My name is Chris Sligh. As an artist I'm award-winning, critically acclaimed & mildly-to-not popular; I wrote a number 1 song (Here Comes Goodbye) for Rascal Flatts. I'm married to Sarah and I'm deeply in love. Most importantly, I am a Christ-follower.

Yeah your first #1 but definitely not your last. There are going to be many more to follow that one. I am so very, very proud of you Chris.
I got share with you something that happened to me on Saturday. I was shopping for a new outfit for the Doves. I was just walking around when I heard this little girl of about 6 tell her Daddy that she was listening to Rascal Flatts. She had an mp3 with headphones in her ears. Then she promptly tells her Daddy very excitedly & very loudly that her favorite song "Here Comes Goodbye" is playing. She was so loud that just about everyone in the store could here her. I just had to smile. I told her that it was one of my favorite songs too. It seems her Mom had just purchased the new CD and the kid could not get enough of Rascal Flatts and your song.
Then I here the song on Sean Hannity's radio show later that day. It seems everyone is really falling in love with the song. Of course all of us blogger girls knew it was going to be a hit.
I'm sure everyone has done this. . . but I put the vote for Chris widget on my Facebook and I've heard from 2 people that voted who I'm sure wouldn't have otherwise.
So. . . just in case you haven't posted it. . . go ahead. . . it works!
Oh. . . and congratulations Chris on the single doing so well. . . that is huge!
Congrat's Chris. That is awesome and such a great birthday present.
Great story Carmen....
Go, Chris....it's your birthday!!
First of many. Congrats!
Congratulations, Chris!
A fitting birthday present!
Very exciting! I don't normally listen to country music, but I was in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg last week for spring break, so naturally I had country music on the radio. I heard "Here Comes Goodbye" a lot!
Sweet present, but (yawn) I'm not surprised one tiny bit:)
Congratulations! That is most excellent news. :)
Without getting too personal, how does that work for you? Do you make money on sales or play time, or what? Will you make money on that song if it is redone by someone in the future? Just wondering how it works...
That's fantastic! Congratulations!
Congrats Chris on the number one. I am sure its just the first of many to come. I had the pleasure of working with you and your band Satuday and Easter Sunday at Crossroads Church in Indiana. Thanks for letting us enjoy your gifts. Rick V.
halo.
It is Japanese.
It writes it though it doesn't understand English.
It is a big fan from an American idol.
Please do happily.
At the risk of being redundant, just want to let new posters know we are having a fan picnic with Chris on July 3rd! The website is www.fropatropicnic.webs.com, or you can click the link on his blog. Hope you'll join us!
OMG OMG OMG
Danny Gokey is singing Endless Love... And it's the first week WITHOUT GLASSES.
Remind you of anyone???
Chris did you advise him to do this? But you must have said "the judges hated my arrangement... so do it more like the original."
The irony is just too much to bear.
OK update now after Simon's comments... Simon said he was disappointed Danny DIDN'T change the arrangement.
Whereas when Chris did it, he totally did an awesome job of making Endless Love his own... and the judges bashed him for it!
Also, no mention from Simon that Sligh did the song. Boo on you Simon.
As if I didn't know before how flip floppy the judges are. I don't know why I'm acting surprised.
PS: Rascal Flatts is singing Here Comes Goodbye on Dancing with the Stars tonight.
My weekly Morning After Idol Thoughts are really Sligh-centric this week.
http://hstryqt.blogspot.com/
Ok I'm done for real now, sorry. Goodnight all :).
Congrats. I had no idea you wrote this song. Now I like it even more!
The judges are consistently inconsistent.
I think they would have had kinder things to say to Danny if the beginning had been as good as the end.
Kris A. was near perfect (well, he is from Arkansas-LOL) and to quote MJ...."what was Randy smoking?!"
Off to text some more (5706!!) and to finish my taxes. Blogger Girls, don't say a word. I live on the edge. : )
Welcome new bloggers!! And as Risa said we are having a picnic for Chris fans on July 3rd in Nashville. It's our 2nd annual. Check out the picnic website and please try to join us. Last year was such a blast...
Risa~you make me smile....
Happy birthday, Chris, and congratulations! May this be the first of many #1s.
I had to laugh at Simon's comments to Danny. I even agreed with him- this time. Enjoyed your rearrangement much more. Perhaps Simon unconsciously had it in mind, and has come to appreciate it!
risalea, I agree about Kris Allen- that was a wonderful performance and example of bringing something different to the competition. Thank goodness Kara made her point.
Risalea, Loved Kris tonight. Loved the movie "Once" and the song "Falling Slowly". That was the song that made me want to play guitar. I even got to see Glen and Marketa in concert here and he played that same old beat up Takamine guitar in person. I don't believe dialidol this week. I say Matt of Lil is going home. Not sure what to make of Adam this week but I was cracking up watching his "performance".
I, too was flabbergasted at Simon's reaction to Danny Gokey's interpretation of "Endless Love".
I wonder if Chris did give him advice not to change up such a "classic song" too much....
Phil Stacey blogs about it here:

Was the "no glasses" paying homage to Chris??? LOL
This was not the first song that Danny Gokey performed that Chris also performed...
I thought of you all last night while I was yelling at my television about Chris' far superior, totally changed up Endless Love for which he got thrown under the bus for!!!
Knew I would have to check in today to find some people that knew what I was talking about!
I'm also of the opinion that Kris was perfectly awesome last night.
Kris Allen stays, and Simon tells him he was "brilliant."
American Idol is coming back to NORTH Little Rock.
"Here Comes Goodbye" hits #1, ensuring well-deserved recognition (and a nice cha-ching!) for our friend, Chris.

OMG that is fabulous! I can't wait to meet you!
XAngel~WhooHoo!! your coming to the picnic. I also can't wait to meet you. We are going to have such a blast..
One week until the Doves, I repeat one week until the Doves! If you haven't already voted for Chris, well, um, HELLO!!!!!!!!! VOTE!!
Seriously excited about the Doves!! Not sure Nashville is ready for the Blogger Girls but the Blogger Girls are ready for Nashville!
Sending you love from an excited DJ in AL!
XANGEL-So glad to hear you are coming. We are going to have a great time! Amy's Purple Poodles is coming with her family. It's going to be such fun to meet more folks from the blog.
How cool is this? Congratulations on your #1 hit. Your future holds many more #1 hits to come.
Got my Rough Draft EP today....this is the band that Chris produced a few months back. Go to www.myspace.com/roughdraftco to hear their music and link to their store. They're running a special for 7.99 and free shipping. Can't beat that with a stick! Randy, looks like they are coming your way on the 24th.
Risa,
What'd you think of the EP?
Great songs, huh?
I thought the project ended up really really good!
Chris
I love it...I even ordered a few extra copies for some friends. (you know me, why buy 1 when you can buy 50! LOL--I'm teasing...I had more restraint than I did on "Running Back to You".) I've only had time to listen through the whole thing once, but there's not a song I don't like...at first listen, "Compassion (Change the World)" and "Here I Am" are favorites.
They are also the sweetest guys. Got to talk via email to Greg when they were looking for a gig in the area, and then have talked with their manager, Jeff, on Facebook. Just a fine group of gentlemen. And friendly folks that send out their stuff. I even had a smiley on my receipt in the package. : )
A great project, Chris. You should be proud of your part in it! (Chris does background vocals and some keyboards according to the notes, in addition to producing)
Thumbs up!
Got my copy of Rough Draft EP today. I have listen to it once through and really do like it. Nice job Chris!!
Yep, me too. Rough Draft arrived yesterday. Listened through a couple times now and gotta say, sounds top quality. Chris, you can be proud that your name is on this project. Looking forward to learning these songs. They seem like a great bunch of guys.
I got my copy of Rough Draft's EP.
Thanks to Risa...You really do rock girlfriend...
Great job Chris. You can be very proud....
Just saw Here Comes Goodbye on lettermen. Not normally a commenter on here but wanna say congratulations. This is pretty unreal for ya i bet. Tata!
xo
Got mine too, thanks Risa for keeping me in the know! Chris, one more project well done!
6 days and counting!
Belated Happy Birthday and congratulations on the success of the song, hopefully next time the label check will be Chris Sligh.
I realize on your personal New Year’s Day, one is inclined to have a Janus like moment and do a performance review, but your comparing apples to oranges because you are working on a different time line.
Lennon, McCartney and Stevie Wonder started performing professional at about 13 or 14, Bono was 16, Peter Noone was 16 when Herman’s Hermits had their first hits, etc., but by your account the circumstances of your life didn’t provide for such opportunities*. You did go to college and got more training for your chosen profession then they did, which many performers who started early later wish they did.
You, my self-actualizing friend, are in a good place.
* remember the wonderful BJU prohibitions
GDA,
Couldn't agree with you more. You said it "perfectly" dude. Now, are you going to come to the picnic this year??? All the blogger girls want to meet you.
Carmen
Please come to the picnic GDA. As Carmen said, us blogger girls would love to meet you in person.
It's going to be so much fun..
Don't forget everyone to vote for Chris for the Dove awards. Time is getting close so if you haven't already voted go do it now. Tell all your friend, family, co-workers anyone you can
vote...vote...vote..
I finally got a chance to listen to the Rough Draft EP. Very nice work, Chris. That must have been a fun project.
GDA -
You MUST come to the picnic!
Yep, even if we have to drive to New Jersey and hogtie you. : )
OK, this is totally random, but the video that Lennon took for us of Chris singing "Here Comes Goodbye" back in Jan. in NLR, has passed 20,000 views on youtube. Well, running slightly behind Susan Boyle (LOL), but exciting nonetheless!
And congrats to Clint Milburn, Chris's band member and road manager, and his wife, Courtney...they're the parents of a brand new baby girl.
Risa it's possible you have scared GDA to death with the work hogtie. It's ok GDA, she's totally kidding:) We are however not kidding when we say you MUST come to the picnic this year.
Welcome to the new youngest Chris Sligh fan!
Risa I thought I heard that Susan Boyle has had over 3 million hits? Hey not that I'm saying we can't catch up...LOL.
Happy Sunday Fro Pal and Blogger Gals and Dove Divas from DJ in AL
Correction...."word" hogtie, not "work" hogtie. But you knew that.
Congrat's to Clint and Courtney and welcome to the newest Sligh Fan...
Hey, never say never. Susan Boyle didn't wake up that morning of her audition knowing she was going to be a youtube sensation, either! : )
No, I totally meant hogtie, but forgot that may not translate to someone not from the South. In other words, GDA, we really, really want you to come. Won't be complete without you. So come on!
Congrats to Clint & Courtney on the birth of their new baby girl. Clint & Courtney will have to bring the baby to the picnic this year. You know all the blogger girls are going to want to see the newest & youngest member of the Fro Patro. Bet she is absolutely beautiful!
Risa,
Susan Boyle has had over 6 mil hits online, not YouTube hits but the net in general. Unbelievable.
I'm waiting to see if she goes for the makeover, personally I don't think she should change a thing.
Happy Monday on this fabulous Doves Week!
http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/tv/43268732.html?elr=KArks:DCiUHc3E7_V_nDaycUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUU
Just read the article about the Idol documentary to be aired on the Gospel channel. Very cool!
Thanks for the heads up Kara. . . that's cool!
I saw that on Google...I wonder if we'll get to see any of that documentary as part of the pre-show at the Doves.
And now totally random...
I thought I'd share our proud day yesterday with Bubba Sligh. : )
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=21308&id=1111018038&l=5e6b34fe82
Aw... how cute. At least Bubba Sligh didn't have a duck in his mouth!
And guys - don't worry about missing the GMC special. It will be rebroadcast on April 24th, 26th, 27th, 30th, May 2nd and May 3rd.
Wow, lots of opportunities to watch the special, NOT!!
My sorry cable company does not carry GMC and I would LOVE to have the Doves on DVD. If there is anyone who can make a copy for me, I would gladly pay handsomely for it. It's not enough to BE there. I have to be able to watch it at home too! LOL
I'm in the same boat, Clearsa!
Me also...My cable company doesn't carry it either..So if anyone gets a copy of it I also will pay for one.
OMG - I didn't realize that we're all in the same boat! I don't get GMC either...
Me too, that stinks!
A taste of what goes on during GMA Music Week and live backstage interviews the night of the Dove Awards can be had at hearitfirst.com.
Oh wow, none of you ladies have the gospel music channel? I do, but only on my downstairs tv, and my dvd recorder is hooked to my upstairs tv. I'll see if I can get my hubby to move it for me!
EmilyBoo~You rock..that would be awesome if you could get us copies.
You can make one and send it to one of us and we will make copies for the rest of the blogger girls...
Apparently my friends/family believe my Morning After Idol Thoughts (which are never in the morning anymore) deserve a wider audience. I'm posting them on my blog now. Thought I'd pass along the link here since we all like to compare to our favorite season (6, of course!)
www.hstryqt.blogspot.com
If you visit, click to follow me! I finally added that feature after having the blog for years.
re: not getting GMC. I don't get it either. I'm crashing my friend Kelley's house on Thursday and we're having a Dove Awards party.
Thanks Kelley!! :) *wave* (she's one of our new regular-posters here on the blog!)
Don't forget me! I would like a copy too :)
Hitting the road. Next stop: NashVegas!
Risa,
Ha! 7:11, what did I tell ya?
Leaving in about 2 hours, see ya there!

Have a safe trip girls..
Thanks Cathy! Believe me between Carmen and Risa there will 100's of pictures!
Hello Chris & All,
Belated but most sincere Happy Birthday wishes.
Early thirties are amazing years.
Old enough to have garnered some wisdom and young enough to utilize it !
Enjoy the Right Now.
Shalom
And speaking of someone else in her early 30's (or something like that), Happy, happy birthday, DJ!!!
Happy birthday DJ and HAPPY DOVES DAY Chris and everyone!
Good Morning all,
I am ready for the Doves tonight. I am leaving work a little early so that I can have everybody fed and calm before they start. I have the DVR set and will be recording. I will try to see if I can knock the dust off the VCR and possibly record. For those of you there and I am thinking of you and I know that it is going to be an amazing night. I hope you give us the full report and thoughts and prayers for Chris. I will be watching so ladies try to behave. Take care all.
Candy
P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY D.J.!!!!!
Happy Birthday DJ and happy Dove day..
Chris, wishing you luck (which you don't need) for tonight. Have fun..
Candy, please make me a copy of the Doves and I will pay you for it. Please.....
Happy Birthday, DJ!
Have fun tonight at the Doves!
To: DJ
From: GDA
Happy Birthday
&
may it from today forward be great.
I'd say more but I'm still working on the wording.
Anyway, may you and the lady with the lariat enjoy your evening.
DJ,
Sparkling Birthday Wishes !
Shalom
Happy birthday DJ!
Everyone who is going tonight, I wish you a fantastic time! I'll be watching from home... I don't know if hubby will be home in time to get the DVD recorder moved to the downstairs tv for me, but if not, I'll tape it.
So my sister and I might just drive down to Nashville (yes from Buffalo) for the picnic. Her boyfriend is stationed at Fort Campbell I think it is and it's in Kentucky, not too far from Nashville. My sister knows her way around there pretty well and when I asked her if she wanted to go to the picnic she seemed interested in going.
OH and I already said so on her facebook but HAPPY BDAY DJ! And whoever is going to the DOVES.. have a great time!
Chris - it'd be so cool if you Twittered during the Doves tonight!
And Risa or any of you ladies going, if you didn't Twitter before - you should start. It'd be great to hear from you LIVE while you watch :).
Just sayin'.
Less than 5 hours to go!
Carrie~That would be really good if you can make it to the picnic.
Thanks to my wonderful hubby, I am able to record the awards on DVD. We tried to catch the "From Idol to Inspiration" show too, but couldn't get the recorder up and running on time. I started recording at about 7:30 and caught about 7 minutes of Chris... that's probably most of his segment, right?
Got my autographed copy of Rough Draft today, produced by our guy Sligh. Will listen to it tomorrow on the way to work.
Just saw a commercial that the idol special will be re-airing tomorrow. I will try to get it on the disc in its entirety along with the awards, if I remember. (I've had a really busy week, I may just have to sleep all day tomorrow! Hehehe, yeah right, with a 4 year old around...)
Who wants to make copies of the DVD?
Just got back from my Dove viewing party at my friends house.
Brendan Heath won for Song of the Year and Tenth Avenue North won for Best New Artist.
:(
Tenth Avenue North walked by Chris and Sarah on their way to get their award and shook hands, etc so you got to see Chris being his sweet, gracious self. Sarah looked beautiful! Chris did great performing Empty Me - he was part of a medley for all of the Best New Artists.
In a commercial for the Idols to Inspiration show they show ROSALEE'S SLIGH PURSE! and in a blip showing Chris' interview CARMENS PAINTING is in the background. I recognized both immediately and was just thrilled to pieces and wanted to come here to report my findings.
Emily thank you for recording both shows - I would love a copy if that's ok. Will pay for shipping/other expenses. I'll email or facebook message you :).
I had another technical difficulty. Having not used the DVD recorder in about a year, I forgot that I needed to change the recording speed to make sure my whole show fits on the disc! So after watching the awards and noticing it had stopped recording early (who knows when...) I changed the speed and started recording again, but it was already about 10 minutes into the broadcast.
Still on a quest to get a good copy of both shows, I will try again at noon today, when they repeat the idol special, after which they will re-air the awards.
Any takers on making copies of the DVD for everyone?
A friend of mine who has press clearance and was covering the doves told me prayers are needed for the Crabb family. I can't find anything about it online, but apparently Aaron and Amanda Crabb's little girl fell from a second story window last night and was badly hurt. Has anyone else heard anything about this?
Emilyboo,
What you heard was correct. The entire audience was led in a special prayer for the family and their daughter at the Doves last night.
The award show was simply AMAZING!!! Chris did a fantastic job. Risa got has fantastic seats and we could see everyone and everything beautifully. Big thanks Risa!!
It was a great evening!! Can't wait to see a rebroadcast aired. Emily I would love to have a DVD if you are able to make one.
Carmen
Safe journey's home to all my Dove Diva's. Can't wait to hear all about it.
