Thanks, Chris it's working now.
Off to read what looks like a real feast.

I was in a pretty crap mood until I read that. Now I can't stop laughing at the thought of children in washing machines. I think my sense of humor is a little sick.... haha.

It's already a pretty amusing blog, I like it. Carrie, I actually wanted to hide in the washing machine or dryer as a kid.. but I never did for a fear of it being turned on :P

Listening right now to you sing "Vessel" on the Baltimore station. Beautiful.....thank you for this song.

Now that's entertainment. Love the new blog!

I'd like to see you post in theological digressions. It's been almost a year!

I like the new blog, Chris. Is there a link to this one on that page? if not, you might want to add one.
The 3rd grader comment made me chuckle. How many 5-year-olds could you take in a fight? (this was on rickey this morning; it's just awful, but it made me laugh---the survey might be something to do next time while you're sitting in a laundromat at 3 a.m.)

Everything about the song "Vessel" is really beautiful; the music, the lyrics, the emotion behind it -- everything. I've been meaning to say that for awhile now. Thanks for those links, Rosalee.

Oops posting twice in a row, sorry.

We're going to have games here in NLR at Alltel for the first couple of rounds of March Madness. (should have left for Bible class already but waiting on something in the dryer!)

Clarissa -

I just posted the link. I don't have any magical powers to transport myself to radio stations and videotape performances.(LOL)
And now for my less than perfect evening -

An Abortive Attempt to Pass On the HPF CD:

Well, it looks like my HPF CD will live to see another day…

Tonight I went back to the Book Revue (the bookstore on Long Island where I gave Bill Clinton the HPF CD) for another book signing event. This time it was given by veteran radio DJ and on-air personality, Pete Fornatale. This is a DJ that I grew up listening to in NY. He’s been around for a good 40 years on NY radio and has interviewed a ton of artists. He now has a radio show, “Mixed Bag”, which airs on the weekends. He was selling his new book, “Simon and Garfunkel’s Bookends”, written to commemorate the 40th anniversary of that album. In it, he talks about the love/hate relationship between Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.

The event started at 7:00 PM. There were at least 200 people attending. He lectured for an hour about Simon and Garfunkel, interspersing audio clips from old interviews, and comparing those times (politically, etc.) to today. Then I waited on line for about 45 minutes to get the book signed. When it was my turn, after praising him and S&G, I asked him if he watched American Idol. He said he just had a conversation about AI the other day. He doesn’t watch it. He said that it’s “too corporate” and that the quality (of music/talent) coming out of it can’t compare with what we had 40 years ago. He hadn’t heard of Chris. However, I did plant the name in his head, so if Chris appears in a NY newspaper in the next few days, maybe he’ll take notice. I decided not to pass on the HPF CD because he seemed a bit close-minded. I will wait to give it to someone who will appreciate it.
Well, you can't win 'em all...

Rosalee,
I have learned never to underestimate your powers. :o)

Your story was very interesting reading. I'd love to buy that book someday. Have always LOVED Art Garfunkel. Is truly one of the best singers on God's green earth. And Paul Simon a great songwriter. Together they were magical.
Though I may be in the minority here, I could never get into Paul as a person though I have greatly enjoyed about 40 percent of his solo stuff. As for Art, anything he puts his hand to is golden. It's funny that commercially it has been just the opposite.
I have a feeling I would side w/Art in all their "fights". ha ha

rosalee said...

Clarissa -

Pete Fornatale thought that Simon and Garfunkel together as a duo were greater than the two as solo artists. Yes - they were magical.
They, Bob Dylan and a few others really opened up the whole folk-rock world back then. They were very thoughtful writers and spun unique melodies.

That's why Josiah was embraced so readily. He is sort of Dylanesque and unique in a musical world that
has been producing a lot of cliched, formulated pap for a long time.

Do you know what else I think would be magical? If Chris co-wrote with Paul Simon. For his next record,(boy am I thinking ahead!), if it were slanted a little more mainstream, I could see Paul Simon adding his gospel influences to Chris's record (or at least on one of his songs). That would truly be "a pop-rock record with spiritual overtones", as Chris said last year in People Magazine.

risalea said...

That's ok, Tom. I was just excited we made it to the finals. My sis lived in GA for many years, so when I'm not cheering for the hogs, I'll cheer for the Dawgs. : ) I do think Pelphrey is gonna' rock when he is recruiting his own players.

And so glad the dome in Atlanta didn't have worse damage from the tornado with all those folks in there. Gaylon was watching the game that night, and that was a blessing it wasn't worse than it was. Risa

p.s. and per the discussion about Simon and Garfunkel...is folk type music making a "comeback"? With Jason Castro and Brooke White favorites in the current AI group, it makes me wonder.

Cathy Storms said...

Wow..I just read that Kelly Clarkson will be performing for the pope on April 19 in NYC. She is going to be singing Ava Maria.
What an event that is going to be.

HstryQT said...

OMG Simon Cowell is on Oprah right now and he just said last season was "our weakest year." OMG Boooooooo Simon. What's wrong with him?

HstryQT said...

OK well now Simon is somewhat redeeming himself because he's showcasing Terry, Chris' cousin who won Americas Got Talent.

Are ya'll loving my Oprah Show play by play? Random, I know.

risalea said...

Just caught the last half of "Oprah". That was really the first time I got to see Chris's cousin. Wow, he's great!

And Simon did a good thing for that family. There's a heart in there, apparently, at least for little children. : ) That was awesome.

To Rosalee,
From GDA,

"They, Bob Dylan and a few others really opened up the whole folk-rock world back then."

To nitpick, Folk Rock was a creation of The Byrds. Founding members Gene Clark and Jim "Roger" McGuinn's inspiration was The Beatles. They in turn inspired others most notably The Crossfires, who changed their name to the Turtles.
I guess you can include in this group of Beatle inspired folk groups, The Journeymen, who with the addition of Cass Elliot became the Mamas & the Papas.

Chris working with Paul Simon would probably be a hybrid of World folk music, if it didn't show a continuation of "Surprise".
Chris' favoring U2 might be emphasized if Brian Eno, who has produced U2 and worked on "Surprise", was involved.

On Amazon blog it may be of interest to investigate, "Annie Lennox's contribution to Raise Awareness of HIV/AIDS Pandemic"
Use the green page to copy the url, it’s just too long to dissect and assemble from the white page.

GDA -
I knew I'd draw you out with that post!
Yes, Pete Fornatale mentioned the Byrds and the Mamas and the Papas in the same breath as Dylan and S&G.
Did you know and listen to Pete Fornatale?

And thanks for bringing up the subject of the Turtles again. We can't go too long without mentioning them!(LOL)
