NOW, it's official

Well, I made a little boo boo by announcing this 2 days too early...apparently everyone is superstitious and until the label announces the single, so my announcing preceding the label announcement is poo pood. But anyway here it is...

Rascal Flatts has recorded "Here Comes Goodbye", a song I wrote with my good friend Clint Lagerberg (who cowrote "Empty Me" with Tony Wood and me).

We finished the song in April last year on a Monday. The demo was recorded on Tuesday and Rascal Flatt's label heard it and put it on hold on Wednesday. Since then we've been waiting around to find out what was happening.

It was the last song they decided to record and from what we've heard, the producer and label (and the band themselves) feels strongly that this song is going to be a good thing for Rascal Flatts. So good, in fact, that the song is officially the band's first single. It goes to radio outlets on Monday. The official add date is Jan 26, I believe. So, listen for my/their song on radios around the world very, very soon!

This is a huge deal! I can't believe this is happening!

Please buy the song when it hits iTunes and buy the record when it comes out April 7!

OK, you know I write these slighmericks and promptly forget them, so now I've got to come up with a new one.

There once was a writer named Sligh
Who wrote the song, "Here Comes Goodbye"
The Fro Patro knew
Rascal Flatts knew it, too
A hit song had come from this guy!

Tomorrow this time is the day
Chris Sligh comes North Little Rock way.
We can't wait to see
Chris, Jon, Clint, Tommy,
The blogger girls are saying hooray!

Lame, lame, lame, I know. But heartfelt. Drive carefully please!

Wow, that's amazing! I've never been a big country fan but I've always really liked Rascal Flatts. I can't wait to hear the song! I don't use itunes so I can't buy it :( but I'll check out album clips incase I want to get it.

Chris-That is so awesome! I knew something like this would happen. You are such a talented person. I listen to country music sometimes, so when the song comes out I'll have to have my brother in Denver download it for me since they can use iTunes (I hate dial-up, it's like having turtle internet service). Rascal Flatts also has a song called Bless the Broken Road which is really cool. Selah also has a verson of it, too.

Risa-I like your slighmerick. I hope you all have fun at the concert and wish I lived closer to y'all so I could go too. Have a safe trip!

By the way, the Empty Me video was just too cool! It was neat to see all the different people and the things they came up. It shows how ordinary people can come together and make something unique and creative! After the deadline to turn in clips I finally thought of someone who could have helped me. Doesn't it always happen that way?

I am sure glad that such a little known band who hasn't won any sort of country music awards would pick your song to record. I sure hope they don't mess it up! Seriously now...how about starting bigger!

Hey All!
Well the concert tonight was electric! There were about 300 people there. Chris's voice was in top form and I would have to say that this was probably one of the best performances I have seen Chris give. He sang "Here Comes Goodbye" and the audience gave him a standing ovation. Actually Chris got several standing ovations tonight. The blogger girls took up the entire first row and I thought we sounded pretty good singig along. Risa got a well deserved shoutout. Video to post soon. That is if DJ doesn't leave me on the side of the road somewhere between here and Alabama.

Ya'll pray for me!!

risalea said...

Y'all pray for me...I have to run interference! : ) And Cathy is just ducking. It was great to see Candy and to meet her mom, Rhonda, in person. The concert was amazing, Chris was dead on with every song and his rapport with the audience was amazing. "Here Comes Goodbye" was just absolutely the best. I'll write more tomorrow when I'm not quite so brain dead. BTW, we had a little surprise for him...a cake that said "Here Comes a CMA". Thank you to the blogger girls who were so much help and support.

The concert last night was awesome!! Chris's voice was so beautiful and the band was so tight. It was a really fun concert. Lots of audience participation..Loved every minute of it....
Thanks to Chris and the boys for making us feel like "family"...
Will post more later. Today I'm off to San Diego and back to reality..
Had a great weekend with the picnic girls and it was really good to meet Candy and her mom.

You have no idea what a real possibility it is that Carmen will be walking to AL! (I kid..I think)

The concert was in a word, amazing! There was a great crowd and Chris was at the top of his game, his voice was just freaking awesome! When he sang Here Comes Goodbye I thought I would dissolve into a big puddle of goo (that's a compliment in case you can't tell). The band was fabulous and considering how sleep deprived they were that in itself was a miracle.

Risa and her group did a fabulous job of putting on the event, they really know what they are doing.

Little Rock is a beautiful place, I highly reccomend a trip here.

It's been great seeing the blogger girls again, yes Carmen, you too.

Ok, that's all for now. I think between the 4 of us, oh and Candy too (glad to meet you and your sweet Mom) we should have plenty of pics to post.

Wish you all could have been here, it was a seriously good show!

Sending you love from a tired but happy DJ in Little Rock!

P.S. Chris you are NOT to shave your hair!

I forgot to add that "Here Comes Goodbye" was awesome. Tears were flowing.
Also thanks to Risa for all her hospitality and friendship this weekend. I bet she sleeps for a week after having to run us all over Little Rock...

Safe trip home to Chris and the band.
Also to Candy and her mom.
And tomorrow for DJ and Carmen...

Risa I'm glad your cake didn't accidentally say "Here Comes a GMA" :).

Glad ya'll had fun! I'm very sorry I missed it :(. I'm sure hearing Here Comes Goodbye was amazing!

Wow. Congratulations, Chris! I know they're one of the biggest names out there- how thrilling to have them choose a song of yours. I'm not a big fan, though I love "What Hurts the Most," but I'll be listening for this one.

risalea said...

Well, I wish I could say I was less brain dead than I was last night, but I think it may take a few days recovery. LOL
And I made an appointment to do a technical assistance visit tomorrow with a director thinking about starting a new pre-k program. What was I thinking???!!!

We hope to have some video up later in the week. I've been privileged to attend several of Chris's concerts, but I have to say I think this was the best one yet. And Carmen, who's been to many more than I, thought the same thing, so it wasn't just cause he was here. Despite the fact these guys had to drive 12 hours plus to get to NLR from NC, they gave an energetic and spot on performance. Several folks from my church attended, and I had so many nice compliments on the show this morning and they all said how much they enjoyed it. Some were not familiar with Chris, and he definitely made some new fans this weekend.

We've also got pics, and we'll get some up asap. But tonight, the bed is calling me. These girls kept me hopping, but I loved every minute of it. Come back soon...Deb, Carmen, Cathy, Candy and Rhonda!

Chris, Clint, Jon, and Tommy...thank you again for a such a wonderful evening and for helping us help needy families with young children in our community through Heaven's Loft. My heart is full and I am so appreciative. You're the best.

Oh you guys.. I am so dead tired. I took a nap woke up threw pizza at the husband and kiddos Watched Big Love and now here I am getting ready to go to bed. Cathy, I hope you are home and getting some much need rest. DJ and Carman, I am praying for the both of you and I should have placed bets on whether or not Carmen is stranded. Gotta get that picnic stash started. LOL. I had a great time and so did the Queen of everything AKA my mom. Chris put on an awesome show and the band is full of just sweet guys. Chris too. Be safe guys so that we can all have big fun again. Take care and I am going to bed. I think we should do that common Walgreens account for the pictures that would be the bomb. Good night

Hey Chris -
Serious props for penning the first single for Rascall Flatts - that may wind up being as big a deal for your career as your stint on AI before it's all said and done. RF is a major force in the music biz, and the song is a perfect fit for them. Sorry I've been away from teh blog for so long - but I've been lurking and keeping up with everything -
Again - congrats - this is huge -

Peace -

Tom! Your ears must have been burning, cause the blogger girls were talking about you this weekend, noting we haven't seen you much on the blog. We hope you'll bring your family to the picnic this summer. Date coming soon!

Hi Risalea -

We'll see how the summer schedule shapes up - I would love to be a part of it and bring the family. You can imagine - 4 kids 10 or under - my life is a blur - I do miss being "a regular" here - I just haven't been able to get over to the blog as frequently as I'd like. Please say Hi to all the Patro for me - I am still very much a Chris fan and follow what's going on - hope to stop by more often. You all take care -

Peace

(And I can't seem to log into my Blogger acct anymore - which is why I'm coming up as an Anon - for now)
