So, I've been working for the last couple of weeks with a band out of Colorado called Rough Draft. I'm really excited about this band. I met them out at the GMA Seminar in the Rockies and was impressed with their performance there. I talked with them a little bit back then, and asked to hear more music. Then, in September, we played a couple of shows with them out in Colorado and I was very impressed with their live show. So, I offered to produce them basically for free.
So, since the 5th, the band and their road manager Greg have been staying with Sarah and me, working on a 7-song EP that I think is going to be pretty incredible. The songs range from the rocking single "Calling Me Back to You" to the song the band wrote for their work with Compassion (simply called "Compassion Song") to one of the coolest songs I've ever had the chance to work on "Here I Am" (uses full band plus tympani, cymbal swells, tambourine, a HUGE bass drum, shakers, and various percussion plus massive gang vocals to end the song).
I think that you guys are going to LOVE this band and this EP. I feel strongly that this band is going to be signed and is going to be a major player in Christian music in the next few years. I also think they have the chops to cross over to the mainstream, if the right record label is involved.
Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know about this band. You'll probably get to see them on the Back to School Tour part deux this fall.

I'm interested. Very interested. Saw them on the earlier YouTube posting. They look like a great group. Where/when can we hear them?
Clearsa, they are on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/roughdraftco and they have a website--www.roughdraftband.com. And they have a fan page on facebook.
Niques Nana -
I contacted Christian Living Magazine. The magazine can only be obtained via subscription. It's not in any store.
Cathy's here and she's in shock over how cold it is. You can't take these CA girls anywhere. LOL
When I left San Diego this morning it was almost 80 degrees. When I get into Little Rock it's like 10 degrees at 5:00....Yeah thats cold..OK so it was about 27 degrees it felt like 27 below...
I'm so glad to be here though. Already had my sweet tea and I tried turnip greens. They were actually pretty good. So you can take the CA girl into the south...
Just make it in the summertime next time. lol
Y'all go befriend Rough Draft on myspace. They have a great sound and seem like really nice guys. It will be fun to meet them on the Back to School Tour.
They do have a really good and different sound. So go on myspace or facebook and make them your friends...
And Chris~tour next year. Think California...although, I am sure seeing alot of this beautiful country because of you....And thats a good thing..
One picnic girl down, 2 to go.
Packed and headed to bed.
AR here I come!
Sending you love from an excited DJ in subartic AL!
Rosalee, thanks for the info on Christian Living magazine. I figured that might be the case, however, there is this newsstand in North Park that sells magazines. The guy told me that they carry it, however, he hasn't opened all his deliveries yet. He's supposed to call me tomorrow and let me know if they have it.
Cathy Storms - so glad you made it to Arkansas safe and sound. Take lots of pictures. BTW, it was 84 degrees today in Spring Valley :) I hope you packed warm clothes.
Well this picnic girl is up way too early!! Yikes 2 am!! But I am excited. DJ-- if all goes well-- should be in Alabama around 10 am your time. Then it is off to ARKANSAS!! I hope you don't mind me showing up in a Florida Gator Championship shirt! LOL
And Cathy I am going to be freezing with you. What is up with the cold weather?? I am going to have to ditch my flip flops!!! BRRR!! Too cold for a Florida girl!
Chris safe travels dude!! I think your drive is almost as long as mine. Mine is almost 15 hours. What us picnic girls won't do to see our favorite chubby guy!!
Have fun this weekend ladies! Wish I could be there with you. Literally negative money for such travel, though. :( Can't wait for pictures!
Sounds great! I'm very excited to hear "Here I Am" as well as "Compassion Song." By Compassion, do you mean Compassion International? Love them... I've "adopted" a little girl from Guatemala the same age as my daughter. I love getting letters from her, and hope to meet her some day.
Chris, please bring the Back To School Tour to the Detroit area! ;) And Cathy, be glad you're not visiting me in Michigan! They closed the schools due to the frigid cold and wind chills today! I hope you ladies (and Chris!) all have a great time this weekend! Safe travels!
OK guys I am packing tonight, I have mapquest directions and all the phone numbers for the blogger girls and I have have told mom she HAS to be on time tomorrow morning. I have my babysitter ready to go and it is 12 degrees in Wichita so it sounds like a warm up in Ar. for me. I am totally excited and hoping I can make it through the day today. So I will see you all tomorrow, hopefully around 2.
Take care all!!!
Candy
I'm listening to Rough Draft on myspace right now and love what I'm hearing! Especially I'm not Ashamed (Romans 1:16 is my confirmation verse.) Is there any music currently available to purchase, and when will the new stuff be available?
I found their first album on itunes! I'm buying it! Still wondering when the EP will be coming though.
Carmen & DJ~safe travels. Carmen hope you brought shoes other than flip flops because it is freezing. See you guys later today.
Candy~drive safe and can't wait to see you tomorrow.
Chris~Carmen's so right about what lenghts we go to for one of your shows. Totally worth it. Only for you buddy...
Emilyboo~maybe you should come join us in Arkansas so you can warm up...lol....
It's pretty cold in NY, too. I was out shoveling snow yesterday.
Have a great time, girls!
Waiting on Carmen, she's running late, couldn't find her coat, lol.
Hopefully will be gone by 10:30,
later!
Cathy and I have been running around town today, leaving my good husband, Gaylon home to cook for the girls. (chicken spaghetti!) Deb and Carmen were in Memphis about 15 min. ago, so we expect them by 6. Candy, drive safely and we're looking forward to seeing you and meeting your mom.
I was on radio again today (twice in one week--maybe I've found a new calling LOL). There's a little American Family Radio station in Sherwood and the DJ goes to church with me and has been awesome about promoting us...he's going to introduce Chris tommorrow night.
OK, on to Walmart--my third trip to a store today because I keep forgetting stuff!
Today was so much fun. Risa took me all around Little Rock and showed me the sights. Thanks so much Risa. Now once the girls get here we are off to Risa's house for dinner. Thanks to Gaylon for cooking us a home cooked meal.
Candy~drive safe and will see you tomorrow.
Chris & the boys~you guys also drive safe and will see you tomorrow also. Can't wait.
This is one of those times I wish I could drive or knew someone close by who was going to the concert that I could get a ride with. It sounds like Cathy and Risa are having a good time!
Its cold here in CO and snow's still on the ground-along with sheets of black ice! It is warm here considering the weather in other parts of the country. Lately it has been in the upper 50's.
The only time I've been to the South is to Kentucky (where my aunt lives) and Louisiana (my aunt used to live there, too. I remember very little about Louisiana. I really like the southern accents.
Have a safe trip! I'll be with you in spirit. Tell Chris the cowardly purple poodle girl said "Hi"!
Hey guys! ... Dave from Rough Draft here.
First... Thank you Chris for all you've done for us... Sharing us with your fans... and letting us torture your kitty.
Second... Everything Rough Draft can be found at http://www.roughdraftband.com. Including an online store!
Thirdly ... (Thirdly... what a weird word) ... We are looking forward to the E.P. that Chris is producing. He was great to work with!
Blessings,
--Dave
