Here's the Deal...

Well, the deal is finally done. We got everything worked out with everyone involved and are finally moved on to the long form. So, unless something crazy happens in the long form phase (which rarely if ever happens) then within a couple of weeks, this deal will be done officially, official announcements and press releases will be made and within a few weeks I'll be in a warm, cozy recording studio working on album #2...tentatively titled "All the Angles". For that I am very excited.

The album will still have 14 song plus musical interludes. Some songs have changed...here is the tentative track listing:

1. Intro/Naive
2. Losing My Faith
3. Only You Can Save
4. In the Weak
5. Taking It Back
6. Catching Up
7. Still You Love Me
8. Chasing Down a Name
9. Beginning/End
10. I'm Ready
11. Love is the Answer
12. One
13. Always You
14. Broken/Beautiful

Of the songs on there, the ones I don't think you've heard yet are Taking It Back, Still You Love Me, Love is the Answer and One. Taking It Back was written with Jason Walker and talks about being away from home as much as I am and how it affects relationship. Still You Love Me is song I wrote with Rebecca St. James that ended up not working for her record so I snatched it. It's one of my favorites on the record. I'm really excited about that song. We haven't talked about it yet, but my wish list includes getting Rebecca to come and do vocals on the songs with me (fingers crossed!). Love is the Answer was written with Jon Skaggs. We were just trying to write a cool but different rocker. And finally is One. One is a song I wrote with a guy from Atlanta named Travon Potts. It's really pop and really kinda cool...I'm excited about this one. Similar to the feel of Only You Can Save music wise. Lyrically it's a call for unity, forgiveness and love within the church.

Anyway, more news as it comes!

ETA: Hey I threw One up on myspace.com/chrisslighproductions 2nd song.

Well, this is the best news ever! Something to add to the thanks list for Thanksgiving. So, I'm thinking there will be a new album for the merch table on April 11th? That would be awesome!

Congratulations, we are so excited for you! (And for us!)

YES!!!! Way to go, Chris! Great looking song list. SO anxious to hear them - especially the ones I've never heard yet. Catching Up is my favorite but maybe some of these yet unveiled can top it. Dashing off to listen to "One" and already liking subject matter.

Can't help but snicker a bit about the similarities to birthing albums and birthing babies. We've all been pacing around in this little room for what seems like eons and now it's nearing the time of passing out the cigars and calling everyone w/the breaking news! Can't wait to hold the cute, shiny disc in my own hands soon. :o) CYBER PARTAYYY!!

SEPTEMBER????? That's one long anticipatory gestational period! Oh well... :o)

Yay! Great news! I have not have time to listen to the new song posted yet. Be back soon....

P.S. September does seem a long way away.

Good for you dude, congrats and all that! Can't wait to hear what you're bringing us but Sept.? Are you trying to kill me here? You know I have zero patience. Oh well for this I'll wait. Sigh.

Thrilled for you, sincerely thrilled! Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

And happy to hear from ya!

Chris-I am so EXCITED for you! This is such great news. I love "In the Weak" and "Only You Can Save" I can't wait to hear all the other songs. September does seem like a long time away-but you know how time flies.

I am so thankful for all my friends on the blog and am forever grateful that I got to meet you this past summer. I'll be thinking of you when I give thanks for all my blessings on Thanksgiving Day!

That's so great! It will be really hard to wait 'til Sept ! But I know you'll give us little tidbits to listen to to keep us going...
I love "One" ! But What happened to "I Am"? I used to go over to your myspace and listen to that one at least 8 or 10 times a pop when things got too loud at work for me to concentrate...that is one of my favorites...I wish I could've copied it...I miss it now. But I still like to go over there and listen to what you have up after I've played your cd's a couple of times anyway. Can't wait for that new one!!!!

Ok, so I realize 3 times in one day is too many times to post, but I got home from my home tour party and sat down to catch up on email, and started listening to the songs on the production page, concentrating on the ones on the album, and I have a feeling that I'm going to like this album more than "Running Back to You." And I find it hard to say, cause you know how much I love that. So, I really ought to be glad I have to September to save up my money for my next stash, but I'm really disappointed it won't be ready for the NLR show (cause I KNOW you'd sell a bunch!) Is an EP teaser possible? I guess I better put my "patience hat" back on. It's so great that the wheels are in motion. Busy day tomorrow. Night all!

Chris,
I am excited that you have finally gotten all the kinks out and are moving forth with the record deal. Sept does seem a long way away but I know it will be worth the wait.
Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving. Traveling to the frozen tundra of Oregon today. Not sure if this Florida girl is ready for snow!

Glad to hear that things are falling into place. "Broken/Beautiful" makes a good closer for the CD.

Chris,

Have you considered an interim EP release or two, with the lead off song as a preview for the album proper? September seems to be an extraordinary long time to maintain public interest momentum.

I listened to "One" and thought it was really cool. Like Robyn, I noticed that "I Am" is no longer up. I loved that song and was hoping it was going to be on your next CD-but I'm still excited anyway.

Carmen-don't freeze to death in Oregon!

Hmm I too am disappointed "I am" is not on here. I thought Chris has been talking about the possibility of that song being the first single? Also, is "I Can't Believe" not going to be on the CD either? Out of the demos i've heard, that was my favorite song.

robyn said...

Amy & Nicholas,

I KNOW! That is SUCH a great song! It made me cry each and every time I played it...I was really hoping it would be on the new cd Oh, well, maybe it will be slated for a single release. i certainly could imagine that one getting lots of airplay.
Anyway in the meantime, I'm enjoying what's up for us to preview...bidin' my time 'til Sept...hmm...hmm...hmm
btw Chris...will we be able to hear 'I Am' somewhere again? just asking....

Amy's Purple Poodles said...

Hey Chris-Is there any chance you can put "I Am" back up on your MySpace page? That would be so awesome!

Amy
P.S.-Hope everyone has a great day!

Wow...the response to the non-inclusion of I Am will give me pause. I'll definitely take that into consideration as it comes to the meetings where definite decisions are made. I mean...the problem is there's only room for so many ballad/singles. I think the message of "One" fits better with the rest of the record..and I think the music sounds very current and fresh...so it'll be a toss up...hmmm

As far as September. Believe me..I wish the album could come out sooner, but here's why it won't. We obviously can't get the record done now in time for a Spring release, which was the original goal as we started to sign with the new label. We probably will be aiming for being completed with the album by early February. That means the first single (probably ONly You Can Save) will go at the end of February/beginning of March.

One of the unfortunate things with the CCM market is that from end of May until end of August is a bit of a dead zone for record releases. With the release of a single, you want to give the single time to run up the charts so that it has reached its peak position by the time the album comes out. It takes between 4-7 months for a single to make its way up and down the chart. so, releasing the album in early May doesn't give the single time to do its work. So...the earliest we can go is late August and most probably will be early Sept. So yes that stinks, for sure. But there is a strategy.

However, to the question of music to tide people over. The plan right now (we'll have to see if the label follows through on what they've agreed to...lol you never know) is to release an EP 4 months before the record...if you preorder the record, you will receive the 5-6 song EP (plus the first single, which will be included on the EP as a bonus track) download immediately. For those who asked about Requiem some time ago...this MAY be the EP...we'll see...those decisions are upcoming.

So hopefully that answers some of the questions...

Chris,

Thanks for the explanation about timing etc. makes sense, hate how long everything seems to take but one of those things outta your control.
As for I AM, I agree with the consensus but that said, I love One and it IS fresh that is what I noticed 1st while listening. A little different sound, to me it shows how you are evolving, changing and what is influencing you now from those you are collaborating with.

You know how your die-hard fans are we think we have the right to tell you what to do, that isn't likely to change any time soon, LOL:) It comes with the territory!

Anyway, I'm ready to pre-order dude!

According to http://www.yes.com/#Chris_Sligh

Chris Sligh - Empty Me
Chart Position: 46

have no idea what that means in terms of Billboard or Cashbox

risalea said...

EP, like it...just trying to make sure you got something to sell in April! ; )

Wow, toughie on I Am if it has to be it or One. I really, really like One. Maybe put I Am on that EP!

You need us to make these decisions for you. Seriously, we work cheap, right girls? LOL

Amy's Purple Poodles said...

I like Risa's idea of putting "I Am" on an EP (hint hint). This would be cool since it is no longer up for us to listen to. Or maybe you could have it on your new CD as a bonus track. How cool would that be! Then you could have BOTH songs on the album-or are you only allowed to do 14?

Risa-I am seriously considering coming to your benefit concert. What is the weather there in April? Do you know how far you are from others who might consider coming. I know Apr. is a long way off, but I need to consider airfare and where I'm going to stay. Let me know what's going on.

I'm with you Risa & Amy...'I Am' on the EP sounds great. AND we get to have it earlier than Sept.!! Hey, I'll take it any way I can get it, I love that song! It should NOT fade away into oblivion, it's too good...

Cathy Storms said...

Amy~I'm planning on going. Hopefully DJ and Carmen will be there also. And hopefully Candy and her mom will make it again this year..Hope you can make it. Last year was a blast. It was really cold but it was in January. Didn't mind the cold at all. It was a nice change from the weather here in California. Plus hanging out with the girls and seeing a Chris concert was awesome...

Very exciting news!! Of course I'm thrilled that I'm Ready is finally making it onto an album - woo hoo! and I about fell off the couch when I read that you really really have a Rebecca St. James song on YOUR album and you may have her sing with you. OMG OMG OMG OMG. After Jennifer Knapp she's one of my very favorite female Christian artists. I'm just so so excited for you! Ah, brings back memories of doing human videos to "Go and Sin No More." Awesome song. Great times. I love how things come full circle.

BTW: My Collections Care and Management course (I'm in a Museum Studies grad program) is making us write these intense articles for Wikipedia. I've definitely gotten a better understanding of it and how the style/references/etc should be. LOTS of rules in Wiki-world. I know Chris' site has been attacked by mods like crazy and poor Rosalee has been holding down the fort, I think. I'm trying to fix it up as best I can so hopefully the whole "nominated for deletion" thing can be done for real. I'll do my best to apply what I've learned.

*PS: Add me to the list of "I Am" supporters! I also had the chance to experience it live and I have been looking forward to it making its way onto an album. Pretty please?
