately, you killed your own career. You were very popular that season and many people, including myself, had you pegged for the top three and were wishing and hoping you'd get there. You turned on Idol and America turned on you.

I won't even pretend to think that Freemantle or 19 Entertainment asked you to cease and desist offering your negative slant on all things Idol.

It may be a double-edged sword but you don't seem to realize that you're the one hoisting the weapon.

Good luck and I hope you will now turn your energy to bearing something fruitful.

Chris,

I knew this blog post would test my restraint and push my patience way past it's limit because I knew what to expect in the way of replies. Sigh.

That said it may all be worth it because to see you publicly say you love the Blogger Girls, well it's heart warming to hear and reinforces the very reason I started following your career to begin with. Aside from killer chops and wicked sense of humor (admittedly lost on some folks) you are what alot of artists are not and that is real. And yeah that gets you in trouble with those who can't handle the truth but I think staying true to yourself is more important than selling out to placate those who don't agree with you.

In my opinion you've never thrown AI under the bus and I think you had plenty of reasons to. I think it will become really clear over the course of the next few years as ex-AI contestants are released from their contracts and the truth about the way they treat people comes out.

IMO this season of AI is the worst ever and there have been some fairly sucky seasons. I think AI has just about run it's course evidenced by Simon's departure. I was hoping Ellen could breathe some life into the show but it's not working. Simon is a genius business man and it's clear he realizes the show's demise is fast approaching or he wouldn't be jumping ship. Eh, that's fine by me I lost true interest seasons ago.

Anyway, that's all I got... I'm off to pick out a new black outfit to attend your career's funeral.

Sending you nothing but love from DJ in AL!

ChrisSligh said...

Gerrit,

Most people would disagree with you on the season 6 comparison to season 9. And there was more to coming in 10th than you may know, but unfortunately I can't talk about it...don't know that I ever will (even when I'm legally allowed), in light of what I've just decided in this blog.

To say I killed my career is ignorant. Ignorance, by definition isn't a bad thing. It just means you don't know what you're talking about. There's a lot I don't know about: Ice skating, hockey, etc. But to say that I killed my career before my "career" even started is silly and ignorant.

Look, simply, at the facts. I've done more since Idol than at least 85% of top 12 Idols have done. I have more of a career than some 1st and 2nd place finishers have at this point. That isn't cocky to say...it is truth. I've had more billboard chart success than many of the Chosen Ones (including Adam Lambert) have had. I've written more hits than 95% of Idols combined. Do you see where I'm going? I mean seriously...my sights were never set on doing well in a reality competition that's less of a competition than anyone on the outside knows. My sights were set on making a career in the real world. Which I have.

There, I have at least tried to aid your ignorance. I'm truly sorry that I didn't live up to the top 3 finish that you hoped for me. I never hoped for that myself. I knew what no one else on my season knew: I had multiple record deal offers waiting for me. I was in contact with labels during my entire run on Idol. Doing well on American Idol was superfluous...it was un-needed. I didn't want to be a pop star. I didn't want to be an Idol. I used Idol like no one has before or since. I won. They didn't. Whereas Idol & 19E have broken most also-rans, I have rules in the Idol handbook that are because of me. I played the system and won. Does that make me an anarchist? Um..I guess so..."a person who causes chaos or upheavel" - not sure I ever did that...but whatever, I'll take it from you, I guess.

And just so we're clear, the one mistake I made during my Idol run was under-estimating how big VFTW was. When I said "hi Dave" I honestly thought I was giving a shout out to 50 kids behind their computers and they would be excited like any other fan group, and it would end there. Oops. Little did I know that VFTW was as big as it was.

VFTW was mean to me, but I thought the things they said about me were funny. I could take a joke. Which is what VFTW is: a big joke with a bunch of kids (& adults) having fun making fun of a silly, meaningless reality tv show. Do I agree with everything they say? No. I voted for George Bush twice and disagreed with 75% of what he did, but I'm proud that I voted for I thought was the best at the time. In the same way, I like VFTW for the things I like about VFTW. I mute the rest. That's what we're supposed to do as humans, right? We shouldn't write someone or something off completely b/c we disagree with certain things about it, right?

Anyway, all of this doesn't make me smarter than any other Idols. It doesn't make me more talented than other Idols. All it says is that I went in knowing what I wanted and I got it because of hard work, some lucky breaks and trying to be smart about the way I chased after things in my career after Idol was finished.

As far as Freemantle asking me to cease and desist. Don't make me laugh. Those guys know I've said nothing wrong.

And Idol is a double-edged sword for every Idol. not just me. I have to assume from your comments that you didn't read the whole blog, which is usually what happens with hit and runs. The anecdotes in the blog aren't just mine. I have heard many idols say they wish they'd never done the show. I never said that myself. I just said that Idol helps and hurts. Which is NOT an opinion. It is certifiable truth.

Anyway, you are entitled to your opinion about me. You aren't entitled to an opinion about whether the facts in the blog are true. Because they aren't opinion. Only 100 people have come off of Idol and experienced the double-edged sword. And really the first 3-4 seasons didn't get the same backlash, if you look historically. Really it's been the last 3-4 seasons that have experienced what I'm talking about.

Anyway, hope that makes sense. You and I can disagree about opinions. I'll never argue over opinions. I will however argue about facts. Unfortunately, you have very few facts in your arsenal about this specific subject.

Peace and love,
Chris

Anon 11:28, let me reiterate Chris's point that a great number of his bloggers here are over 30. And I just love that it's given me the opportunity to make some older friends.

Hope y'all are having a FAB Monday! I have 3 meetings tonight, all scheduled within 30 min. of each other at 2 different locations. I'm still trying to figure that one out! ; )

Don't know if you are Girl or not, but you are definitely age appropriate to be one of the Blogger Girls. Trust me only one member really still qualifies as a girl and she's really more of a chick with a baby. Maybe we should change our name to the Blogger Chicks? Something to think about.

Anyway all are welcome here and we even have honorary positions available for a guy or two. (Just ask GDA and Harry)

And BTW thanks alot Chris for outing the Blogger Girls' ages! Man, I know your Mom taught you better than that:)

Dang, I cannot type without making a boo-boo. Trying again:

Hey, if Chris wants to say I'm over 30, I'll take it, as opposed to what he actually could have said! Even Chris is over 30 now! LOL

I can't believe my girls are giving me a pass on my earlier comment! ; )

DJ in AL said...

Risa,

Well that's a good point, and I keep hearing all this junk about 50being the new 40, 40 the new 30, etc. etc. So I really have no idea how old I really am:)

And yes dear Sista, you have been given a pass. You have enough to worry about planning for Fro Head's AR concert next month! Consider your B'day gift this year.

Well this has been a very interesting blog. Gotta agree with DJ that it has been very hard to restrain myself today but I am following the Fro Head's example.

Chris,
I think that this is a wise decision and I do think that the time has come for you to move on from AI. However, as the blogger girls have already expressed, I am one who is glad that your friend Don Chapman offered to take you to Birmingham to audition for the show. I am also glad that you are the type of person who has let his fans really get to know you and made yourself so accessible to all of us. So much so, that we feel like we have made great friends in you and Sarah. I don’t think there is anyone else who has been on Idol that has done that for his/ her fans. (though I could be wrong – not trying to offend anyone) You have created a great atmosphere here with your blog that is unique compared to all other Idol contestants and I know that was your intention from day one: to have a place where we can all come together, get to know each other and connect with you. Sometimes I think because you are so accessible that a lot people who don’t understand your humor feel they have the right to blast you when you say something that they either don’t agree with or they just don’t get. I guess I am saying that your accessibility to all of us can be a double edge sword as well.
Thanks for mentioning the blogger girls (exception being Lori & Tawny) in the 30 & over crowd. Since most of us qualify for senior checking discounts your comment was quite flattering not to mention how heartwarming to know you love the blogger girls whether we are older or younger than 30. And yes Risa we are giving you a pass. LOL

Happy Birthday GDA & Amy. Sorry I am late to the party as usual!

Ladies,

First, regarding the age controvesy,
My Mother most of my life when asked her age usually replied "21 plus".
The town pool badges for a long time if you were over 21 listed your age as "A" for adult.

Second, thank you for the birthday wishes.

Lori, yep you'd be the Chick with a baby. I guess I should have said cool Chick with a baby cause being cool is definitely a requirement to be a Blogger Girl:)

Carmen, seriously? Sr. Citizen discount?? I love ya more than my luggage but we're seriously gonna discuss this issue:)

and lastly, if you want to hear some news that will make your head pop off (mine did) check Chris on Twitter. Pretty cool stuff!

Chris,

I must say I am glad you have come to this decision. You were going to make it in the bussiness with or without AI. I knew from the first time I heard your very first album (BERG/Vessel) at NGC that you had the talent to make it.

The other night at your show in Washington NC when they kept refering to you as "Former AI finalist Chris Sligh", I looked at my wife and said when are people going to start refering to him for what he is (an awsome singer/songwriter) rather than something that he did that most people have forgot about anyway. I have thought for the past year that AI has been holding you back, several times when talking to differnt people about you I would say he was the chubby funny guy with the curly hair on season 6 that wanted to make David Hasselhoff cry, and most of the time they were not really sure who i was talking about, however then i would say he sings "Empty Me"...then more often than not I would get the response..."I love that song"...

The one bad thing about you removing your self from Idol is you will not be able to make a T-Shirt that says Making the Hoff cry daily - CHRIS SLIGH
Let your talent and hard work take you where God wants you, AI is done doing anything good for you, and will probally be done for the rest of the world by then end of next season, if not this one...

By the way,
It was great to see you in Washington, NC. I wish I would have had time to chat with you a bit more, but there were folks behind me in line and i didnt want to make them wait.

Maybe we can get you to come back to eastern NC for Back to School 3. I am about to start planning for a fall youth event...maybe we can find a slot in your tour.

Hischild said...

Wow! This blog can go from 0 to 60 in a nano-second!

In Nashville last year, DJ and I had a little discussion trying to analyze just what this unusual attraction was for us (ahem...shall we say over 21? *GDA*) ladies. We never quite pinpointed it. Odd that the majority of your core fans fit this one particular demographic. You, my friend, are not a chick magnet. You seem to be a hen magnet! Which is really good news for a married guy in your line of work in his 30's!

But I think I've come up w/the reason behind this mystery. Aside from your obvious talent and humor, it has been your transparency AND (as Carmen mentioned) your accessibility. Do NOT read that T & A!!! To think we could "talk" to you and you would "talk" back to us on your blog while you were touring w/Idol. How COOL was that? Yah, who else did that?

It has also been the reason you are such a lightning rod. Some people can't handle transparency. They want the stars they follow to be up on a pedestal NOT just a regular person like themselves. I just can NOT relate to a person who says all the right things all the time. I CAN however, really get behind a guy who daily seeks to please the Lord without pretending he's arrived already.

Congrats, Chris on your new label. I, too, remember purchasing my first CCM albums on that label back when I was a young chick! :o) Ever MORE excited for your future!

I just want to say thank you to those who are donating to our upcoming concert as "Friends of the League." We are printing a program to be given out that night that will focus on our project, talk about Chris, and highlight our donors. Big corporations aren't as free with their money in this economy, but lots of smaller donations can add up to just as much. Sometimes you gotta think out of the box. I agree with the Idol decision you have made. Its like a bad girlfriend, never faithful. Time to move on although there will always be some association. It is better to move on and it is obvious they will never give you credit for anything. I talked to another guy who made it to the three rooms and to hollywood week the other day. He isn't even watching this season. He is also done with them. In the real world even my family doesn't really remember who I was friends with four years ago.

WE will miss T/W/Th on Idol of watching the show with laptops present being entertained by your tongue in cheek commentary - It was LOL fun. Obviously God led you down the path he did for a reason. No other Idol contestant has ever stood up to Simon the way that you did and got away with it.

I enjoy your music. I do NOT view you as someone who was on Idol. Matter of fact, when I first heard "Empty Me" I looked you up and then discovered you were on Idol.

I view you as a Christian Artist who has some great music out there and Empty Me is an incredible song with a great meaning.

Chris,

I liked it that you gave AI some kudos. I also know that it is your amazing TALENT and willingness to WORK that has gotten you further than some thought possible. I applaud you!

I also think you are smart to rise above the snarky fans who could pull you into "battle". I bet you were on a debate team in college?
You just are not on the level those guys are and I think it was besmirching your "good guy" image to spar with them on twitter. I had to cringe at times although I could see your point. People like that can never be satisfied. IF you can answer one point, they drop it and make another accusation.... and it just goes on and on. There is a Proverb that talks about "letting it go" .

I wish you all the best!

BTW, Chris, you are about to learn the first hard lesson of parenthood. All gifts for the parents stop. From this point on, it's all about the bambino! LOL

I'll let the thesaurus tell you how I'm feeling for you and Sarah right now:

Main Entry: happy
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: in high spirits; satisfied
Synonyms: blessed, blest, blissful, blithe, can't complain, captivated, cheerful, chipper, chirpy, content, contented, convivial, delighted, ecstatic, elated, exultant, flying high, gay, glad, gleeful, gratified, intoxicated, jolly, joyful, joyous, jubilant, laughing, light, lively, looking good, merry, mirthful, on cloud nine, overjoyed, peaceful, peppy, perky, playful, pleasant, pleased, sparkling, sunny, thrilled, tickled, tickled pink, up, upbeat, walking on air

In other words, EXCITED! I love being an auntie!

Cathy Storms said...

Congratulations again to Chris and Sarah, and the rest of the family!

Belly bands are the bomb! Good choice, Lori. One of my must have items (for after the baby comes,) was ultimate crib sheets. They are waterproof sheets that cover only the top of the mattress and attach to the crib slats. It makes middle of the night sheet changes SO much easier, no having to remove the bumpers and the mattress to get a whole new mattress pad and fitted sheet on. I would definitely use them again if I had any more kids. Which I won't.

Rosalee, have you heard anything about what else is happening in Michigan the weekend of March 20/21 besides what is already listed?

I read about half of the comments so far-- and wow. I think I'll just jump on and add my two cents.

Spouse and I have always been big music lovers. We went to tons of concerts in our youth, and Spouse used to be the guy who hit the record store on newmusictuesdays-whatever for the very latest from his fav artist. Times may have changed some, and now we are far more likely to be glad to be on our couch in our downtime-- but we do still enjoy music. Watching the music oriented shows on TV has been an enjoyable thing for us.

I wasn't a big fan of Idol the first couple years, because it seemed so gimmicky. Curiousity won out a little, and I watched a bit the year Fantasia won. So, because of her crazy talent(and storyline, because hey, it's ALWAYS about the storyline for people like me!)I gave the next season a grudging chance. We got hooked Carrie's year, and the next season I had my first fangirl fever. (It caught me by surprise, I must say. I used to laugh at people who were like that! LOL.)

I think it really takes becoming a fan for someone to make you understand, just what this show can mean to people. We love the real-life feeling of the contestants, we love the stories we hear, we love somebody talented getting a chance to live out their dreams. We at home get to meet you and the other contestants, and just like Idol Fans do, we all have our favorite seasons. 5 and 6 are mine.

I have seen the struggling of the artists in the post-Idol life, and it can be hard to see your favs having such a hard time. We all want the best opportunities for those favs, and so when there IS success,(like your's!) we are delighted.

I always liked you, and meeting you in person has only proved to me how wonderful a person you truly are-- and so generous of self. You have always seemed like a friend waiting to be met, and I am terribly glad to see your successes and chances at more.
I know tho, you have gone after them with all your heart and might, and have never wavered from being a "good guy". We Idol fans, we truly want that.

You might get some negative feedback from the wanting to "distance" yourself from the Idol branding, but I know you will do so purposefully, and only in a way that will show you want More in life. There were TONS of people, (esp Christian ones) who didn't even know you were on a TV show! Because of you, you helped pave the way for a couple other Idols I could name in that genre. Many people are giving them a chance, now. I think that's great.

I still want all the best for my Idol Favs from S6. I'm still a fan, and hope that honestly, the Idol thing was only a springboard to more. It's not the ride itself.

Thanks for being so candid in your reasonings and in your replies. I have often wondered what it has been like, the Idol thing, behind the scenes.

Has anyone broached the subject of whether twins run in either side of the family? Just askin:)

ChrisSligh said...

No twins. Thank God. Though I would say that getting the planned 2 kids out of the way with one pregnancy would be kind of nice. Only one 2-year time period of no sleep. But alas, it's not twins.

We're only 8 weeks in, so no sex yet. Not sure if we'll find out the sex.

Anyway, glad you guys are so excited.

Chris

risalea said...

I'm loving the "2 planned kids out of the way" statement. Let me tell you about a couple I am VERY familiar with who had a boy and a girl 2 years and 3 mos. apart and thought their family was complete. And then, lo and behold, along comes another baby brother, who is 8 and 10 years younger than his siblings. And alternately, keeps his parents young and ages them prematurely on a daily basis. The names will be withheld to protect the guilty. LOL

No matter how God blesses you (even if someday it's twins!), you're gonna' love them. And when that second one comes around, and you wonder how you could love another one as much as you love the first, it will just be there, spilling over, and you won't even be able to remember your life before kids. And that's ok.

Exciting times.

DJ in AL said...

LOL, Chris, Sarah might not be as enthusiastic as you with the whole "planned 2 kids out of the way with one pregnancy" idea. Just sayin:)

Are you really coming to Wilmington, NC? I can't find any place that tells me a venue or a time of day...I know it's the Azalea Festival and it's the last day but that's all I can find out...

Chris's Azalea Festival date has been cancelled.(April 11th)

Rosalee,

If I'd known that, I'd would've gone to see him in Washington, NC when he was there recently ...I was waiting for the beach one...

Is there a reliable tour list somewhere? I'd like to hope he'll be coming near here again...

EmilyBoo said...

Tawny, your birthday is my anniversary! October is a fantastic month. The 10th is my birthday and the 11th is my anniversary.

I'm also wondering where the most reliable tour list is. I hope March 21 in Macomb, MI is on for sure, because I will have to miss church and Sunday School at my own church to make it, and if it's canceled, I will cry.

Chris, speaking of March 21, when do you plan on getting into town for that date? Because my church (1/2 mile from the church you will be at,) is having Aaron Shust and Downhere the evening of the 20th... it would be awesome if you could join us!

rosalee said...

Robyn/Emilyboo -

The most reliable tour list is on chrissligh.com under the Tour tab. Cancellations happen sometimes and can't be helped. I delete those items when I am notified. In this case, I was notified of the April 11th cancellation last Thursday, but couldn't make the change until now because the website was undergoing maintenance.

The March 21st date is still on. In fact, there was a blog about it last night:

http://thedefshepherd.blogspot.com/2010/03/lakepointe-launch-service-with-american.html

So Emilyboo, you should be set for that date.

Chris,
Just wanted to congratulate you on Sarah's pregnancy. I know that you and Sarah are thrilled. The blogger girls are uber excited and are relishing in the thought of becoming Aunties to your little one. Tell Sarah that pregnancy is a wonderful thing to experience. It is awesome to realize that a person is being formed on the inside of you, and that God trusts you with that life. I know you two will give your new baby the nurturing—both emotional and spiritual—a child needs to grow up healthy and happy in today’s world. You and Sarah are special people who will make great parents.

As for due dates, October 2md or the 9th sound good to me. The 2nd is my birthday and the 9th is my hubby's.

Hubby says if the baby is a boy, you can go with a fishing theme in the nursery and hang the singing fish there.

risalea said...

Um, yeah, the singing fish for nursery decor. Good luck with that one! LOL

I heard from Tammy today...she's coming to the concert! This really is going to be like a mini picnic.

Emily, that's cool! October seems to be a popular birth month. I guess people like to get busy in January lol.

I'd rather have 2 in 1 to only have to deal with one pregnancy but then again one child at a time is expensive/challenging enough!

Anonymous said...

"Singing Fish" theme nursery! LOLOL!

I dunno, but I'm getting a teddybear or bunny rabbit feeling about the intended motif. As long as it is bright and pleasant, you can decorate it with lots of stuff IMO. I went with yellow for both my girls(because we didn't learn the sex of the baby either) but you know? After you put up frilly curtains and hang shelves for the stuffed animals? It really doesn't matter, so long as it is warm, and has a good changing table!(spend money there, and get a good sturdy one! You'll use it a-lot!)

Also? Since you can afford it, get one of those expensive convertible cribs that will morph into a youth bed. It is worth it, for those long toddler years. Seriously. It is safer, than just using bedguards. (That is advice I wish I had taken myself.)

The rest? All negotiable. The clothes, the toys..it all is just fun.:-) You'll find what you are needing as you go. My biggest item that I found I used all the time was a portable playpen. Best money I spent. (Who would have known, at the time?)

Hey Chris & Sarah,

The thing I found I used more than anything else was onesies...get lots of them!!! And snap on bibs, when teething starts those will be invaluable,(the drool factor!) the longer the better...I don't even know why they make itty bitty short ones (a man must've designed 'em)...I don't know maybe they're useful...I just had such big babies they didn't do me much good.

Anonymous said...

Robyn, bibs "...I don't even know why they make itty bitty short ones (a man must've designed 'em)"

Ever consider someone, independent of gender, who designed them never really had to take care of an infant.

robyn said...

Sorrrrry Anonymous(11:33 AM)..just trying to be humorous for the other blogger moms...

Anonymous said...

I know why with the bib thing! It's because firstly, the babies don't like them sometimes, and pull on them with both hands.(I used them anyway, just at the dinner table for utilitarian purposes.)
and secondly, if you try to leave them on out of a high chair environment? When the kid crawls or moves it would catch on their knees and choke them. yep.

Tiny bibs are helpful for the drooling thing tho. I ruined many an outfit because of the slobbery thing.

risalea said...

Another good investment...a pack of cloth diapers. Not to be used for the original purpose (tried that with the first one for a month...don't recommend it! LOL), but great for a burp cloth, holding under the chin to catch bottle drips, and a myriad of other uses. Oh, and when they are no longer needed for baby, they are the world's best dustcloths! ; )

risalea said...

Hey, Anonymous! I'm not HstryQT or DJ, but we have gotten together for 2 Chris Sligh picnics and numerous concerts over the past 3 years. Some of them are coming to Arkansas in April for a benefit concert Chris is doing here. While we tend to plan our get-togethers around Chris's events, because of the distance we live apart (for example, folks coming to AR from CA, AL, FL, and NY!) we'd plan something to get together regardless.

DJ in AL said...

Hey Anon! I don't think it's at all important who does what, at least I don't think it us to us or anyone who knows us. My whole point of the email was to say hey, you know what, you may think we're weird or whatever but the fact is there's a whole lot more to us than our love and admiration of Chris Sligh or AI. In my eyes the most important thing about the Blogger Girls, Fro Patro, Core Group, and Sligh Fans is that in my opinion we all have heart and stay true to who we are, whatever that may be:)

EmilyBoo said...

Well Lori, he's only been within a decent drive from me a couple times, and I've either been sick or had a family obligation. (In fact, this weekend is my MIL's birthday, but since Chris will literally be five miles from my house on Sunday morning, it doesn't interfere with her dinner, and all I had to do was get another teacher to cover my Sunday School class.) I would have come to one/both of the picnics, but for one reason or another it didn't work out (hubby's vacation time, etc.,) and I don't go on long road trips by myself!
BTW, are there any get-togethers in the works for this year besides Risa's Heaven's Loft shindig? We have not planned any trips yet, so hubby's vacation schedule is wide open as of now.

EmilyBoo said...

So I know you all are just dying to hear about my weekend, right? ;)

I had a bit of a bummed out day on Saturday because I had two tickets to the Aaron Shust and Downhere concert at my church, but could not get a babysitter, so had to go without hubby. (I would have just bought two more tickets for the kids, but from experience knew that they would get tired way before it was over. We had to miss the end of the Tenth Avenue North concert last summer.) So, I went by myself and sat with friends, which was one of the nice things about it being at my church!
As the concert got underway, we found out there was a surprise performer, Laura Story, who sang backed by Aaron Shust's band. She sang several songs, including Mighty to Save and Indescribable. (Did you guys know she wrote Indescribable? I've only ever heard Chris Tomlin sing it. And my choir:) Then Downhere took the stage and I was a little surprised to realize I actually knew (at least parts) of almost every song they sang. I have to say, I really love Marc's voice. Downhere is so cool, I love their sound with the two different lead singers. Then Laura and Aaron talked about Compassion International. (I sponsor a Compassion child the same age as my daughter, and will soon be looking to sponsor one the same age as my son. Penpals!) Aaron sang lots of beautiful songs. Laura Story and Downhere came back onstage and Aaron said something about requests, then said "did I really just say that? We are so unprepared." Haha. But they all did such a nice job, and one of my favorite moments was "Here I Am To Worship," as sung by everyone in the room! After, I bought a shirt and had it signed by all the Downhere guys, who were SO nice. I talked to Aaron for a few minutes, and mentioned I would be seeing Chris in the morning, and he told me to say hi. Then I was talked to my "boss," telling her why I would not be there to teach Sunday School in the morning (and assuring her I had found someone to cover for me,) and Aaron Shust's bass player overheard me and told me Chris Sligh's band are some of his best friends. :)

I had a hard time getting to sleep. Thankfully, the worship service I attended this morning was a bit later than the one I usually attend at my church. ;) I went by myself again... I am not the only one with Sunday School obligations at our church.
I found out the pastor of this new church is a college friend of Chris'. Chris led a few worship songs including Mighty To Save (how cool, I just saw Laura Story perform that last night! haha.) Chris' friend had a very nice message about finding your purpose for God and not allowing things like what others think of you get in the way of that. (My women's Bible study has been talking about this. It really spoke to me.) Throughout the service, Chris sang 4 of his own songs... Something Beautiful, Only You Can Save, Vessel, and Empty Me. (Truly, ALL of my favorites are represented here. Awesome.) I didn't take any video, I would have felt weird doing so since it was a worship service, not a concert.
When I met Chris afterward, he saw that I was wearing a Downhere shirt and asked if I saw them last night. I told him I post here, and he asked "are you Emily?" :) !!! He told me he had been scanning the audience for me. :) He signed my brand new awesome pink glasses t-shirt and I had my picture taken with him. I had my CD in hand but totally forgot to have him sign it. Oh wells.

Those of you who are friends with me on facebook can see a couple pictures from my fabulous weekend there. I know some of you already have while I've been typing this. Sorry so wordy...

I also have the pink shirt with the glasses on it. Chris signed my BTST2 shirt. I think it's cool that you got to see Chris at a worship service! I love "Only You Can Save" and "Empty Me"! I can't wait to go over to Facebook and see your pictures. Like you, I am hoping there will be another time to get together other than Risa's concert (I am not able to go).

Now for the day you can meet all of us! I am planning a trip to Nashville April or Summer 2011 for my 50th bday celebration. Would be SO cool IF it would SO happen that there was another picnic or Dove Awards happening and we could all gather.
With Chris'next album being SO awesome and all, I would expect that he would be nominated and SWEEP that thing! :o)

Doves next year? Sounds like a plan to me! (but please, would the Doves planning committee please check with me first, as we might be having Lindsay and Magnus's wedding next spring instead of this fall, due to trouble getting the in-laws from Sweden here-that's a whole 'nother story!)

Now, aren't you glad you got someone to cover your Sunday school class, Emily?

I come on occasionally... actually since I saw "mean old idol chris" discussed on the View!
I had to post that I am amazed at the group of friends all of you seem to be. Am I right that none of you live close to each other? and that it is from AI you met each other?
I was especially charmed by what Emily-Boo has posted about meeting Chris. Does he ever go to KY?
Is it just "fan-talk" or do you really think he could be a Dove winner?
Interesting.

EmilyBoo said...

Anon,
Yes, we are pretty scattered. We have Michigan, Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, New York, Indiana, Arizona, California... where am I missing, girls? And this particular group is really friends because of Chris, not idol... although I suppose idol precipitated it, timing-wise.

I'm glad you liked my post. What was it that so charmed you? That Chris knew who I was even though we'd never met? I was happy, though not too surprised... I know he pays attention to what we write here. He also apparently notices our little profile pictures, because when he said he was looking for me in the audience, he also said he knew I wear glasses... and as you can see, I don't use a real picture of myself here.

We certainly believe Chris has a real chance at winning a Dove award. After all, he has already been nominated for two, and the songs he has written for the new album are incredible.

Risa,
Totally worth it. I didn't doubt it for a second.

Anonymous said...

Hi Emily Boo.. To answer your question - I guess I am charmed by the whole friendship - I care about you vibe that comes through on here. I frequent a few other blogs of AI and I was just struck by the "niceness". After the publicity about Chris being so mean and condescending... I guess I just expected something different. When I read your post of the first time meeting him, it had a freshness about it and I could sense your excitement. Then to read what you just said about his looking for you.... like he really cares.... just blows me away I guess to think a big shot can have a friendship with his fans. I read some of the other postings just now and I see "blogger aunties"...??? Just isn't what you expect in a fan community I guess.

DJ in AL said...

Anon,

I know you didn't ask but if you've been lurking here you'll know that ususally doesn't matter:)
I will tell you that what you see here on the blog is the real deal. I know that most will view us as fans (mean people will use the term fantard)but I think most of us will say we feel we have moved a little past the moniker of fan and would go out on a limb and say we are something a little different, hard to describe for sure. Between us, we are without a doubt a family and a community. And it's important to note we accept everyone! Well, if you come here to make fun, belittle and spew hate you're not so much welcome, but you get the point.

Chris has taken the unusual leap of blurring the lines between fans and friends. He has given us real insights into what he has experienced from the very beginning of making the show, making the top 10, getting eliminated, to further developing his own career after AI. I think we all agree that we have had an unprecedented look into his life and because of that we feel like we truly know him. We've heard about auditions, nominations, and contract negotiations. I don't think it's too presumptuous to say that I think Chris views us as maybe a hybrid of a fan/friend. Hmmm..... maybe a fran? LOL!

To your statement "After the publicity about Chris being so mean and condescending... I guess I just expected something different." To that point, I would ask what were you expecting? You have to know that "publicity" doesn't necessarily reflect who someone truly is. You've been visiting here, what do you think? Do you think Chris is mean? Do you think a bunch of professional married men and women would devote time and attention to someone we perceive to be mean and condescending? Of course not. Look, this whole media spotlight thing has been a learning experiece to be sure for Chris. He's learned alot of things the hard way but he has learned. And Chris does believe in speaking his mind and what a mind he has:) He obviously doesn't have a problem with folks disagreeing with his point of view and if we're being honest he loves a good debate.

I'm trying to find a way to tie this altogether. I think what I'd like to say is that we don't travel all over the country (oh Em you left out CO) to see Chris because we're bored and have nothing else going on in our lives. Most of us are professionals, married, and with chidren. Most are involved in an array of activities and organizations. We travel all over the country to see Chris because we love him and we love each other. It's really that simple.

Anon, please keep dropping by. You are welcome here, the more the merrier. And when you're feeling a little more comfortable stop being Anonymous:) Don't be scared we're actually pretty cool people.

Oh, I almost forgot. We definitely are Blogger Aunties and darn excited about it!!!!

Ok, that's it, sorry so wordy but you know me why use 10 words when 100 will do?

Happy Monday!

Oh, ye who gaze with tolerant mein
Upon the song I sing, as tolerantly
I smile with understanding

Setting up fellowship and communion—
Where...tolerant nods and smirks—
Stalk ungodly hours.
Smile on then, thou chanter
Of doleful lays against my singing!
